A prison anthology drama featuring returning star Siobhan Finneran alongside David Tennant (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a69497076/time-bbc-season-3-cast/) has just confirmed a release date for its hotly-anticipated third instalment.

Premiered in 2021 on BBC One, Time (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=tiCD3T)follows the lives of inmates and staff in UK prisons.

Anticipated by some first-look images (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a72494981/bbc-time-season-3-first-look-david-tennant/), season 3 takes place in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI) where prison chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell (Finneran) clashes with custodial manager Bobby Bailey (Tennant) over a "tragedy".

Created by Jimmy McGovern (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr4ZE9), Time (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=tiCD3T)season 3 also stars Little Disasters' Jo Joyner (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J4H) as Nicola, The Bay's Daniel Ryan (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J9i) as custodial manager Freddie Jennings, Vinette Robinson (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr5d2J) as Erica, Louis McCartney (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=prVjcq) as James, Ollie McNulty as Peter and Chukwubuikem Molokwu as Christopher.

Prison Chaplain Marie-Louise comes to the YOI having lost her faith," the synopsis reads.

"When tragedy strikes in the prison, Marie-Louise clashes with veteran officer Bailey, a man in the midst of his own crisis.

Bailey knows more about the circumstances that led to this major incident – but will he come clean before the guilt gets too much?"

So have episodes 1 and 2 both aired on TV then? Another shock ending for episode 2, although thankfully not as bad as the end of episode 1!

HoldMyWine · 12/10/2026 22:03

Yes another great episode, so much happens as each persons story unfolds. I couldn’t watch more than one episode at a time, my stomach is in knots.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 22:08

I don't know what the solution is.

For young offenders - makes you wonder what they did to go in there and was good to hear some stories

Tho the Chinese boy/chris's friend - kinda protecting his dads business and now 18yrs as stabbed a fleeing non paying customer and he died

Guess once 18 they go to a proper prison

Locking them up most of the time and playing pool /in the gym making their selves stronger isn't always a good idea

Would locked away 23hrs a day be better. I don't know

How can they be allowed to roam into each others rooms and basically beat the crap out of someone

The short one who said to his friend that he had to choose someone thinks he's king

Another killer ending 🙀😢

I feel for Bobby. He's trying to do the right thing. Fred is a bully and doesn't care

Maybe as an officer they have to act and be tough or the job will break them

But playing golf after a kid has died meaning low staffed is wrong

Knowing they would all be shut in esp after the weekend and missing his dads funeral and guess gf and baby didn't take her dads warning if travelled up again

Jayden 😢😢😢

Again powerful drama and makes you think

Gosh, this series is especially depressing. It takes me back to when I was working. I worked with young families. I used to visit a family where the late teen boy knifed his cousin to death. A young woman I worked with visited the father of her baby in a young offender’s institution. During the visit he suddenly lunged at her and bit her hard on her face. I could go on.

I don’t know if I want to carry on watching to be honest.

Gloriia · 13/10/2026 07:33

Surely for Chris's first meeting with his birth mother they'd have had at least an interpreter present and it would have been hosted in a suitable room probably with some wellbeing person present.

Ditto the reconciliation thing, they wouldn't have just had a gormless prison guard they'd be other people present to ensure specific critieria were met and not where all the other inmates could bang on windows.

I do not know anyone who has had a fling who then goes to meet the wife/dh of their fling partner in the pub to discuss house selling.

I get that McGovern does grim depressing stuff but make it all plausible please.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/10/2026 10:09

I think he wanted to see JJ and due to being aunty to an innate , feel have some mind of connection

or both lick their wounds

Totally agree with this! I too didn't understand how all those boys were able to rush the windows when surely they would have been kept inside their cells? What a stupidly exposed room in the first place ffs!

Me too. The filming for the 'incident' during episode 3 was so unreal, I had to rewind it as I couldn't believe my eyes 😳

Prods. Remember we all haven’t seen e3

Time is always grim and worse the stories we watch are ‘based’ on real life

things like this happen

stabbings. Kickings

I still don’t get how Bobby didn’t find the knife

if he searched properly - esp as he knew trouble would happen if he warned against the meeting

Short of a full blown naked cavity search the weapon can be easily concealed, they aren't permitted to pat down the genitals.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 14/10/2026 09:22

Yeah I’ve got to the end, thought it was really well done.

The young actors are so good.

retiringtoCelesteville · 14/10/2026 10:57

The actor affecting a stammer was wonderful.
He said it was exhausting to do.

ProfessorofDarkArts · 14/10/2026 21:52

Wow each season of this just gets better, such a difficult watch but so, so well done. A few bits felt slightly far fetched especially what happens in E3 but generally just fantastic and such good acting.

@Paul2023 really interested to hear which bits weren’t true to life.

BleeBlahBlue · 15/10/2026 17:40

This was just fantastically written and acted all round.

Brilliant series, harrowing, but brilliant

I gasped out loud

no spoilers but my god what an incredible programme. I felt like standing up in my front room and applauding at the end.

WhatDoRacoonsSay · 16/10/2026 17:35

I'd not seen any of it so I watched all nine episodes back to back on Wednesday, absolutely loved it, best thing I've seen in ages, though I felt like a rung out dishrag by the end!

Not really. None of it is happy imho.

There’s happy endings for several characters. It all ties up well.
