A prison anthology drama featuring returning star Siobhan Finneran alongside David Tennant (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a69497076/time-bbc-season-3-cast/) has just confirmed a release date for its hotly-anticipated third instalment.

Premiered in 2021 on BBC One, Time (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=tiCD3T)follows the lives of inmates and staff in UK prisons.

Anticipated by some first-look images (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a72494981/bbc-time-season-3-first-look-david-tennant/), season 3 takes place in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI) where prison chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell (Finneran) clashes with custodial manager Bobby Bailey (Tennant) over a "tragedy".

Created by Jimmy McGovern (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr4ZE9), Time (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=tiCD3T)season 3 also stars Little Disasters' Jo Joyner (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J4H) as Nicola, The Bay's Daniel Ryan (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J9i) as custodial manager Freddie Jennings, Vinette Robinson (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr5d2J) as Erica, Louis McCartney (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=prVjcq) as James, Ollie McNulty as Peter and Chukwubuikem Molokwu as Christopher.

Prison Chaplain Marie-Louise comes to the YOI having lost her faith," the synopsis reads.

"When tragedy strikes in the prison, Marie-Louise clashes with veteran officer Bailey, a man in the midst of his own crisis.

Bailey knows more about the circumstances that led to this major incident – but will he come clean before the guilt gets too much?"

I have made a decision not to watch it.
I found the previous season harrowing and with the way the world is at the moment I don’t want to be saddened and depressed further.
I’m out.
I don’t like stuff like Love Hate, This City is Ours, Kin, Peaky Blinders etc.
I would love a utopia where there aren’t drug cartels, violent crime, war, inequality etc.
That’s probably why I like escapism programmes like LocationX3, Bake Off, A Place in the Sun, Sewing Bee, Room to Improve, George Clarke house stuff, Grand Designs, Super Garden etc.
It doesn’t explain why I like detective programmes though. 😀

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2026 12:04

That’s fair enough - everyone has different tastes

I do seem to live gangster stuff - this city is ours - kin - gangs of London - fightland etc

As clashes with the party I will watch at 10

I’m watching, not exactly an uplifting Sunday night watch so far 😂

Shadesofscarlett · 11/10/2026 21:59

blimey that was a hard watch - brilliant though

macaroon8 · 11/10/2026 22:01

Well that was horrific.

Piggywaspushed · 11/10/2026 22:02

Wow, bleak. Poor boy. We were never told his crime, were we?

It's terrifying that a YOI would be tougher than an adult prison but I suppose it makes sense.

Fortyfirstelephant · 11/10/2026 22:03

Still reeling

HoldMyWine · 11/10/2026 22:09

That was dreadful. What does it mean in the OP that Bailey knew more about the incident than he is letting on?

Is it that he tried to talk Jennings out of the reconciliation meeting?

Piggywaspushed · 11/10/2026 22:26

He wanted to be present as well and was told no.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/10/2026 22:30

That was grim but thought the young actors were brilliant. Why did the prison officer want to put those two lads together?! Was it a bribe? Wondering if I missed something.

Fortyfirstelephant · 11/10/2026 22:33

Agree, great acting, took me a few minutes to process that it was fiction at the end!

It was because Ushindi had to have closed visits due to not being able to be with Patsy and he wanted to try and reconcile so he’d get an open visit so could hug his mum

Why Patsy didn’t get the closed visits I’m not sure

Ushindi wanted a reconciliation meeting because they were under a non association order and couldn't be in the same room together. This prevented him from being in the visiting room with his Mum as Flynn was always there. No idea why it wasn't Flynn that was restricted as he was the violent one.
Also not sure why they were under a non association order as Ushindi said they'd never met and he didn't know why but then I think Flynn said he did know why?

Utterly brilliant acting. I was tense the whole way through. I normally binge watch but don't have the stamina for it on this one.

HoldMyWine · 11/10/2026 22:47

Yes surely Flynn should have been on closed visits. I’m thinking the theme was love and rejection

JanuaryLove · 11/10/2026 23:03

Wow so stressful to watch! Definitely more to come with Bobby. My guess he bumps his wife off. Or! Something happens with the mother of the prisoner that knows him. (The wife of the bloke his wife is shagging)

I hope we get a backstory of him and his wife. Clearly end of the road for their marriage before we even met them.

Siobhan is great as always!

I don't reckon that young prisoner killed his brother either

Mistachio · 12/10/2026 00:06

Omg. I’ve binged. I won’t spoil but I am blown away by the acting particularly the young offenders. Staggering.

Floppyearedlab · 12/10/2026 00:13

Something tells me James didn’t kill his brother and he is covering for someone.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 03:44

Wow. That was intense and tho ‘knew’ there would be a death - I wasn’t sure of who and how

patsy is a terror and sadly there are teens like that about

I don’t know why he couldn’t have the closed visit as he seems he is the problem

the second search by Daniel Ryan was a pathetic pat down but if Bobby had already searched him he didn’t do a good job missing the weapon

I also think having a female Chaplin with Young males is asking for trouble

not sure why house wouldn’t be 50:50 and why wife thinks she should get £150k and Bobby £100k

from what JJ said sounds like she was the mistress and shagging in cars before they got together

good to see Warren brown again

a very well known cast / tbh most acted must know if given a Jimmy McGovern's script it’s gonna be a good drama

Caramac045 · 12/10/2026 07:29

I think Patsy was probably a violent racist which is why he couldn’t be with Ushindi. I agree with others in not understanding why Patsy didn’t have closed visits.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 07:40

Yes sounds like the non association order is due to racist

OP posts:
HoldMyWine · 12/10/2026 07:42

I was thinking each episode is a different story, and that was the end. I see now the story continues over another 2 episodes. I thought there were a few loose ends.
