9 in the speed skating final - bonkers!

tinyspiny · 14/02/2026 21:48

TNT/ Discovery + is also great for cricket in the winter , much better than Sky .

That's the one sport I draw the line at 🤣

Best sport in the world unless you are watching England 🤣

DuncinToffee · 14/02/2026 21:50

Yes Jens!!

Hard to stay out of trouble

Silverbirchleaf · 14/02/2026 22:03

I was holding by breath for the speed skating final, and then the crash happened. Lovely to see the Dutch celebrations though.

i think i need to see a replay of that

Igneococcus · 15/02/2026 09:40

Oh, here you all are.

Raahh · 15/02/2026 10:11

Thank you for the new thread @Silverbirchleaf .

For those wanting more skating of the ice dance -ish type, the Pairs event starts today with the short programme. More throws etc than the dancing, but it's all about the synchronicity.

I used to love watching Gordeeva and Grinkov, back in the day. She always seemedtiny compared to him. Did some scary tricks that always looked like he was throwing a doll about.. Pairs teams now seem more 'matched' height wise.

Very sadly, it was Grinkov who died, aged only 28 of a heart attack in a training session Sad.

Raahh · 15/02/2026 10:15

(Of course, it's unlikely the BBC will show much, if any, of the Pairs, since there is little British interest , or any 'big news ' story, such as Malinin).

It will be shown on TNT /Discovery from about 6.30, I think.

GB’s men’s curlers are doing well against Germany.

Meanwhile the Canadian women have been caught touching the stone when they shouldn’t.

FuzzyPuffling · 15/02/2026 10:54

I got all excited about the pairs skating then, but if it's not on the Beeb I'm scuppered.

Why aren't the Canadian curlers disqualified? It's a massive swizz and must be really frustrating for their opponents. "Oh, we'll watch them carefully from now on" just doesn't wash with me. Play fair!

It’s really worth £3.99 for a discovery+ subscription on Amazon, you get to watch all the events you want to see completely uninterrupted. I’ve seen all of the figure skating this Olympics and loving it (despite the slightly chaotic men’s program on Friday)

Raahh · 15/02/2026 11:48

The issues with the Canadian curlers, means eveyone is being scrutinised way more than they would be. Officials are now being moved between the sheets, towatch the deliveries, when they weren't before. (I would have thought this was a given, rather than one either end of a 40ft strip of ice, but what do I know).

And now the Canadians are claiming that the filmed evidence of them touching the stone was illegally obtained , and the Swedes planned to catch them in the act.

It's all getting very murky, in what I would consider a 'sedate' sport. It's not ice hockey Grin

SabrinaThwaite · 15/02/2026 12:02

I think curling has always relied on players being honourable and respecting the rules, and it’s always been quite light touch with officials scrutinising - plus the electronic system in the handles has taken care of that rule in the past.

I used to be a swimming technical official and that was brutal - every swimmer’s stroke is scrutinised, every start, turn and finish is closely watched for infringements.

Sabrina- the 'light' touch aspect of the officiating was my understanding of it.
It's a shame if now they will all be under a microscope. Though of course, there should be no cheating- but it might make some players nervous, and make more mistakes.

Another gold for Klaebo in the Cross-Country Skiing - men's 4 x 7.5km relay

But surely if they weren't double touching the stone in the first blimmin' place there would be NO footage, legal or illegally obtained?!!! 🤔😄

I keep switching on, I must be missing it.

Go to iPlayer and select Winter Olympics, the go up to the Episodes link.

There are two livestreams running at the same time and they tell you what they will be covering. You may have toggle between the channels to see all the events you want.

You can also choose coverage of previous days, which is organised by sport. There's lots of figure skating there.

Enjoy!

ChippySauce · 15/02/2026 12:10

@SabrinaThwaite you don't say!
My DCs are club swimmers and have just done their county championships - <touch wood> clear sheet and no DQs as yet 😬
DH is a club time keeper, still needs to earn his stripes to become a proper official.

Unless filming is banned in the venue, how can it be illegally obtained?

And absolutely agree, nobody would be filming them cheating if they weren’t cheating!

SabrinaThwaite · 15/02/2026 12:14

Mixed team snowboard cross quarterfinals start at 12.45 - we’ve got a team in there so hopefully BBC will have it live.

Im jyst switching between the coverage on BBC1/2 and iPlayer on Ch 601.
