A prison anthology drama featuring returning star Siobhan Finneran alongside David Tennant (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a69497076/time-bbc-season-3-cast/) has just confirmed a release date for its hotly-anticipated third instalment.

Premiered in 2021 on BBC One, Time (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=tiCD3T)follows the lives of inmates and staff in UK prisons.

Anticipated by some first-look images (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a72494981/bbc-time-season-3-first-look-david-tennant/), season 3 takes place in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI) where prison chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell (Finneran) clashes with custodial manager Bobby Bailey (Tennant) over a "tragedy".

Created by Jimmy McGovern (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr4ZE9), Time (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=tiCD3T)season 3 also stars Little Disasters' Jo Joyner (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J4H) as Nicola, The Bay's Daniel Ryan (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr8J9i) as custodial manager Freddie Jennings, Vinette Robinson (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr5d2J) as Erica, Louis McCartney (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=prVjcq) as James, Ollie McNulty as Peter and Chukwubuikem Molokwu as Christopher.

Prison Chaplain Marie-Louise comes to the YOI having lost her faith," the synopsis reads.

"When tragedy strikes in the prison, Marie-Louise clashes with veteran officer Bailey, a man in the midst of his own crisis.

Bailey knows more about the circumstances that led to this major incident – but will he come clean before the guilt gets too much?"

The actor playing Ushindi was superb. I wonder if he has a stammer in real life?

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 07:49

Yes 3 parts @HoldMyWine

No. You don’t need to see S2 to watch S3 (though recommend you do as it is great) because they are separate story lines.
I binged S3 🙈 and thought it was fantastic - especially the teen actors. Brilliant.

Wow incredible he was so convincing

He deserves a BAFTA for this performance. The guy playing the thickset ginger thug was good too . He personified evil .

CollaterlieSistersSister · 12/10/2026 12:16

Oof. That's was a difficult watch.

Absolutely brilliant though, from every single person on screen (and behind the scenes, no doubt).

But. Bloody hell. Grim.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 14:29

Time is always grim and worse the stories we watch are ‘based’ on real life

things like this happen

stabbings. Kickings

I still don’t get how Bobby didn’t find the knife

if he searched properly - esp as he knew trouble would happen if he warned against the meeting

I decided to watch s3 today.
Somehow I ended up watching Stepen Graham and the professional Yorkshire man whose name I forget. Accidentally binged all 3 episodes

Series 2 is really different and moving in different ways. I feel you build more empathy for the prisoners in 2.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 07:40

Yes sounds like the non association order is due to racist

I'm sure there was line at the beginning that suggested they were in rival gangs.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/10/2026 17:01

I feel like the ginger one lied about knowing Ushindi just to murder him but not sure why the prison guard (Bobby?) went along with it 🤔

I think Bobby lied about having a son with a stammer as well. Makes me think he knew what was going to happen…

Poor Ushindi 😭

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/10/2026 17:13

no other other prison officer had a son with a stammer surely?

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 17:50

Yes Daniel ryan said his son

not sure if Bobby and wife have kids - seems not when splitting the house

OP posts:
leavesinthebreeze · 12/10/2026 19:20

I think the prison officer genuinely did have a son with a stammer and there clearly was a back story about thoroughly patting prisoners down given Bobby got reprimanded for doing it alone previously so think they were possibly nervous maybe to be thorough around the groin area (where the knife was)

Paul2023 · 12/10/2026 19:27

I’ve worked in prisons and of course I could nit pick some of what happened and say that wouldn’t happen in reality. And there were a few bits.

However it’s a strong cast and I enjoyed it. Jimmy McGovern is the writer I think , he’s done some good things over the years.

Its gritty and shows how violence and ganache arena massive part of male prisons , particularly young offender prisons.

High turn over of staff, staff sickness, mental
health, staff who turn to drink to cope.

Its very real

Which parts are realistic and which aren’t?

lazymum99 · 12/10/2026 20:29

Just finished the first episode. It was brilliant but grim and hard to watch. I would usually go straight to the next episode but I need a break. Both acting and writing superb

Meredusoleil · 12/10/2026 20:40

Am on the 2nd episode as couldn't just leave poor Ushindi's totally preventable death as the last thing I saw. I was actually swearing at the screen in shock tbh 🤬

Meredusoleil · 12/10/2026 21:00

Bobby's wife is being very unreasonable about the house imho. She's the one that is having the affair and wants to leave!

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 21:13

Yes should be 50/50
