The snowboarders are falling all over the place! Getting up unhurt and with big smiles though. Good on them but at this rate, anyone who managed to stay upright will be on the podium.

I think that’s what happened!

What did Maddie Mastro do to make them say they were tearing up?

She was visualising her run, you could see her going through the various tricks and then she finished with a little relieved smile.

SabrinaThwaite · 12/02/2026 20:21

The short track speed skating is bonkers - when you see the angles of the tiny thin blades as they go round the corners it’s amazing that they stay on their feet.

HollyGolightly4 · 12/02/2026 20:33

The snowboard cross is bonkers! Enjoyed the short watch! V thrilling finish.

Raahh · 12/02/2026 20:44

Oof. Not a good day at the curling for the women.

ChippySauce · 12/02/2026 20:47

Thanks @SabrinaThwaite

I don't think I've ever seen so many falls on the half pipe.
Teen DC said is it because of the wrong type of snow 😄

I didn’t understand the Maddie enthusiasm. She fluffed it all 3 times. I had more respect for the Korean women. Most of them seemed to have an over ambitious run and should have had an easier one to warm up with

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 12/02/2026 21:00

May mentioned this before that l would rather watch paint dry than watch Curling.

It looks like a Winter Sports version of Crown Green Bowling for Pensioners who can bend their knees.

The only thing that impresses me is what sort of scrubber gadget is on the end of those poles.

Can l buy one? Fix my baked on pan and plate dried food debris in a jiffy. Top stuff!?!

Apparently her attitude is just lovely and she builds up all the other competitors!

This morning I got fed up with the BBC saying how unfair it was the Ukrainian guy couldn’t compete so had to leave after he refused to not wear his clearly political helmet. He had a choice. Switch helmets or go and chose to go. You don’t play chicken with the Olympic committee. The BBC then choosing to talk about him and his helmet not the race showed why this sort of clothing shouldn’t be allowed. It isn’t the X factor. The BBC do love to dig up sad stories about competitors though. If you haven’t had a tragedy you get ignored. Sad stories only

2Rebecca · 12/02/2026 21:04

She seemed quite arrogant the little we saw of her, saying this was her turn and she was fed up of being overshadowed ( some of this may have been BBC guys) and then it seemed obvious why she was overshadowed

Ermmm. The teams are hardly pensioners and they do a bit more than 'bend their knees'. Have you seen the arm muscles on the men?

2 gold for TeamNL in the short track

and silver earlier in the 5k long track

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/02/2026 21:40

We’ve managed a deletion on the winter Olympics thread?

I’m not sure having the images of your dead team mates on your helmet is political. Even if it is they don’t seem to have an issue with athletes having Russian flags on their helmets even when they banned Russia for killing said athletes.

Silverbirchleaf · 12/02/2026 21:40

Those short track races were exciting.

First gold medal for South Korea on the slopes

The BBC showed a clip of Kirsty Coventry talking about how she had gone to speak to him personally to try and resolve things - she was quite emotional about it.

I appreciated that.

Silverbirchleaf · 12/02/2026 22:00

Considering the helmet is illegal, they do keep mentioning it alot.

even when they banned Russia for killing said athletes.

If they banned every country each time it killed people it would be a pretty sparse competition. Probably just be Bhutan running around winning everything.

Isn’t that kind of the point? The hypocrisy. Banning Russia and not other countries is a political stance even if they only managed to do it on a technicality because Russia invaded Ukraine during a Winter Olympics.

The rule on athlete expression does seem to be fairly open to interpretation. It doesn’t seem like this is a straightforward case of the helmet being illegal.

It was mentioned up thread but if you enjoyed the ice dance I'd recommend Glitter and Gold on Netflix. 3 episodes following the 3 couples who made the podium (US, France and Canada) for the year leading up to the Olympics. It was interesting seeing behind the scenes and their personalities etc, added to my enjoyment watching them compete.

Thanks for this, I need something to watch on a plane in a few days - will have a look!

Anyone watching the curling?
