Random thought. I wonder if the name Cyril will ever come back into fashion for babies again.

Edited

I have never known anyone called Cyril.

I always think of Cyril Sneer from the Racoons.

user2848502016 · 05/03/2026 18:31

I quite like the name Cyril, also Beryl is due a comeback

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/03/2026 19:25

I worked with a Beryl she'd be in her 80s now I think.

BestIsWest · 05/03/2026 19:28

I have the song Nice One! Cyril as an earworm now.

@NotMyRealAccount FIL had a brother but he emigrated to the US. Not sure if he was younger or older.

MarchWindsAnd · 05/03/2026 20:27

Nice one, Cyril
Nice one, son
Nice one, Cyril
Let’s have another one.

Two of us with that ear worm now.

StrugglingwithIvanhoe · 05/03/2026 20:38

I had an uncle Cyril who would also have been about 100 years old now, but he preferred to be called Sam!

BestIsWest · 06/03/2026 11:05

I think Beryl is a really nice name. I knew a couple when I was very young but they would be over 90 now.

You can have hours of fun with this tool from the ONS. Looks like Beryl peaked in the 1930s but dropped out of the top 100 completely by 1950.

The only Cyril I know is a squirrel that my neighbour has made an assault course for in his garden. We love Cyril the Squirrel!

If this series isn’t the last with the current cast, why are they making such a big deal about the finale? The CTM socials have posted photos of the cast, past and present, coming together for a screening of Sunday’s episode. Jessica Raine, Mariam Mariam Margoyles etc all there. Surelt this means Sunday’s ep is the end of CTM in its current form?

WonderfulSmith · 06/03/2026 16:48

Quite a few Cyril’s in the last few years.

Sister Monica Joan is going to die. I would be amazed if she pulled off a miraculous recovery.

Is that enough to bring back almost the whole cast from the last 14 years though?

The BBC and Heidi have not confirmed if they’re bringing the current cast back. Just that they’re having a ‘pause’. Surely it all points to most if not all of the cast not being a part of it in the future.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/03/2026 22:01

They’ll be a Christmas special, maybe that will be the final final? 😢

Evenstar · 06/03/2026 22:06

No Christmas special this year apparently ☹️

Yes but that’s a prequel with new actors.

I read an article in this weeks Radio Times. Heidi Thomas is quoted as mooting the idea of future series being based around a small district hospital. If they wanted to make it fit with where the real Nonnatus sisters ended up in Birmingham, then I can imagine an entirely secular set up based in a suburb of or small town near Birmingham. Possibly the religious connection could be maintained by having cameo roles of the sisters doing chaplaincy work. Shows like Waterloo Road, Silent Witness etc have relocated somewhere else so there is precedent. A few of the current cast might be persuaded to make the move.

Finally finished last week episode.

Very mixed bag for me.

Ted Mullins (is that his name?) borough the to tears at his AA meeting. I think having a baby like Susan probably ended a lot of marriages due to coping styles etc.

I love Sister Catherine so much. She has such a lovely presence but also liked seeing her angry and frustrated and honest.

She does feel the way forward for me.

And as much as I love Sister Catherine I can not stand whiny Rosalind.
She is such an unlikeable character-can not warm to her at all.
Probably heightened by how much I also dislike her story line with Cyril-I find it preposterous and of all the things that would never happen this is just getting silly now for me.

Trixie appears to be in a completely different show.

Hope for a happy ending for Beryl-who has steadily grown on me.

And Sister Monica Joan obviously busy getting ready to die-I will cry at that!!

Agree with all this. The Ted Mullins AA scene brought me to tears too. That storyline has been one of the best, possibly the best.

I used to like Rosalind but she seems a bit silly at the moment.

I hope Beryl decides to leave and adopt but from the trailer it looks like she will decide to move on as she is menopausal and go back to her calling. I would have found it interesting for Beryl’s natural urge to have a child to have been explored more thoroughly this series but she keeps saying she doesn’t know what she wants which is quite vague.

Handeyethingyowl · 07/03/2026 10:58

Trixie becoming the matron at Lady Emily so she can connect with patients is a bit random IMO. What about Matthew?! Surely they have private hospitals in New York.

But Jonty is over in England at Pre Prep school and cared for by a nanny so I think idea is that Matthew is due back to UK.

WildCritic · 07/03/2026 14:17

I think we are getting a birth, a marriage and a death tomorrow. Belinda Mullocks will give birth, Cyril snd Rosalind get married and Sister Monica Joan dies. Also we get a clue where the planned film will be located with India and Australia both being mooted in the press.

If that happens surely the Buckles and the Turners will no longer be in it. They won’t realistically move to Birmingham. It will probably be the end of Trixie, Rosalind, Cyril, Joyce etc too.
