A prison anthology drama featuring returning star Siobhan Finneran alongside David Tennant (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a69497076/time-bbc-season-3-cast/) has just confirmed a release date for its hotly-anticipated third instalment.

Premiered in 2021 on BBC One, Time (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=tiCD3T)follows the lives of inmates and staff in UK prisons.

Anticipated by some first-look images (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a72494981/bbc-time-season-3-first-look-david-tennant/), season 3 takes place in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI) where prison chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell (Finneran) clashes with custodial manager Bobby Bailey (Tennant) over a "tragedy".

Created by Jimmy McGovern (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr4ZE9), Time (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=tiCD3T)season 3 also stars Little Disasters' Jo Joyner (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J4H) as Nicola, The Bay's Daniel Ryan (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J9i) as custodial manager Freddie Jennings, Vinette Robinson (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr5d2J) as Erica, Louis McCartney (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=prVjcq) as James, Ollie McNulty as Peter and Chukwubuikem Molokwu as Christopher.

Prison Chaplain Marie-Louise comes to the YOI having lost her faith," the synopsis reads.

"When tragedy strikes in the prison, Marie-Louise clashes with veteran officer Bailey, a man in the midst of his own crisis.

Bailey knows more about the circumstances that led to this major incident – but will he come clean before the guilt gets too much?"

It makes no sense that Nicola would end up as far away as in the road if it was her who pushed him. Surely it would have had to be him pushing her for it to have enough force to go that distance?

Just another far fetched scene that was needed (wanted) for plot reasons I suppose. But agree it was rather unnecessary.

Watch it back. She shoves him playfully and then stumbles a bit and steps back.

I’m sorry there won’t be any more but I think it’s the right decision. This one was brilliant but a couple of things were slightly far fetched/hard to believe. Better to leave it while they’re on top.

Does anyone know where the cafe and beach in the final scene are in real life?

I’ve just binged all three series. I knew it would be a hard watch, but so worth it. If even half of it is an accurate representation, the system as it is is dire. How can we ever expect to rehabilitate these people? Many of them probably shouldn‘t even be in prison.

I used to work in a Cat C men's prison. Aside from the few things already mentioned - it's so accurate. It was excellent and very true to life in terms of prison life. All men in prison have to have a 'front' for their own survival... I think Peter's story really depicted that.

The gym is sacred to so many of them - it's all about being as buff and fit as possible. It's also a show of machismo.

The only tiny things I noticed were none of them were walking around with their hands down the front of their joggers - which is constant! And that visitor hall would look one hell of a lot messier after visiting... they all use it as a time to eat stuff their visitor buys for them and the litter is everywhere afterwards! But these are just tiny things. I really hope this is up for some BAFTA's

we are watching series 2 but series 3 was excellent and already this is less engrossing

spiderlight · 19/10/2026 14:24

My God, that was intense! I've binged it all this week and finished last night - it was bleak at times (!) but absolutely brilliantly done. Nicky's incident in the last one made me shout so loud I scared the dog. It's a shame there won't be any more because al three series have been incredible and I think this one was the best. Those young lads were all outstanding, especially the ones playing Ushindi, Jayden and Peter.

HoldMyWine · 19/10/2026 17:26

Yes all of the young actors were so convincing. Well done to them.

Series 3 was filmed in NI so that is probably the Antrim Coast or it could be Bangor.

@Piggywaspushed thank you, found it.

I assumed they'd changed the name for the TV, but they hadn't.

Nice bit of publicity for them! I did say to DH , 'well that's obviously not the Liverpool coast'!

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2026 18:37

The BBC does like that location. They used the lough for that Jimmy Nesbitt thing too.

MrsClattenburg · 20/10/2026 22:30

That was fantastic 👏👏👏👏

Series 1 (Male prison) was great
Series 2 (Female prison) was OK
Series 3 (YOI) bloody brilliant

You can see why Jimmy McGovern wants to finish it there.
