Thought do a new thread for the new series and 40yrs of Casualty on bbc

Saturday BBC One's TV schedule now officially includes the double episode, with the two parts set to air back to back on Saturday 5 September at 8pm and 8.50pm.

The 40th anniversary will have a "huge firebomb" leaving several characters' fates hanging in the balance ……..

Charlie and Ethan appearing to save the day (or not) seems quite Shakespearean.

She was known in these parts as purple nurse.

I didn't think Dylan would be so upset about purple nurse they weren't together very long were they?

I think they may be opening the door for Ethan to come back given Charlie's "there's more than one way to be a Dr" comment. Remember we did have a time when the mental health ward featured quite heavily with one Dr being a patient and Charlie working there for some reason.

Also given Charlie's time in mental health I'm surprised he thought forcing a Dr who was clearly having a breakdown to go and treat his friends was a good idea. Of course it worked out as this is casualty but in the real world definitely not a good idea.

I don't think Ethan is practising any more, least not in ED. Got that vibe from some of the conversation with Charlie and him saying he was at outpatients when the explosion happened. I'm kind of assuming his Huntington's symptoms have started 😢

Surely Stevie would be brain dead the amount of time she wasn’t breathing before indie found her her and apparently got a pulse

How handy they managed to drive right to the part of the shore to help

Seems the whole of the staff were outside waiting for the Stevie and Flynn - and then all working on them both while countless patients still needed them inside

Dylan to the rescue after Charlie rescued him

Ethan was an out patient so yes def has the shakes and why he didn’t want to do the removal

guess he will return. Always good to have a regular pay packet

Amazing how you can have such a massive disaster and it's all wrapped up in the space of one shift. I bet the second shift are so relieved it wasn't their turn. They got to come in early to help out only to find an empty emergency department with all the patients safely delivered to the wards

I loved that the credits at the end were the same graphics as 40 years ago !

Yes, Ethan's symptoms started - that's why he kept flexing his hand, and why he was hesitant about injecting the woman's forehead. And I think that's why he'd been st St James's as a patient, and why Charlie had been picking him up there.

William Beck is an amazing actor, the way he was having the panic attack in the cupboard was dead on. I was sobbing for him.

Lots of nice touches - the yellow Beetle, the bridge, the end credits. I got a bit emotional at several points, especially 'Here, I am cleaner. Back home, I was surgeon' (but then I was watching it at 7am 😆). William Beck's performance was outstanding - my heart broke for Dylan when Purple Nurse died. Do we think he was going to declare feelings for Stevie before Flynn turned up? (Because obviously he was ready to be discharged after near-drowning, hypothermia and a major haemorrhage 🤨).

It did all seem to be wrapped up very quickly if there was an empty department by the time the morning shift arrived, but I'm not going to pick holes in it because I thought it was outstanding overall. It ticked every box, from an exploding ED to an ambulance hanging off a cliff to a 'That's not my son' moment with the dead footballer, and Charlie had to be there, really!

There's nothing until January now, apparently 😢

It was a huge shock to him when she was pregnant and not something he had ever wanted but after a bit of thinking space he was prepared to step up and be a dad. She was important enough to him to face his biggest fear - fatherhood and now we know the depth of the problems between him and his own dad.

I was kinda hoping that Ethan would treat Stevie and she wouldn't make it 😉 (I will never forget or forgive that she joined Holby ED because she was planning to kill Ethan).

I’ve just checked the credits in Radio Times, and although they give 38 character names and their actors there’s no mention of Charlie and Ethan. Maintaining the surprise, I suppose.

Flynn is handsome and Jodie is beautiful. They are a couple in real life. If they have children they will be absolutely gorgeous.

He is great, Casualty wouldn’t be the same without him.

He treated her sister , I think he made a mistake and she ended up in a coma for a long time then died and Stevie wanted revenge.

I actually really like her character but I think its a great example of Holby ED HR being a law unto itself that a staff member who joined with the plan of 'offing' a fellow member of staff (which was all played out in a roof top attack) still has a job rather than prison cell.
