I thought this started on 20th Sept. DH reckons he's seen a trailer saying it is tomorrow!

Does anyone know anything about this????

OP posts:
Snaf · 29/09/2008 11:17

Noooo, not Graham Norton, please! He doesn't have the old-fashioned warmth necessary for SCD - I love the 'Saturday Night at the London Palladium' aspect of Strictly and GN would just make it too knowing and ironic. How can you not love Bruce - for 'Jelly Wallace' if nothing else?

Cherie was fabulous, so elegant. Unfortunately James Jordan reminds me of xh somewhat... but am glad he has switched on the charm for this series.

FairLadyRantALot · 29/09/2008 11:19

I can't stand James Jordan, he grates on me more then even Brendon does, lol....

Marina · 29/09/2008 11:23

Duh, I didn't see either early evening show with Graham .
Bruce is far from perfect, especially lately (Jelly Wallace?), but his presence in the show is definitely anchoring a segment of the audience.
My dcs think he is daft and his jokes and mugging terrible, but are tickled by his ancientness and by the fact that when I was their age he and his toupee were also ratings toppers back then
Overall I think it's a good thing to see a presenter who has not been axed for the hideous crime of being over sixty. He sets a good example fitness wise (from the chin downwards, granted)
Tess is the really annoying one IMO
She makes Anthea look like Germaine Greer

Marina · 29/09/2008 11:24

snaf, did ex-h do that to his hair? Oh, I feel your pain
I love Graham Norton, don't get me wrong. Just not on SCD

Marina · 29/09/2008 11:25

And yes, he isn't warm enough
SCD needs more benignity than Graham can muster. His humour is too barbed.

I have a massive girl-crush on Ola. The utter contempt she clearly has for Andrew is hilarious. They won't last long, sadly, because she is amazing...

@ crispy hair. Xh's hair is not quite so leonine, thankfully.

FairLadyRantALot · 29/09/2008 11:32

Oh Strictly Fans, you might also enjoy the movie : Love N Dancing

Lots of good swing- dancing action! And pleassant enough storyline...

It's on Sky Premier at the moment....

bran · 29/09/2008 11:43

I think I might have a bit of a crush on Ola too Snaf, either that or I want to be her. Does anyone actually remember Andrew's dance? I watched it again because I couldn't remember if he was a reasonable dancer or not, and even the second time around I couldn't take my eyes off Ola and didn't notice or even care what Andrew was doing.

Just now I've watched it again, still no idea whether Andrew was even present.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2008 11:49

James's hair is definitely crispy and that's not good...
Am struck by how bland and plastic-y Andrew is and just cringe with em,barrassment when Gary speaks.

squeaver · 29/09/2008 11:52

Andrew Castle makes my teeth itch. You just know he's going to be almost shirtless by week 3.

Gary Rhodes has a serious case of self-delusion.

Felt so sorry for Anton last night. Why do they always give him the duffers?

FairLadyRantALot · 29/09/2008 11:56

Turnip...that catsuit on Ola was not a good look, was it?
I think Ola is possibly one of the most gorgeous creatures, a total stunner...but that catsuit was not good, lol

Seasider · 29/09/2008 12:19

strictly is so marvellous

bit why did the costume designers make Jesse look like the Honey Monster? And that hair of hers, looks like a syrup...

I think that Rachel is a bit too Daddy's Little Princess, maybe she will be trying to run a restaurant with raymond next year?!

Tom and Mark Foster and john S to continue please...

And as others have said loving the way that Ola cannot BEAR Castle's feebola attempts

brendan, get over yourself you look like a weasel

tortoiseshell · 29/09/2008 12:23

Jessie Wallace will never leave 'Jelly Wallace' behind her will she. Every time she puts on a bit of weight they will haul it out again - think Daily Mail - "now Jessie Wallace is a REAL Jelly Wallace" etc etc

I think Bruce is good in the programme actually. He is obviously a bit pissed off about Craig RH's comments about him being doddery....

Graham Norton was lovely in Strictly Dance Fever and all the ALW programmes, but don't think he would be right for this.

tortoiseshell · 29/09/2008 12:23

And Gary Rhodes is dreadful. Can't BEAR him.

TurkeyLurkey · 29/09/2008 12:34

Lisa Snowdons face pulling upon hearing the judges comments was really doing my head in. I find her really irritating.

I agree with the poster who couldn't find any of the men fanciable this year, thats so true. Its getting so bad I might have to start fancying the women

FairLadyRantALot · 29/09/2008 12:37

lol turkey....

hm...that Austin guy looks nice enough...if fancyable, not sure...haven't looked close enough yet....

TurkeyLurkey · 29/09/2008 12:39

Oh yes I forgot about him, he might have to do for my eye candy this year..

FairLadyRantALot · 29/09/2008 12:45

lol

then there is always the proffessional dancers....I quite like Ian...but I know he is gay...but I don't care...and Darren is nice....if only the proffessional dancers wouldn't pull stupid "dancer" faces , lol...I know it's part of the whole thing, but they freak me out, lol

DownyEmerald · 29/09/2008 13:10

I did so fancy Mark Foster. But he can't dance! So I can't enjoy watching him. Unless I just watch him from the neck up - but that's kind of missing the point.

He might get better I suppose.

As for the pros. Ian and Matthew I sppose. But not Matt's hair.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2008 13:12

seasider at Brendan looking like a weasel - you are right there !

thumbwitch · 29/09/2008 13:20

poor ol' Brucie - I don't mind him, even though he is a bit "stage-managed" now - perhaps Anton could take over so that he doesn't keep getting given the useless less talented dancers?

Tess is annoying sometimes but I think some of the dresses Costume make her wear are awful - so don't suit her.

And yes, why oh why is the results show so long now? DH was chewing his fingers off with boredom except for Jill's jive and the dance-off.

MaggsS · 29/09/2008 13:55

I also feel a bit sad for Brucie

His gags are just not funny anymore and he is so "staged" . It really is a shame but I think it's time he moved over for a younger model.

Anton would be good. It's such a shame he always get's the duff ones.

My DS and DD cried there eyes out when he got booted off. There's just something likable about him.

So who should replace Brucie???

What about Tess's hubby Vernon Kay?

Turniphead1 · 29/09/2008 14:15

Maggs genius idea - Vernon would be great!! Don't like Tess, but love him.

MN Campaign - "If and When Brucie steps down - Vernon for Strictly"

Snaf - my sis described James's hair as "leonine" on saturday, too.

Can I just say how thoughtful it was of the BBC to put Strictly on to cover EXACTLY my third trimester (it may be all that gets me through). (They kindly gave me The Apprentice that covered my first exactly too). Doubtless you can all wait with bated breath to see if my baby arrives exactly one minute after the final!

docket · 29/09/2008 14:20

"Andrew Castle makes my teeth itch"!! I love that. He was about to win my award for the most smug, self-satisfied and inexplicably irritating man on TV. Then Gary Rhodes came along...
