I wonder which came first, luge or skeleton? In my mind it was Luge and one night after a few too many Glühwein‘s someone dared his (cuz, let’s face it - it will have been a bloke) mate to do it head first, and lo Skeleton was born.

I always wonder how sports like this came about.

Some things are make sense- running/skating/ skiing fast (aways from enemies /big beasties)/ skiiing down hills, cross country all that.

But whizzing down a track feet first on a little sled- under what real life crcumstances would that be necessary? How did it happen? Grin.

Yep, booze was involved.

FuzzyPuffling · 07/02/2026 17:25

I could hang on to it for comfort!

The drone looks like a big spider chasing the luge.

I’d pay to watch a herd of giant spiders chasing them down the run, bit of added jeopardy.

Raahh · 07/02/2026 17:37

CaveMum I prefer Icy Death Slide.

Fuzzy- I didn't, but I do now Grin

Sure that was a character on neighbours. Did they name her that on purpose?

Dunno but it’s definitely a variety of tomato. And an onion 🧅🍅

FuzzyPuffling · 07/02/2026 17:42

I wish they'd stop saying "He has a mountain to climb".
The exact opposite, I'd say.

CaveMum · 07/02/2026 17:44

Is Andrew Cotter commentating at all these Games? I do love his videos with Olive and Mabel.

At some point somebody has obviously decided that you ordinary everyday sledging was a bit sedate. So they’ve decided to replace a snowy hill with a half tube of ice to speed things up a bit. I bet that involved booze as well.

But what would happen to them all at the bottom of the run? Swift exit by many of the spectators.

FuzzyPuffling · 07/02/2026 17:55

We would rather like it to be in the style of Red Bull Go Cart racing...a little dance at the top and the luge dressed up as a hot dog.

You wonder what they were on when they came up with the double luge

Igneococcus · 07/02/2026 18:02

Watching the luge takes me right back to my childhood and watching the Olympics with my Dad.

FuzzyPuffling · 07/02/2026 18:04

Combine luge with curling...rocks hurtling downwards at the speed of light. I'd watch that.
But God help the sweepers.

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/02/2026 18:05

Ooh I bet you could go really fast down there on those slidey curling shoes.

Ooh- now you could be onto something.

Although, in practice, the stones would just end up in a pile at the bottom.

Leaving the sweepers crushed Grin.

I'm starting to get creeped put by the drone.

I love Lizzie Yarnold...she explains it so well.

Nah, just need a bloke with a giant hoover.

stomachamelon · 07/02/2026 18:28

@RafaistheKingofClay my PE teacher partner and all round swot has just confirmed that is exactly the reason :)

HollyGolightly4 · 07/02/2026 18:35

This big air is fabulous!!

How do you decide you're going to throw yourself into the air?

Finally logged off and just sitting down to watch. I agree the Big Air is great,

I love the story of the half pipe competitor from Aus who replaced a withdrawal.

WillowTit · 07/02/2026 19:02

like skate boarding on the snow

BitterlyLemon · 07/02/2026 19:04

We’ve swapped to the red button for the ice skating as my kids love it - they are so young and have so much skill!

Kirschcherries · 07/02/2026 19:07

There are two competitors I want to do really well. Lindsey Vonn (DH) and Scotty James (Half Pipe)
