Well, that was fantastic.

apple Snoop did Paris 24 too. Totally random (very well paid) career path for him. He's friends with Martha Stewart and she's next to him. I think he's living his best life these days.

The purple outfit is adorable. I didn't realise Japan were such a big ice skating nation.

I can’t imagine it would seem much money to him..

I hate this quick summary blundered out by Clare - I want more!

Applecharlotte2 · 17/02/2026 22:02

Oh I don’t bloody think so Clare - we are not on edge of our seats for more curling 🥴

They all seem really young. What what the average age is?

The minimum age is now 17, after a Russian doping scandal at the Beijing games. For a while, the Russians were pushing these very tall, skinny teenage girls who could land quads (because they had the figures of boys and evidently seemed to have delayed puberty). That got nipped in the bud.

The best Winter Olympic event is the women's free skating. Just beautiful to watch. All are brilliant athletes and stars. A delight.

Flukingflukes · 17/02/2026 22:09

Yes, definitely my favourite discipline.

However, I want one of those curlers to come and give my kitchen floor a good seeing to.

wanderingstarz · 17/02/2026 22:10

I do love watching the women's free skating, but I love the Luge and Skeleton for the sheer madness of it.

CoolFineDoneWicked · 17/02/2026 22:12

I mean, I enjoy the curling, I like all of the events, but figure skating is huge and everyone loves it - the arena is always full, and loads of celebs there. Can't understand the BBC not showing more of it.

All the events with lunatics launching themselves down, or off, a precipice (which is 90% of them) are amazing.

I agree, though I have got a bit obsessed with the routine from the Japanese pair who won the gold last night.

Yes, TNT are bloody annoying. It would be ok if their coverage of the sports they take over is any good.
They have been pretty rubbish with the tennis.

I’ve really enjoyed their winter Olympic coverage aside from the ice skating commentators who are insanely annoying . In regular months their biathlon coverage is excellent and the coverage of the Indian cricket this winter has been brilliant .

It was glorious wasn't it? I think pairs figure skating edges it for me, followed closely by women's individual. The ice dancing can be beautiful, but it's as often as not quite naff.

It's gymnastics on ice. You have to be super fit and dedicated.

Valieva got nipped in the bud. The coaching team abusing 15 year olds seem to have got off scott free and are at the rink side this Olympics.

True, the "ban" on Russia is an absolute joke.

Ye and it’s probably still happening. I was reading an article recently about some of these young skaters and they’re riddled with permanent health problems still only in their twenties. Not to mention the eating disorders.

SabrinaThwaite · 18/02/2026 10:48

Wow! GB women’s curlers have just beaten the USA with their last stone!

Up yours Steve Cramm, who had all but written them off (can you tell I think he’s a dick?).

FadedRed · 18/02/2026 10:53

What a finish! Well done Rebecca for keeping the team going and getting the shot of the match!

CrushingOnRubies · 18/02/2026 10:56

The GB women’s curlers must have had a cracking last couple of ends. They were losing and by a fair bit when I switched over to the snowboarding

Rebecca Morrison stole 2 with her last stone on the last end.

I'm in Spain this week and at a resort frequented mostly by German tourists. The only Olympics I can watch is on Eurosport Deutschland. They're showing a good range of different sports so it's an interesting comparison with BBC coverage (even if my German is sub par). There's a lot less curling on for a start which is a blessing!

Silverbirchleaf · 18/02/2026 11:50

And GB men finish in fifth! Well done!

(above post referred to women’s race).
