Does Fred ever mention his daughters again after marrying Violet and Reggie coming on the scene? I have a slight memory of one moving to Australia and one turned up and was angry he was remarrying.

BestIsWest · 13/03/2026 11:48

I rewatched it all a couple of years ago though I might do it all again soon.

I can't recommend enough @BestIsWest

Although I forgot how much crying there is (that's me crying)

Just sobbed through Frank and Peggy.

The stories are so powerful and beautiful.
And why did they get rid of all the Nuns?
The Nuns singing is just so beautiful and really sets the tone.

Only just catching up now on the final episode.

The priest stood out for me, his voice and tone was so realistic I thought to myself ‘where and how do they find such good actors’. I am not surprised to learn that it was a real priest. It felt like watching a real funeral and brought a stillness to the episode which actually made me sit up on the edge of the sofa to really soak it in.

I am very happy the Mullocks family was brought back to see the series out. I think the Thalidomide story could never have been a passing event in a programme like this, it needed to be a thread that ran through it.

They had managed to secure another three series three years ago, and I don’t think moved to secure anymore after that. So it was a planned ending I believe, it didn’t get cut short.

Sister Evangelina delivered Timothy. She mentioned it in the episode where Shelagh and her were talking about Shelagh being unable to have have children after her tubercolosis.

She said his mother said when he was born ‘’I want you to always be loved.’ I know because I delivered him.’

I have no memory of him mentioning his daughters after he got married.

He never mentions his grand children either. He has several.

TinselandTiarasRightNow · 10/04/2026 05:10

I feel like the last season was really rushed !

Toddlerteaplease · 18/06/2026 16:57

Re watching from the beginning, I had forgotten how good it was at the start. Just got up to Cyril
and Lucille getting together. It’s such an odd storyline, there is just no chemistry between them
at all. And she really is an awful bore!

Edited

She is a bit wet at times and her character is not really written well she just seems to be contradictory

The trixie character is fluffy and fun on the outside but also super smart and steely on the inside

Lucille sadly seems easily forgotten

I like the idea of a prequel im hoping they can pull it off

kazzaD66 · 18/06/2026 17:57

I've just read the prequel press release. It starts in 1939, when Sister Monica Joan is in her prime (her 40s??) and Sisters Evangeline and Julienne are young (their 20s/early 30s??). That doesn't seem to quite tally with the ages in the original series, does it?

Sister Monica Joan was supposed to have been born in 1871 so she would have been 68 in 1939. I think Heidi said somewhere that when they worked out the ages SMJ would be older than they first thought, but she was still ‘very much in her prime’. I take that to mean that she’s still got a lot of life in her.

Sister Evangelina born 1885/86 (according to online sources) so would be 55ish.

Sister Julienne is roughly late 60s in the early 70s so she would be mid 30s in 1939.

BridgertonToBe · 18/06/2026 18:25

Sister Evangelina actress Amy Booth Steele is 43 so they’ve made her younger than she should be (55)

Helen Schlesinger (SMJ) is 59 (SMJ would be 68)

Helena Wilson (Sister Julienne) is 31 (should be mid to late 30s)

Plumbernightmare · 18/06/2026 22:19

Ooh I know Helen Schlesinger from the BEST Twelfth Night at the RSC in about 1998. Fabulous Viola. I suspect I’m the only one though!

PrimalScreaming · Yesterday 10:30

I see Jenny Agutter is doing the narration, in the Vanessa Redgrave style role. I like that touch.
