https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-15628823/Nadiya-Hussain-attack-BBC-cancelled-difficult-conversations.html

I think this woman needs her to realise her star has fallen like a lot of minor celebs. She has had a good run and everything has did was tired. New cookery blood should be allowed a chance.

I thinks it's undignified to start accusing her erstwhile employers of racism.

Nadiya Hussain launches another blistering attack on the BBC

Nadiya Hussain has launched another blistering attack on the BBC after previously claiming she'd been axed due to racism in the 'broken' TV industry.

Why are posters insisting on spelling her name wrong?

She has a job in a school.

I liked her programmes, especially the one where she toured Britain. I find her amusing and engaging.

I'm sick to death of seeing the same presenters on the BBC.

There is growing Muslim anti-sentiment in this country, it will have affected Nadiya, she has a right to talk about her views on her religion and being a woman.

She's had to leave the school job, and has obviously struggled as there are no tv shows in the pipeline. It's tricky as she came to fame winning Bake Off rather than having a restaurant. However, I do wonder if she'd gone more down the travelogue route, although that's a bit saturated.

Coffeeishot · 10/03/2026 07:36

Ah right i see who where this is going, fwiw Nadyias last show for the Bbc was a travel food show so what are you on about "islamic cuisine".

It's true she wrote a book about Islamic cuisine and she was disappointed the BBC didn't seem to take an interest in it. I think the publisher didn't want her promoting it much either.

And she felt in doing so it might have led to her no longer being used by the BBC. I think that's partly where her implications of racism are coming from.

AmandaBrotzman · 10/03/2026 07:47

What the fuck is Islamic cuisine?

Try buying her cook book? It was published last year and is called:

'Rooza: a journey through Islamic cuisine inspired by Ramadhan and Eid'

ChristmasStars · 10/03/2026 08:27

What a ridiculous thread title. Last I read she had a new job.

She did a great job on TV while it lasted - I suspect she's right about the racist misogyny though.

Lorraine Pascal? She's great. I think she works on the US Food Network. She's still working.

She is indeed. Perhaps she saw the writing on the wall, hence the move to America.

Coffeeishot · 10/03/2026 07:28

Oh I dunno i think she is probably right, a woman of colour and a Muslim not conforming to Bbc "beauty: standard is racist and sexist.

Edited

She's very pretty actually.

Right. It seems a bit odd if the publisher wouldn't promote it? Sounds a bit counter productive. There are loads of Ramadan cookbooks, you'd think she'd have an edge, though, being well known.

Bruisername · 10/03/2026 08:28

I never watched bake off and she’s the only person I know from it. I thought she was quite refreshing tbh but I don’t think she’s had good career advice and was overly reliant on the BBC which explains why she’s struggling as she clearly felt she was part of it when they just saw her as outsourced talent

if I think of other competition winners - I think she could take advice from Thomasina Myers - she definitely tried to broaden the career and has become a campaigner

She's absolutely stunning. A beautiful woman, and very engaging.

This is what Nadia does, she’s made it a personality trait.

I read two years ago about her complaining about her mother, that she wasn’t allowed to finish her education. I thought, even if that’s true, why embarrass your mother like that? When clearly there would have been a cultural element to it and not out of spite from the mother- whom she still has a relationship with. That’s the point I checked out from her drivel.

Nadia, the millionaire, has a problem with the world and the people in it and will always seek to blame others for her perceived misfortunes.

She doesn’t strike me as someone who has any friends….for good reason.

Edited

Oh give over, you would have zero clue how many friends she has. Or how much money for that matter.

Weeelokthen · 10/03/2026 08:29

If you are going to make a post about someone you should, at least, have the decency to spell her name correctly!!

Inventorofthetoasterstreudel · 10/03/2026 08:29

LokiDoki75 · 10/03/2026 08:24

The BBC hasn’t commissioned any new cookery shows for 2026 at all. It’s Masterchef The Professionals (reality competition), Great British Menu (another reality competition) and Saturday Kitchen (lots of old clips as filler). Reality shows are cheaper to produce so that’s what we get now instead of more traditional style shows.

I was coming on to say this too, Nigella’s last full series on the BBC was in 2020 and a Christmas special a couple of years ago. I think YouTube and TikTok have killed off the traditional tv cooking program.

I like Nadiya, I have one of her books but don’t make much from it but I did enjoy her on tv, aside from throwing weird things like spaghetti hoops and wotsits into places they shouldn’t have been.

BlueOrangeRed · 10/03/2026 08:30

Coffeeishot · 10/03/2026 07:47

Nobody is telling Jamie oliver to move along and make way or marcus Waring Tom Ketteridge, for new blood, anyway i have nothing else to say about it , your thread says all i need to know about you op.

Indeed. I remember the joke a black male comedian made about 20 years ago about having to wait for Lenny Henry to die. As apparently Britain could only cope with one at a time.

Never seems to apply to white men does it?

likelysuspect · 10/03/2026 08:30

Untalkative · 10/03/2026 07:57

Yes, no one is saying ‘Look, Nigel, we’ve had enough of you unwrapping things in your pantry from brown paper with a weirdly fetishistic air’ or ‘Rick, Chalky the dog was three times more charming than you — we’re done here’.

When was the last time Nigel Slater had a prime time cooking show? Same with Tom Kerridge although he is on that British cook off show (which I hate)

I cannot abide Marcus Waring either but he is all over the place

I suppose the difference in trained chefs (not sure that includes Nige) is that this is their career. She was a reality TV show contestant who got lucky and good for her, but tons of the bake off contestents didnt have a TV show, they're doing cooky stuff in the background, Nancy Birtwhistle springs to mind for example and who is that one who fronts the junior bake off? Cant remember his name, young man.

But largely, TV and radio and film and music are fickle and often people just have their time and arent seen much any more. Doesnt mean she cant do her job, just not on the telly.

Yes, I wonder if a better agent would have helped?

Changingplace · 10/03/2026 08:14

Agreed, Jamie Oliver has also run campaigns like the school dinners one, and one where he trained young chefs, he doesn’t just do TV work but those projects then lend themselves to an interesting topic for a show.

Marcus Wareing is a Michelin star chef, he’s got that angle, Tom Kerridge owns a number of restaurants - most TV chefs don’t just appear on programmes cooking, that’s part of their careers not the only thing.

Tom Kerridge also has a star (two actually), for The Hand and Flowers.

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 10/03/2026 08:30

Her actual comments were that she’d had a difficult conversation with producers where she asked that they focus on her recipes not her clothing and appearance, shortly after that she was dropped.

It’s fair enough for her to share that information, that’s her experience.

The daily mail has then gone off on a tangent to slur her and OP and others are buying into it wholeheartedly, which is just sad.

PuppyMonkey · 10/03/2026 08:31

I liked her on Bake Off but I have to admit I haven’t seen any of her TV programmes. I think she’d be good on Loose Women or something. Maybe I’m a Celeb? Don’t suppose any of the Beeb reality shows will be calling her now though.

BlackbirdShouting · 10/03/2026 08:31

Codyrhodesisaheel · 10/03/2026 07:39

I think it’s possibly a bit of everything.

I like Nadia and follow her on insta but I think she’s probably naturally come to the end of her TV career and ten years is a huge achievement tha she should be proud of. But she’s not “owed” a tv show, there comes across a little smidgeon of entitlement of “how dare you?”

but I also do believe that there’s probably huge truth in what she’s saying. She probably was dropped because of focusing on Muslim cooking, but that could also be because she’s focusing on a smaller audience. I honestly don’t know.

I have bought a couple of her books but to be honest never made any of the recipes. But I do like her.

Gordon Ramsey, Jamie Oliver…

I believe it is very relevant. She came to people's attention at a time when race tensions were very high in the aftermath of the BLM protests, and she was a breath of fresh air in the world of TV cookery.

Her very visible difference, both skin colour and dress, was a big incentive for the BBC to promote her career to improve its own performance in offering opportunities to people of colour. And she could bake too, big bonus.

CurlewKate · 10/03/2026 08:32

Muslim cooking. 😂😂

Having looked at some of her recipes online, she likes to put odd combinations together which sound really unappetising. I admire her creativity but on the whole the recipes don't appeal to me.

For example:
Chocolate, cinnamon, orange and chilli nachos recipe - BBC Food

Agree - the last series of hers I watched she just seemed to be putting weird stuff in recipes, to a ‘WTF?!’ level. Another that springs to mind is Wotsits in macaroni cheese, but every recipe just had something ridiculous , unnecessary and unhealthy in.

I gave up on it, and I guess I wasn’t alone.

As a woman of colour in a predominantly white industry, with an ethnic name also, it absolutely fucks me off how the majority of you can’t even be arsed to spell her name right even when it’s plain as day in the links your posting.

This site is really just gutter level now.

I'm a white woman with trad English name that is spelt incorrectly 70% of the time. Its not necessarily racist....its just careless. I don't throw my toys out of the pram and have been guilty of a mispelling myself

bafta16 · 10/03/2026 08:33

Charity shops are full of cookery books. Perhaps people just can't afford them any more.
And ingredients.
