Listening to Nicola on Thursday about her dad and the doll made me think of Phil and his dad.
I’ve a feeling that Nicola will be the one holding the family together when they arrive and have the fall out being raised with an abusive dad, same as the Mitchell’s and their problems historically.
Nicola can act and do it justice , but the new family may take a time to bed in.

Yes you're right 80s, they are 'doing a Phil' on Nicola to make her more sympathetic and human. I am not sure it is quite as 'earned' as Phil, she hasn't been around long and she has done some horrific stuff. But they are obviously softening her down.

I hope Nicola doesn't soften , her past has left her very brittle and vulnerable but she only seems to focus on it on the anniversary , when everyone who knows will leave her well alone .

I love how Harry and Barney are very protective of her when she has her "Dark Day" and accept that is how she copes ...

But -
This years she's already said she's ready to push all that aside , not get herself in a drunken stupor , and have a party for Kojo .

Her bloody meddling family will rock up on the anniversary won;t they . Her mum and Nicola have some very unresolved issues there .
It'll start off all nice then the shit will hit the fan . The faaaaamily will be all how could you have a party today of all days
Harry will go into a massive "Whoah. Kojo didn't even want a big birthday party , now this has happened^
George will flannel about being bloody useless and everyone will think it's resurfacing old wounds about Eddie

Is Nicola the eldest ?
She certainly seemed to take the brunt of the abuse .

Phil was definitely Eric's punching bag and he took a lot of beatings to save Grant . Sam was his favourite and probably safe from him physically but she'd have heard it all.

I'd assumed she was the eldest, the others were at swimming lessons, and she was 8, so it seemed likely to me that they'd be younger.

Maybe she wasn't his.....

70s when I say softened, I mean what they have done with Phil (and Suki) to make them more rounded and interesting. They have to do something with Nicola or she's just a one dimensional villain.

I'm not sure the backstory is going to excuse burying someone in a shallow grave, but they're giving it a go😆

Suki came into the Square telling everyone she was dying which was a lie) , falling out with everyone including her own daughter . Suki couldn't accept Ash being bi-sexual , there was a pregnancy . Cannot remember if Suki wanted her to keep the baby and Ash didn't or the reverse .
Now she's married to Eve and tried to convince Avani to let them raise her baby .

Phil kept a lot of his past buried . Not accepting Eric or blaming Peggy . He never blamed Grant . But just seemed to think that's how he was and that's what men were like . He took a long while to accept Ben being gay too . But he didn't try to punch it out of him like Eric would have done .

Nicola has a load of back story . And everyone in the Square seems to have been in some sort of crime . Not all murder , but a good few have buried skeletons .

It amazing quite how many crimes are committed on EE and how often they’re “inside”.

It’s being reported that Ravi is leaving.

Yep - how many people has he killed? Two? Then he harassed Denise and there was the cuckolding story. I'm sure there's more!

I wonder if he'll turn out to be the gunman in the flash forward.

But I hope Priya stays.

I used to like Ravi, but he has been ruined over the past year so I am not sorry to hear he's leaving. They left the character with nowhere to go. I hope Priya stays, the actress is so good.

70s yes they all have skeletons! Bal has done a fantastic job as Suki, they developed her over a long time and it became obvious why she was so damaged when we met Nish. Whereas with Nic her dad is long dead so we are just hearing about this, not 'seeing it'. At least with Phil we saw dad in flashback.

They may do a Nic flash back ! Especially if stays on

Agreed. Derek and Kat was a very odd match even for Eastenders. He was like Delboy but less attractive.

Omg! I've just read that Ravi proposes to Priya next week 😳 I hope she says yes, as they are so good together imho. Really hate the way she has been gallivanting around with dirty dog Max 🤢

Jack normally would not let her dress like that and to be homest dont feel her character should be exposing so much!
