Was an avid ER fan 20+ yes ago. See its now on netflux, started rewatching. Its so superior to anything I have watched recently on TV. I had forgotten just how good it was! Anyone else?

Blimey I knew she looked familiar but hadn’t made the connection and I’m a massive Call the Midwife fan!!!

The age is obviously a big thing- but also the lack of a habit Grin.

I loved their scenes together. It's like a different show. Grin.

Daisypod · 30/04/2026 17:27

I’m up to season 8 now and Carla has recently died. I do think Benton treats Roger terribly when he tries to stop contact between him and Reece, even if he didn’t really like Roger Reece had been jointly raised by him so ending contract between them didn’t seem in anyone’s best interest and just cruel.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 30/04/2026 19:49

Yes I agree re Benton, he also treated Carla pretty poorly while she was alive.

Benton as I've mentioned is one of my favourite characters but he is a total asshole to Roger

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 01/05/2026 00:28

I've just reached the cringe worthy episode where Romano asks Lizzie out!
I thought she came across a bit predatory in her advances on Benton though!

I felt that way too & her "Dante" remark with Dr Ross earlier

I actually like Mark Greene, I see him as passionate about his job rather than egotistical. And I love Doug Ross! I think Bentin is the arrogant egotistical one, especially when it comes to his mother and sister/BIL.

I’ve just watched the episode where Greene’s wife persuades him to call in sick so they can spend the day in bed together, yet when SHE gets a call from work, she is quick to rebuff him.

Yeah, she was pretty full on! With everyone! (Except Romano 🤣)

Yes I agree re Benton, he also treated Carla pretty poorly while she was alive.

He was a bit of an immature dick when she told him she was pregnant but I think he eventually became a good co-parent. They seemed to rub along quite well and it only got combative because Carla announced that she and Roger were moving to Germany and taking Reece with them, I can’t really blame Benton for getting pissed off with her for that.

After Carla died I think he felt threatened by Roger’s close relationship to Reece, especially as Carla had told him that he might not be Reece’s biological father. He did the right thing in the end but understandable that his initial response was to just shut Roger out because he was terrified of losing his son.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 01/05/2026 15:02

I never watched ER when it was originally on and so I’m watching it now for the first time round!!!

Currently around the end of Season 3, where poor Gant died and Carol was a hero in the supermarket shooting.

I really can’t take to Carol at all!!

I can’t believe Susan left Dr Greene behind!

I can’t wait to see how the series unravels…… it seems like I have a LOT of seasons to look forward to 🤣

SarahAndQuack · 01/05/2026 15:56

I never liked Carla very much. I don't think Benton was great to her, but equally, she fairly obviously just picked him as the 'good bet' for a dad. I had forgotten how awful Jackie is. Incredibly possessive of her brother.

Raahh · 02/05/2026 12:10

I've just watched the episode when Carol leaves , and goes to Seattle to be with Doug (and the whole thing had been kept a big secret, and no-one knew Clooney would be in it). Leaving her kids with her mother.

One minute, she's in work, next minute, she's doing that 'running through an airport last minute without a 3hour delay at security' thing, which only ever happens in films.Grin

I get it would have been a lot harder to have her packing up , and flying off to Seattle, juggling crying babies on a plane. But it might have been a bit more realistic Grin

cordelia16 · 02/05/2026 21:38

I've been rewatching for the past month (watched when it aired originally and have seen episodes here and there over the years). It's fun to see guest stars/recurring characters who went on to bigger things. There are three from CSI: George Eads, the paramedic who kissed Carol, Marg Helgenberger, who "dated" Ross, and ofc Jorja Fox, who played Dr Maggie Doyle.

maysayyea · 03/05/2026 09:34

My thoughts on Peter and Carla. Peter had just had an aids scare! I find it hard he would be having unprotected sex

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 03/05/2026 10:19

Im on season 8 (I think) just had the student Dr with Parkingsons (who looks really familiar), Carter seems to look younger than last season and Luca is continuing to be a complete dick 🤦‍♀️

pinotnow · 03/05/2026 10:27

I had somehow totally missed just how unlikeable Luca is at first when I watched originally. I've got through those bits now and am on season 12, which I'm actually quite enjoying. I like the friendship between Abbie and Neela and quite like Pratt, Ray and Morris, although I find it hard to care about Pratt's half-family that seems to get a lot of screen time for no good reason.

Don Cheadle (Dr with Parkinsons ) is a pretty big star- he's been in a number of Marvel filsm, notably Iron man.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 09/05/2026 09:12

Now up to season 10, watches episode ‘freefalling’ last night 😳 that was still as crazy as I remember, poor Romano! I can’t believe the writers did that to him 😱😂 they have a sick sense of humour!

Raahh · 09/05/2026 09:52

I'm still on Series 8- and Mark's tumour is back, and Romano is lovely to Elizabeth after she finds out.
It's the episode after the one with e Breakfast club rip-off episode, when i remember realising the actor who played Romano had actaully been the bloke with red hair in the Fame film.

I like when Romano shows his human side- he's one of my favourite characters at this point- and yes, the helicopter thing is batshit Grin.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 09/05/2026 10:27

Wow that photo of him is great!

He must have pissed the producers off or something as by season 10 the human side has completely disappeared and he’s just an angry little man that everyone takes piss out of or hates. I was hoping that someone (other than Corday) would turn up at his memorial. And what happened to his dog? 🙈😂

Talking of dogs Susan giving a puppy to a blind old man who then promptly shoots himself?! Ffs Susan, and what happened to that puppy?? 😉😂

Raahh · 09/05/2026 10:41

It is an amazing pictureGrin.
Romano was always unlikeable in a way, but there was a comedic side to it- and he always had the human moments underneath.
But yes, they really changed him. But the writers did that with so many characters.
I think I'm also at the point where Luka changes from grieving for his wife/ moving on from Abby the first time- to being a total womaniser. Which really wasn't his character before that at all.

Dogs are always going missing in ER. Mark took home a dog (that he was going to give to Rachel, til he found out she had been given 2 at Christmas). Weaver took home Stinky in a previous episode to save him from the pound- never find out what happens to him.

The other thing that’s batshit - and it’s not just er that’s guilty of it- is there’s always millions of doctors treating one patient. With one nurse taking orders in the background 🙄

then they think nothing of fucking off in the middle of a shift to track down a patient that has absconded/been misdiagnosed or whatever.

no one ever rings the police to report a welfare concern or a missing person and let them do their jobs.

would have made a good crossover tbf. There was one with Susan and third watch was it? Where the police actually looked for her niece/sister.

eta sorry don’t know why that quote is included- not relevant!

Raahh · 09/05/2026 19:24

@Usernamenotfound1 I know what you mean- it's like 'Silent Witness' where the pathologists spend more time being detectives.

I've just been watching the ER/ Third Watch crossover-one which was in itself fairly bonkers (just how quickly did Susan get from Chicago to New York? it made it look like she walked out of a shift and got there in 5 minutes) .

It's about a 1 1/2 hour / 2 hour flight- and that's without any waiting about in the airport - this being post 9/11 ). I think the episode may have been filmed before that, and broadcast after, but even so Grin

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 09/05/2026 22:45

I didn’t get that episode at all, it seemed pointless 🤷‍♀️

Kickinthenostalgia · 09/05/2026 23:09

Rewatched good knows how many times, I usually put it on whilst ironing 🙃 it will always be more superior to any medical drama imo. The Pitt is fantastic put to me ER is the GOAT.
I’ll always be a Carol and Doug fans… that’s where my obsession of George clooney started. Like most others I’m assuming. Know pretty much every episode off by heart, most of the guest stars, characters.
