Ian went off after Sharon tried to poison him.
We are meant to believe he ended up in France somehow and met his ex ( Cindy ) who was hiding after being in witness protection for nine years and had left George and the girls because someone was after her in Spain.
What she did for 9 years hasn’t been revealed and she went to live in a beautiful rental property with Ian ( and a pool ! ) until she decided she really wanted to move back to Walford. Those 9 years bug me a bit , never explained at all or where she went.

Aha! Thank you! So many mysteries. I was shocked but pleased to see Cindy return though.

The house is Ian's. He bought it from Martin when Pauline died. I don't understand how a man who owns the Fish and Chips shop, the Pie shop, the market stall and I'm sure he partially owns the Laundrette, has money problems.

Kathy doesn't own the Albert anymore. She had to give it to Cindy who was blackmailing her for some reason. I can't remember if it was because she took that picture of Kathy and Harvey kissing. Or was to do with Kathy trying to kill her on Xmas day? As Oscar memorably said the other day, half the square has tried to leave her for dead lol.

Ok but where did Kathy and Pete’s live then? I recall maybe they lived in a flat? Or was that when they were younger. I agree re Ian’s business sense not being brilliant but he does have some ex wives/partners.

If that house is Kathy’s , she could draw out some equity or something if the business isn’t worth much. She also owns the Albert. (Or she did once, not sure now )
She was going to buy the cabs and launderette once as well, but it hasn’t been mentioned for ages. Who runs those ? Anyway , she can probably help him out , but it takes time to arrange these things

So confusing who owns what, who owes who what! Who’s slept with whom and had kids with who what?! 🤣

@gingercat02 @the80sweregreat the episode when Teddy told Chelsea about the money was back in August 2024. I had to look up this summary to ensure I wasn't making it up!

"Upcoming episodes will see Chelsea Fox move out of No1 Albert Square after the house is sold by Gray Atkins. Once it's revealed Teddy Mitchell and his sons will be moving in, Chelsea is gobsmacked to discover Teddy made a last-minute condition in his deal to buy the house. What could it be?"

He told her that Gray had to put a chunk of the money in an account for Jordan and gave her the details so the cash should be readily available. The scriptwriters have either completely forgotten or maybe it's held in trust until he is 18 (but Jumpers said something like "use it to raise your boy" as if she had immediate access)

Thanks for this.

My hazy memory is that Kathy and Pete lived in a high rise flat on a council estate. We only saw the interior but the estate was alluded to when Ian began his catering career, became a successful businessman and moved into a flat on the square. He was a poster child for the Thatcher working class boy done well who came from ‘umble beginnings and I think he had arguments with Pete about wanting more from life that the market stall and a flat on an estate.

I think Pauline and Arthur’s house was also a council property that Pauline managed to buy. Nowadays it would be too expensive for a working class couple even with a Right to Buy discount.

I actually find it really interesting watching old episodes of EE that reflect how life in London has changed. There was really old episode where Den was renting out a flat and someone mentioned it was £45 a week!!

I rather hope that Nicola will forge the receipt for the charity somehow or only give a little bit away ( George doesn’t know how much was in the bag )
I know it sounds deceitful, but I would give some away and keep the rest for the business, but goodness knows what she’ll do.

If George doesn’t know how much money is in the bag (which is odd in itself but anyway) then I would definitely do that. Eddie said it was in the low 6 figures so maybe £100,000 and change. Mind boggling that it all fit into the bottom of that bag. Even more puzzling that Eddie arranged for a friend to just put the bag in a cab and send to George’s. Anything could have happened to it!!

I remember Pete and Kathy in their high rise too.

It was Walford Towers, not sure of the accuracy of this but it apparently details all of the residents who’ve lived there over the years

The East End was affordable back when EE started even for people on lower salaries and normal jobs.
My brother bought a place near Stratford in 1972 for under 4k and they had ordinary careers and not much money. They had to beg steal and borrow to get that place. You could probably buy it with a loan if it was that price now!
It is unbelievable that someone like Lauren and Peter with two young boys and fairly low paid jobs could afford the rent on Dot’s old place these days. Even with her dodgy car set up and Phil’s safe to bail her out.
Yet they do.
Ian was definitely a Conservative poster boy , tbf his done well against the odds hasn’t he up to now! Quite the business man back then too.
I remember kath and Peter and her knitting business in the flat too.

It was quite conservative in 1985 if you think about it. A teenager turned business man ( Ian ) Kathy and her various businesses stall etc , the pub being run by two working class people with aspirations, even Sharon went to public school and not where Michelle went.
The poorer ones like the Fowler’s were finally a bit better off by buying the house, but it was hard going and reaped rewards now of course with house prices increasing. It’s all things today’s youth can only dream of most of the time.
