Thought do a new thread for the new series and 40yrs of Casualty on bbc

Saturday BBC One's TV schedule now officially includes the double episode, with the two parts set to air back to back on Saturday 5 September at 8pm and 8.50pm.

The 40th anniversary will have a "huge firebomb" leaving several characters' fates hanging in the balance ……..

who do we want to die - I don’t want Dylan. Stevie or Flynn to die

not too bothered about anyone else

I only started letting my daughter watch Casualty a couple of months ago (she's almost 13 now)

Tonight's was by far the most adult thing she's ever watched!

It was quite graphic at points

As its 40 I must have 12 when it launched and I have watched it on and off since day one (mostly on). Sometimes I've watched religiously, sometimes I've dipped in and out, sometimes I've missed odd weeks and sometimes I've gone a month or two without seeing an episode but it has always been something I've come back to even when it (or HC) have been ludicrous.

I worked out I must have started watching it at 12 too! But I must be a bit younger than you.
The only time I would have missed any episodes would have been when I was doing my year abroad at uni and then I did 9 months abroad after uni as well. Apart from that I would have watched every episode since I was 12

Wow well done you, I missed a lot as a student as I didn't have a video and was often out on a Saturday night, a chunk when overseas and a few periods when the kids were very young or at the point of being up and around when it was on but too young to watch.

hoarahloux · 05/09/2026 23:26

Will Beck really carried these episodes, he's an amazing actor and Dylan was heartbreaking.

I was so happy to see Rash finally finding his confidence! It's about time! He led the department! I really hope he's going to continue in that vein and maybe struggle with the other consultants - we do have a lot of them about now.

It'd be nice to see Ethan back in a non-clinical role - clearly his Huntingtons has started to show symptoms now and he has a hard time even doing simple injections. How old is his son now?

The leg was a bit gory even for me. Had to look away.

It may have had quite a few medical/drama cliches going on but I bloody loved those episodes overall.

Hopefully since they’re making us wait until next year that means there’s some good time to get back to some of the good old style storylines. They did word it like things may be changing again so maybe no more of the 12 episode story arcs?

Erm the people who said about Charlie coming back were right...!!

Yay! I could almost hear the cheer going up throughout the country.

Surely Stevie would be brain dead the amount of time she wasn’t breathing before indie found her her and apparently got a pulse

They sort of explained that when she was telling Flynn that he had to take the oxygen and pull her out - she said that she would be hypothermic and therefore more likely to to revivable, like those children who have survived after a very long time in icy water. Unfortunately the fact that we've just had the hottest summer ever slightly buggered up that explanation, but let's not be picky about it.

spiderlight · 06/09/2026 09:03

Dylan carrying the bag out was such a Dylan thing to do! I've just binged the new series of Trigger Point, so I was 100% braced for an explosion, but also half-expecting Vicky McClure to run in and deal with it.

I think Flynn would make a brilliant James Bond. Last night's final episode was his audition piece.

It was good to see past references. Was hoping there would be a remembrance to Brenda Fricker, who died this year. She played Nurse Megan Roach.

Livingthebestlife · 06/09/2026 11:48

God it was so good, getting brilliant compliments online everywhere, they all must be so proud.

I ruined it for myself watching the behind the scenes first on YouTube, when they were in the water I couldn't get out of my head that they were in pinewood studios and the pool was heated. Although still all excellent.

I only realised much later the balloons for Flynn 40th birthday and the few references to his 40th being a nod to the anniversary.

They were all just so fantastic, the 2 episodes flew in and just so gripping.

Flynn is 😍😍

In relation to the weather, at the beginning when they were all stood outside watching the ash come down, Dylan said something along the lines, it's not snow get inside. I thought that then implied it was Winter and then allows for the next episodes to be in the right season, although Stevie is going to take some recovery so I hope they don't imply it's the next day.

Flynn is handsome and Jodie is beautiful. They are a couple in real life. If they have children they will be absolutely gorgeous.

Are they ? I didn’t know that

I missed that there were two episodes! I’m watching the gp and then will watch part 2. I’ve been so confused by some of the comments about things happening.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 06/09/2026 14:48

Ive just watched it!!

Completely random comment….

But was it just me who felt there was a lot of close-up focus on the staff passing each bottles of water to drink and telling each other to drink? 🤣

It was almost like the company who produced the water were sponsoring the episodes 🤣

But aside from that - I loved the episodes ❤️❤️

Definitely, Dylan was handed a bottle of water about 4 times and didn't drink a sip!

I was kinda hoping that Ethan would treat Stevie and she wouldn't make it 😉 (I will never forget or forgive that she joined Holby ED because she was planning to kill Ethan).

Sorry WHAT?! That must have happened during a watching hiatus. Please expand!

purpleme12 · 06/09/2026 16:05

It was how she joined Casualty

Ah, sorry, you already have. Ignore me. I was so shook I didn't even check down the thread, which I always do in case it's a "cancel the cheque!" situation.

OldSchoolCasualty · 06/09/2026 16:06

I kicked everyone out of the living room so I could watch uninterrupted!
Best 2 hours of telly I've seen in a long time.
I was heard going 'oh no Sophia' from the other side of the house apparently
Dylan shutting himself in the cupboard!
And that poor mother looking for her son and seeing his name on the wall and assuming her was alive.
What a wild ride!

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 06/09/2026 16:14

Yes Dylan was constantly being given a bottle of water ! never saw him even having a sip.
Was it the same bottle ?

Planning to kill him might have been a bit of an over statement- she was planning to end his career and one of the ways she thought about doing was by killing him but most of the time she just wanted him struck off. The accident her sister had was precipitated by her discovering Stevie had shagged her husband /boyfriend (I can't remember which) so Stevie was deflecting her guilt onto Ethan who did cock up the treatment and leave her sister brain dead. It was all very Holby.

Surely Stevie would be brain dead the amount of time she wasn’t breathing before indie found her her and apparently got a pulse

How handy they managed to drive right to the part of the shore to help

Seems the whole of the staff were outside waiting for the Stevie and Flynn - and then all working on them both while countless patients still needed them inside

Dylan to the rescue after Charlie rescued him

Ethan was an out patient so yes def has the shakes and why he didn’t want to do the removal

guess he will return. Always good to have a regular pay packet

Indie didn’t know who Charlie was 🙀🙀😂😂

And auntie and mum made food to feed them all

Flynn is still devastatingly handsome

All ended well

Just to say, not all Huntington's sufferers have movements (chorea) and if they do, it is definitely not 'shakes', more so repetitive, involuntary movements.
Also, Huntington's clinics can be few and far between and the vast majority of sufferers who may be in early or mid stages, may only get a appointment once a year or even less...making it even more unlikely that Ethan was coincidentally at Out patients!

purpleme12 · 06/09/2026 17:57

But Ethan wasn't at outpatients for his Huntington's.

He was there for the cut on his face that he had stitches on

I assumed he got the cut in the explosion with the outpatients appointment being for an unspecified reason (presumably Huntingtons related).
