A prison anthology drama featuring returning star Siobhan Finneran alongside David Tennant (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a69497076/time-bbc-season-3-cast/) has just confirmed a release date for its hotly-anticipated third instalment.

Anticipated by some first-look images (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a72494981/bbc-time-season-3-first-look-david-tennant/), season 3 takes place in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI) where prison chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell (Finneran) clashes with custodial manager Bobby Bailey (Tennant) over a "tragedy".

Created by Jimmy McGovern (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr4ZE9), Time (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=tiCD3T)season 3 also stars Little Disasters' Jo Joyner (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J4H) as Nicola, The Bay's Daniel Ryan (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J9i) as custodial manager Freddie Jennings, Vinette Robinson (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr5d2J) as Erica, Louis McCartney (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=prVjcq) as James, Ollie McNulty as Peter and Chukwubuikem Molokwu as Christopher.

Prison Chaplain Marie-Louise comes to the YOI having lost her faith," the synopsis reads.

"When tragedy strikes in the prison, Marie-Louise clashes with veteran officer Bailey, a man in the midst of his own crisis.

Bailey knows more about the circumstances that led to this major incident – but will he come clean before the guilt gets too much?"

No endings have been mentioned!!

You don’t need to be quite so rude.

All stories with multiple characters have happy endings for some and not for others.

Yes, indeed. Thanks for that , Jimmy.

HoldMyWine · 18/10/2026 21:49

not sure I can take much more

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2026 22:02

Wow. Emotional.

A few stories on the go

Nicola - if he hadn't of nudged her after the crap joke - she wouldn't be dead - to have to live with that

Erica couldn't wait to move in now Nicola was dead - Warren brown had a very small part considering he is well known

Glad Bobby spoke up in court and means the prison will possibly close and guv and Jennings hopefully lose their jobs - hopefully he will keep his or go to another prison

Still don't understand why Ushindo had to meet his mum in a small room and why patsy couldn't have seen his visitor there instead

Glad his mum cuddles his friend and forgive him

I didn't reliese Peter and short boy Toby were cousins

At the end I almost thought that Peter was going to be run over or shot at - I thought they had to escape /run away to be safe as he told the truth but meant he grassed his family up

So he had no parents and lived with Toby's parents his aunt and uncle

Hopefully he will make a better life for his self being given that second chance

Wasn't sure if James had life for killing his brother. I felt for his mum esp at the funeral

Marie-Louise got her happy ever after to working and living with Michael in Toxteth, running a safe house for asylum seekers.

It was a hopeful way to end a devastatingly hopeless series.

Wonder if will have a s4

Nicola shoved him, though. It wasn't framed as something Bobby brought about , even if accidentally.
Poor Bobby.
Jimmy McGovern has said no more...I can't see where he could take it really.

HoldMyWine · 18/10/2026 22:07

I’m not sure it was necessary for poor Nicola to be bumped off like that but I guess it spurred Bailey onto telling the whole truth as he had nothing left.
I was nervous that something was going to happen to Peter and the baby. I am done.

Yes I know want shown as his fault but that was that first thing that went through my mind

I had to rewind quickly as thought OMFG. What has just happened

Me too! It was all so sudden and unexpected. The bloody car didn't even stop after hitting her. It just whooshed on by in an empty street. I thought it might have been a hit and she was deliberately targeted, but by whom?

Meredusoleil · 18/10/2026 22:38

I was also nervous for Peter walking away with GF and baby Peter on that open road as if he had not a care in the world. I actually thought a car might come along and do a drive by shooting in retaliation for him grassing up his cousin Toby!

It makes no sense that Nicola would end up as far away as in the road if it was her who pushed him. Surely it would have had to be him pushing her for it to have enough force to go that distance?

Just another far fetched scene that was needed (wanted) for plot reasons I suppose. But agree it was rather unnecessary.

Yes I was holding my breath thinking the same thing

Meredusoleil · 18/10/2026 22:43

Also, was it just me or did anyone else really dislike Erica? She seemed so antipathetic to me.

PrincessScarlett · 18/10/2026 22:57

That was shocking having Nicola killed. I also gasped out loud.

Glad Bobby told the truth. Jennings and the Governor were despicable.

I smiled with tears in my eyes when Peter gave Marie-Louise the nutty chocolate.

I felt for James and was convinced that maybe he didn't kill his brother and it was his dad. There was a lot of shifty looks between James and his dad in episode 2.

Seems we all thought that

so he’s the only one with a happy ending really

and marie Louise

Erica was absolutely awful. Absolutely no need for that note she left Bobby.

I swore very loudly when Nicola got hit by the car! Poor Jayden.

All the young actors were excellent.

Feel so sorry for James’ mum. Lost both her sons and her husband. Thought the line from the priest at the graveside was so unnecessary though.

Ushindi and his mum was so sad 💔

And little Peter was adorable.

Fortuity · 18/10/2026 23:44

I wondered if this could come back with Bobby having been promoted and running a prison, but it sounds as If Jimmy McGovern doesn't want to. Pity.
