x post Jane- I was half wondering if he was covering himself, in case there was something on the towel that there shouldn't be. I think players are a bit paranoid about handling substances and getting banned these days.

Simona Halep has a had a retirement tribute event. I’m glad she got to do something celebratory. It’s a real shame what happened to her career. She was just left hanging for so long which seems really unfair compared to how others have been dealt with.

It really is sad. Simona was one of my favourite players. I do wonder why her case was handled the way it was- when players like Jannik and Iga dealt with far quicker.

Yes, I saw that. I had hoped it meant they were ditching Isa- but then she turned up at Queen's. I think the gist was they were employing Eugenie Bouchard (like anyone is fussed about that).

Obviously a clothing budget savings exercise because Eugenie only wears a third of the clothing everyone else does and only a quarter of what Claire dresses in.

John Lloyd is on the Queens coverage saying that slams should go to best of 3 sets for the men.

I agree to be honest. It would remove the men/women equality arguments, makes it less likely you would have the really late finishes, makes it easier to catch up if there’s weather delays, and the calendar’s so full now the longer matches and the training needed for them are more likely to lead to injuries. You would still get some nice long three set matches.

I'm torn on that one Chessie. I can see the arguments, but just think how many great matches we'd have been deprived of. Two that immediately spring to mind are last year's RG final (would have been straight sets to Jannik), and AO 2022 (would have been Daniil in straight sets over Rafa).

I've also heard people suggest that only QF onwards should be best of 5, but any player reaching their first QF is going to be at a big disadvantage.

Oh that's a shame, NuRafa has pulled out of Queen's. He's one of the players I was looking forward to seeing.
