I do not like the idea of eating blindfolded. I know there are some fancy, experimental restaurants where you eat in the dark but I am always mindful of the time when my brother went to the cinema in the 1970s and didn't see the earwig that had crawled into his popcorn.

Boak

It always seems that the judges go completely the opposite way to the chef during the week (so if they didn't change as per the chefs suggestions it would have it better)

It’s been a bit flat judging chamber

CapabilityBrownsHaHa · 26/02/2026 19:54

So, I've been watching these courses for the first time. It's all a bit "meh", isn't it? Roast chicken dinner. And how many times have they had fillet steak and chips?

Desserts, well, we all know they go for perfectly executed "fun" things. I still remember the chocolate dog biscuit!

Saying that, they all liked the roast chicken dinner! 😀

littlbrowndog · 26/02/2026 19:55

Cow pie was one of the best things ever

Yes this week has been a bit meh

I think some of the most memorable dishes have been desserts - the cigar, the book…

Sunbird24 · 26/02/2026 19:56

And yes, cow pie!

CapabilityBrownsHaHa · 26/02/2026 19:56

The golden apples!

I actually made that once. I gave myself 90 minutes to do it, which I can confirm is NOT long enough for normies, but it was delicious. I’ve also made the bananaman dessert.

EsmaCannonball · 26/02/2026 19:57

Oh, I preferred Paul. Jack is ok, but I doubt he will get to the banquet.

Next week is Scotland with Adam Handling as the weekly mentor.

My favourite film set in Scotland is I Know Where I'm Going! Also love The 39 Steps.

littlbrowndog · 26/02/2026 19:57

Roberta’s big pie

there’s a theme there - pies

CapabilityBrownsHaHa · 26/02/2026 19:58

How many references to Local Hero are we expecting next week?

CapabilityBrownsHaHa · 26/02/2026 19:59

Or even more James Bond, for Sean Connery. Lol.

littlbrowndog · 26/02/2026 19:59

Yep. There’s bound to be a red telephone box or 2

One suspects they might as well call it Sean Connery Week.

EsmaCannonball · 26/02/2026 20:03

Oh, I have just had an amazing thought: a 10ft wicker man full of marzipan animals and a chocolate Edward Woodward that one of those arsonist barbecue chefs takes a kitchen blowtorch to while making all the other ones sing pagan folk songs.

EsmaCannonball · 26/02/2026 20:06

Ok. I want:

I Know Where I'm Going!
The 39 Steps
The Wicker Man
Whisky Galore!
Geordie
Greyfriars Bobby (the really sad old version with Gordon Jackson that makes you cry all the way through).

Fransgran · 26/02/2026 20:06

Just as long as nobody's favourite film is Trainspotting...

Agree re Paul.
Also love IKWIG. What's the call she uses to Torquil? Something like "Hey-oh" but not that 🤔

I can't remember but Torquil (love Roger Livesey) is on my list of future dog/cat names.

The Wicker Man would actually be very on brief. All that stuff about apples and harvests.

Fransgran · 26/02/2026 21:42

Gregory's Girl has a food thread in it and is a very cute film.I remember a scene where a teacher in the school staffroom is looking dubiously at a plate of buns made by pupils and a colleague telling him reassuringly that they'd been made by two "very clean wee girls."

Adore Gregory's Girl! (also have found you all, missed out on live this week do to stupid commitments, caught up now).

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 28/02/2026 14:03

The Wicker Man would really lend itself to some interesting presentation.
I’d probably think along the lines of Macbeth and the cauldron.
I’m expecting a lot of Harry Potter.

PotterHead1985 · 03/03/2026 19:01

Evening all. Last night was quiz night. Tonight is food night.

I'm holding out for the Yorkshire week because I'm thinking of going for the york food festival (york and Yorkshire was on mammy's bucket list). (Also apologies in advance for those of you who are on the MC thread too if I post a variation of this there at some point as I am looking for inspo)
