Rest in peace James.

Who he?

Thanks for taking the time to make this entirely worthwhile contribution to the thread.
Since you clearly have access to the internet, may I recommend trying something called a 'search engine'. This is a handy little tool that allows you to quickly and easily find the answer to any question you may have. Definitely a more effective fact-finding approach than trying to be a smart-arse by posting irritating "never heard of him!" type comments on threads like this.

fartoomuchtoblerone · 11/02/2026 20:55

Really sad. He seemed like a top bloke. Dawson will always have a place in my heart.

itsgettingweird · 11/02/2026 20:59

I just saw this.

Loved Dawsons Creek. He had bowel cancer diagnosed in 2024.

Possibly the last video tape I ever remember renting was his film Varsity Blues (in 2000, I think).

I remember not enjoying it because he wasn't Dawson and he wasn't with his DC cohort!

I was very into DC at the time. And have re-watched it in recent years.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3560060/ CSI:Cyber. It only lasted two series and was a bit pedestrian, but for some reason I rather liked it.

Redcrayons · 11/02/2026 21:02

So sad, Dawsons creek was my go to hangover watch in Sunday morning in my 20s. I put it on my rewatch list after they had the reunion recently.

Ponderingwindow · 11/02/2026 21:02

If you can find it to watch somewhere, Don’t Trust The B in Apartment 23 is a wonderful showcase of his talent. He played a caricature of himself and it is hilarious.

TattiePants · 11/02/2026 21:02

I’m not usually affected by celebrity deaths but this has made me soo sad. He was so young, as are his children.

Who he?

This is very unpleasant. It would have been faster for you to Google his name than ask here. You just posted that to be nasty.

RIP. Was he ever in anything else besides Dawson's Creek? I do remember him having a cameo in one of the Scary Movie films, as Dawson.

My main memory of him is in a movie called Eye of The Beast, which although a bit dodgy on the special effects front he is pretty good in, just found out it is part of a series of Creature Features from the same production company, noticed the news of his death on SKY news just now, didn"t know he was ill, very sad, RIP

Themoanranger · 11/02/2026 21:05

I’m very sad by this. I loved Dawson creek and also one of my other faves was OTH which he was in

NewGirlInTown · 11/02/2026 21:05

Fuck cancer.

So many rumours out there that big pharma has cures for loads of cancers, but make more money out of chemo and other ‘treatment’ drugs.
I pray to God that isn’t true.

ThatsRoughBuddy · 11/02/2026 21:07

He was funny as fuck in Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 playing a fictionalised version of himself. I was raging at how few episodes we got. And like half the world he was in my younger life as Dawson.

All his children are so young still. So awful for his family.

Kimberley has had to set up a go fund me as they've no money left.

Presumably because of American health care costs? What a disgusting system.

HarryVanderspeigle · 11/02/2026 21:08

Rest in peace James. I hate this fucking disease. Stage 3 with just local lymph nodes is usually quite treatable, so sad it didn't work out for him.

Taytocrisps · 11/02/2026 21:08

Awww, very sad news. I didn't watch DC when it was on TV back in the '90s. But I caught a few episodes of it during Covid. I knew he had cancer, but didn't realize it was so advanced. Condolences to his wife, family and friends.

SailingYachty · 11/02/2026 21:10

I’m so sad for him and his family, I was hoping the treatment he was having was going to help him. It’s just heartbreaking.

Eastie77Returns · 11/02/2026 21:11

I’ve been dreading this since I heard he had bowel cancer. Dawsons Creek was a staple of my teenage years and takes me back to a simpler time. Always feel nostalgic when I watch re-runs of the first few seasons and even though I was Team Pacey throughout I liked Dawson. Such sad news:(

Pyjamatimenow · 11/02/2026 21:16

Really depressing news. I watched Dawson Creek in my teens. The poor man

Seems that way yes unfortunately.

James Van Der Beek Dont Trust The B In Apt 23 GIF

I didn’t watch Dawson’s Creek but I loved him in Don’t Trust The Bitch in Apartment 23, where he played a caricature of himself complete with Dawson’s Creek references.

Sad times. Condolences to his friends and family (and Dawson’s super fans).

He played "himself" in the underrated comedy Don't Trust the B_ in Apartment 23 with Krysten Ritter.

Loved this, always wonder if it would have done better if it has a better name! Was so funny and he was great in it ❤️

That was such an underrated show! I admire celebrities who are willing to play themselves, and ham it up! Always makes me think they don’t take themselves too seriously, and are probably a good laugh😄

I really liked his turn in Criminal Minds. He also did a few decent movies, too.

Despite probably being the target audience, I couldn’t stand Dawson’s Creek. However, I had a lot of respect for James.
