Rest in peace James.

That is very sad news. I was an early watcher of DC, and loved it.

Needmorelego · 11/02/2026 20:26

Very sad to hear 🙁

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 11/02/2026 20:26

48 years old. Fucking hell. So young.

Vallmo47 · 11/02/2026 20:28

The very essence of Dawson’s Creek. I grew up loving that show. But more importantly, what a huge loss to his family.
Rest in peace James.

xsquared · 11/02/2026 20:29

Just a couple of years older than me. Dawson's Creek brings me back to my late teenage years, and not quite the start if adulthood.

RIP.

RIP. Was he ever in anything else besides Dawson's Creek? I do remember him having a cameo in one of the Scary Movie films, as Dawson.

Possibly the last video tape I ever remember renting was his film Varsity Blues (in 2000, I think).

I remember not enjoying it because he wasn't Dawson and he wasn't with his DC cohort!

I was very into DC at the time. And have re-watched it in recent years.

Incredibly sad. Watched bits of the reunion recently which he sadly couldn't attend. Awful for his family and 6 children, RIP xx

Grew up with Dawsons Creek. Gutted 💔💔

Not disrespectful, OP posted assuming everyone would know. I didn't so I asked. I also googled, and someone else told me too. I still don't know who he is as I never watched Dawson's Creek, however sad that a young person has died.

It is disrespectful. Next time google first instead of asking on the thread.

So sad, I hadn't realised he was so ill.

NeedingAHand · 11/02/2026 20:31

Wow this is very sad news. My thoughts are with Kimberly and the kids, I’d imagine they’re tired and heartbroken. 💔

I loved Dawson’s Creek growing up, it was right at my awkward teen stage, although I’ll admit I was always team Pacey. Having said that James, the man, always seemed like a wonderful human and their family always looked so joyful.

I think if it were me I would have maybe watched the thread for a while until it became clear.

Then I would have either not posted, or posted my condolences.

It's clearly a death announcement so a little sensitivity never goes amiss.

He played "himself" in the underrated comedy Don't Trust the B_ in Apartment 23 with Krysten Ritter.

I loved that programme. Really darkly funny.

Very sad news. 48 doesn't feel any age at all.

The clip at the reunion of all the cast and the Van Der Beek children all singing I Don't Want To Wait got me a little choked up 😥.

Sad news 😢. Loved Dawsons Creek despite being well over the target age group.

The creek did have some very eloquent teens, no wonder so many watched.

TheNextChapter · 11/02/2026 20:35

Kimberley has had to set up a go fund me as they've no money left.

Same here. May he rest in peace

Disasterclass · 11/02/2026 20:40

I’m not quite the right age for Dawson’s Creek but he was great in Don’t Trust the Bitch in Appartment 23 - really showed that he had a sense of humour.

48 is no age at all

kerstina · 11/02/2026 20:40

Very sad. Loved his character in Dawsons creek and the show. A great actor taken too young.

EdinaTheConfessor · 11/02/2026 20:42

Oh that is so so sad. I knew he was very poorly but hadn’t really considered that he was going to die.

Loved Dawsons creek and more recently he was brilliant as himself in don’t trust the B* in apt 23.

TheFatCatSatOnTheMat · 11/02/2026 20:48

Such sad news. He seemed like he had a wonderful sense of of humour - I love him in the Keisha Blow video! RIP

I tried to explain to my husband who had died and told him it was the other actor, not Pacey from Dawsons Creek….. Erm, so Dawson? 🫣

He’s been so terribly unwell, I’m glad he’s at peace. But his poor family, six kids.

Blinkingbother · 11/02/2026 20:50

Very sad. DC was a secret joy of mine whilst a teen. I realised the writing was on the wall when the rest of the (very privacy conscious) cast agreed to the reunion fund raiser …but had hoped there was a lot more time for his family’s sake. RIP.

Saharafordessert · 11/02/2026 20:54

So so sad 😢
Loved DC and rewatched it during lockdown….its iconic!

Travelfairy · 11/02/2026 20:54

Its so sad. His poor wife and kids 💔💔 loved him in DC, 48 is no age 😢
I noticed a gofundme set up for the family.
