I think this woman needs her to realise her star has fallen like a lot of minor celebs. She has had a good run and everything has did was tired. New cookery blood should be allowed a chance.

I thinks it's undignified to start accusing her erstwhile employers of racism.

Nadiya Hussain launches another blistering attack on the BBC

Nadiya Hussain has launched another blistering attack on the BBC after previously claiming she'd been axed due to racism in the 'broken' TV industry.

Oh I dunno i think she is probably right, a woman of colour and a Muslim not conforming to Bbc "beauty: standard is racist and sexist.

Really? Why? She has had a very good run as OP says. I believe her last cook book was on Islamic cuisine, which may not appeal to a wider audience. I imagine anyone who does Islamic cooking is already pretty expert.

Ah right i see who where this is going, fwiw Nadyias last show for the Bbc was a travel food show so what are you on about "islamic cuisine".

LizzieSiddal · 10/03/2026 07:37

The DM absolutely hate her and can’t wait to stick the boot in. I wonder why 🤔

Codyrhodesisaheel · 10/03/2026 07:39

I think it’s possibly a bit of everything.

I like Nadia and follow her on insta but I think she’s probably naturally come to the end of her TV career and ten years is a huge achievement tha she should be proud of. But she’s not “owed” a tv show, there comes across a little smidgeon of entitlement of “how dare you?”

but I also do believe that there’s probably huge truth in what she’s saying. She probably was dropped because of focusing on Muslim cooking, but that could also be because she’s focusing on a smaller audience. I honestly don’t know.

I have bought a couple of her books but to be honest never made any of the recipes. But I do like her.

Coffeeishot · 10/03/2026 07:40

The op is talking about her TV experience working for the bbc and how she should stop complaining not her cook book, i mean why shouldn't there be a cook book aimed at muslims which i believe her last book was about

mids2019 · 10/03/2026 07:41

A television career isn't guaranteed and there are plenty of new young chefs out there ready to show off their talnets. What Nadia is saying the as a female Mulsim she should never be axed independent of her viewing appeal as this is instantly racist. I think that is unfair to the BBC.

a Muslim cook book will have less appeal to a general audience as about 10% of the population are Muslim and in reality apart from some dietary restrictions what is different between Muslim cooking and general cooking which tends to draw influence from many cultures anyway? It was a marketing mistake.

Unfortunately, as a woman – and a woman of colour – if you speak up, often it's considered "being difficult" or "being a nuisance", whereas I know, from experience, that if I was a man, they'd be like: "Oh, you know what he's like"'.

She’s probably right. Most women and most people of colour have been in the situation where you are aware that your treatment would differ if you were a man or if you were white or both.

I said her last cook book, didn't mention BBC shows.

Norwegianwooded · 10/03/2026 07:46

She comes across as very spoilt and entitled to me. It’s a shame. I think fame has not done her any favours long term.

Coffeeishot · 10/03/2026 07:47

Nobody is telling Jamie oliver to move along and make way or marcus Waring Tom Ketteridge, for new blood, anyway i have nothing else to say about it , your thread says all i need to know about you op.

What the fuck is Islamic cuisine?

Ritaskitchen · 10/03/2026 07:47

She could launch herself online. She would have complete control over image, recipies etc. Then she could also see how popular she is. I can image she is very disappointed about this turn of events.
But a bit career isn’t guaranteed and plenty of other bake of winners have gone on to not great levels of fame. I think her expectations are unrealistic.

She dared to do a cook book about Ramadan and Eid,

mids2019 · 10/03/2026 07:49

There is a whole host of bale off stars who have not had careers. She is lucky to have had a chance and it does seem entitled to respond to a series cancellation with wild accusations of racism. What if the simple truth was she had lost her appeal...her shows were very samey.

OvernightBloats · 10/03/2026 07:49

Having looked at some of her recipes online, she likes to put odd combinations together which sound really unappetising. I admire her creativity but on the whole the recipes don't appeal to me.

For example:
Chocolate, cinnamon, orange and chilli nachos recipe - BBC Food

Chocolate, cinnamon, orange and chilli nachos recipe

Chocolate, cinnamon, orange and chilli nachos recipe

Nadiya’s genius sweet nachos are coated in cinnamon sugar and topped with sweet oranges, vanilla cream, chocolate, pecans and chilli (if you dare!).

GrooveArmada · 10/03/2026 07:50

I think she's making the right points but since she's had a really successful decade on TV, which is a big achievement, it doesn't land well with some people. I can also see that side as most of us would never be as successful as her.

She can't win, if she didn't have the platform she has, nobody would even bother to hear her voice.

I think she'd be better off becoming a patron of an organisation supporting Muslim women and highlighting her points this way, it would have a direct impact on the women who need that help, to have fairer opportunities.

Otherwise, I think anyone coming from what essentially was a 5-minute wonder show and then turning it into a successful, lengthy, undoubtedly highly profitable career, then complaining will come across poorly even if they're correct.

TofuTuesday · 10/03/2026 07:50

She’s not a qualified chef is she? I think she’s done very well to get ten years out of winning bake off . I can’t think of other reality show winners with long careers (rylan? Olly mires?)

Pinknotpurple · 10/03/2026 07:53

Nadia needs to realise she got far more out of being on Bake Off than she could ever have expected.

She's simply not interesting enough to base another show on, there doesn't need to be a reason to stop giving her airtime but a reason to commission it. She's not owed anything.

I agree with this. She's had a really good run of it, she's coming across as entitled now.

mids2019 · 10/03/2026 07:54

I think if you look worldwide and even in the UK having a lack of a lucrative contract expansion isn't exactly the worst thing that can befall a Muslim woman. In fact having a homely Muslim woman fulfilling a destiny of cooking for hubby and family may be problematic in itself in terms of women's potential.

ClaraThePigeon · 10/03/2026 07:55

Isn’t her name Nadiya and not Nadia?

Middle Eastern recipe books from various countries are hugely popular at the moment.(I know that not all Islamic countries are in the Middle East). I regularly see new ones while browsing bookstores or Amazon but I think that the focus on Ramadan/Ramadhan may be narrowing the appeal considerably.

I do think that television is very fickle and that only a relatively small handful of people get consistent work for decades. That doesn’t discount the fact that there may be other factors involved as Nadiya suggested but I do think that presenting is like acting in that you can be the biggest star around one moment then almost completely forgotten the next.

Yes, no one is saying ‘Look, Nigel, we’ve had enough of you unwrapping things in your pantry from brown paper with a weirdly fetishistic air’ or ‘Rick, Chalky the dog was three times more charming than you — we’re done here’.
