Yes, TNT are bloody annoying. It would be ok if their coverage of the sports they take over is any good.
They have been pretty rubbish with the tennis.

An actual box of chocolates was always such a big thing, wasn't it?

really isn't now. It's such a shame.

Yea I was only just thinking that - can you imagine having an advert like that all for just what would be 99p now

we defo need to go back to simpler things - now you have to have Christmas eve presents pjs omg - Xmas day isn’t enough! it’s sick inducing

when I watch reruns of tales of the unexpected and you see the size of their plates and glasses - Tiny!

Raahh · 17/02/2026 21:18

And TNT don't use all their 'red button' channels when available, which is the other annoying thing about them.

To be fair I’ve watched every single skate in the figure skating and it has been great, though I’d rather have Robin Cousins as the commentator. It is a pity the bbc has been left with scraps.

Applecharlotte2 · 17/02/2026 21:20

Gosh 600k to train a curler - is that cos they have to travel the length of Britain to find a rink? 😂😂

I 'love' Tales of the Unexpected' and I agree, we have really lost track of what is 'normal'
And can't comment on what is 'normal' for fear of critcising people.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2026 21:25

That ice dancer was jolly gorgeous.

Because TNT are buying the rights to everything. They are allowed 2 at any one time. I think that includes BBC2. It’s an IOC thing I guess but the BBC are struggling with what to show.

An hr of figure skating is probably about right given the number of other sports they will have to fit in to keep everyone happy.

I thought with the Olympics it's all just one package for the broadcasters, not per individual sport. And the packages are negotiated by the EBU, not the BBC individually. Which means it's down to the BBC what they choose to show. There's no justification for showing the same feed on both channels anyway.

I was reading that for early military biathlon competitions in the 1700s they had to carry a fully military kit-pack as well .... that would make things interesting!

Modern biathlon developed from a shooting/skiing event called "Military Patrol" at the first Winter Olympics in 1924.

wanderingstarz · 17/02/2026 21:27

Beautiful skate.

It’s how much you have to pay them to move to Scotland.

Before anyone gets arsey, THIS IS A JOKE.

Raahh · 17/02/2026 21:27

I do like Alysa Liu

Me too, she’s such an elegant skater, and so consistent.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2026 21:30

The women's competition feels much more artistic than the men's. More dancing, less jumpfillerjumpfillerspin.

Flukingflukes · 17/02/2026 21:34

I love the skating, at last a change from curling and skiing.

Raahh · 17/02/2026 21:34

This Georgian one was good in the team event, I thought.

SabrinaThwaite · 17/02/2026 21:34

Will also add, I have Scottish children.

Now a bit cross that they didn’t take up curling.

Yes it's much more creative and exciting to watch I find. The men's is too much about the quads, which are quite dull in the end, because they all look the same in the air. I love Adam Siao Him Fa though, because he is so much more artistic than most of the other men, and his choreography is always exciting. Shame he had such a shocker in the free programme. I'd take him over Malinin all day long.

We really need to return to that - and even are high portions are tiny compared to America - I always wonder what they think about our 35g bags of crisps

i was worried you’d think I was weird watching tales - they are so good and so many good actors in them!

I agree about Adam , I really liked Adam, it's shame his free didn't work. I Iiked his short programme too.

I like artistic, balletic programmes. I'm a bit 'meh' about the ones that all about the jumps. But I get that things have moved on.

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 17/02/2026 21:41

Thing is until the scoring is balanced between jumps and artistry, we get what we get. I’ve seen Malinin skate exhibitions without the jumps and he certainly can put emotion into a routine, in fact I find him quite beautiful to watch, but the way things are scored, if you can do the big jumps you’re going to prioritise those.

(I also love Adam)

StedSarandos · 17/02/2026 21:43

At the ice dancing, are the three blokes in hi-vis with white hats emergency services (cushy shift) or ice rink maintenance?

And who are all the children in pink on benches next to them? The little skaters who whizz round and tidy up?

This Japanese skater is lovely to watch.

wanderingstarz · 17/02/2026 21:43

Stunning.

Flukingflukes · 17/02/2026 21:45

These women are captivating. Pure class.

wanderingstarz · 17/02/2026 21:45

I love the way this Japanese skater moves on the ice.
