It's snowy, chilly, January (2026.) CORONATION STREET THREAD. **No spoilers please.**

The last thread filled up quickly! (2 weeks!) Shows Coronation Street is gaining popularity again. Smile (It has improved quite a bit lately!)

R.I.P. Billy Mayhew. Flowers

Todd continues to be manipulated by Theo, Summer has done some stellar sobbing (that's brought me to tears!) and it seems there's no-one to help poor Todd.

Not much has been seen of The Driscolls for a while. after the tragedy around Corriedale, and Billy the vicar dying. (I'm sure they're about somewhere!)

Lisa (Swain) is being manipulated by Undead Becky now, (from prison) and she's threatening to 'take her down with her' if she doesn't have her back! Not sure Carla wants Lisa back anyway after Lisa slept with Becky!

Poor Debbie is all over the place, trying desperately to defend evil Carl who has stolen from her, cheated on Abi, and caused all kinds of destruction with a car, (twice - and both times he's got away with it!)

Shona and David's new baby is in hospital for a while after being born prematurely, and Shona's sister has appeared suddenly! I guess we'll learn more about her, and why she and Shona have not seen each other for some years.

Sorry if I've left anything out. I'm sure we'll all catch up soon. Smile

How on earth has there been a hearing so quickly for her to get 12 years.

I wondered that too... She was only arrested a week ago! And she has had her hearing already, and got 12 years in jail!!! Whaaaaaaaaa?

I am not an expert in law, but surely this would never happen! A week! Shock

I was so sure I read she was in it until March.

They have just scrapped it

Not even the writers knew what was going on

The whole story was a bit of a clusterfuck wasn't it? 😆

Does ANYone know what the heck Undead Becky even did (to have to fake her death?) And what did she have over Costello? I wonder if I was half asleep some of the time, or did half of the Undead Becky bolloox not make sense???

And I still have so many questions!

I don't care enough to google it though. 😆

So no one knows what’s been happening the last what feels like 20 years??

even the writers couldn’t be arsed to write something

would they really put an undead cop in a general prison?

Shellingbynight · 12/01/2026 21:53

@SabreIsMyFave I'll have a go😆
Costello and Becky were investigating a big crime gang, and they appropriated some (all?) of money from the gang. Costello bought a house, Becky paid off her mortgage and went on holidays. The crime gang realised Becky had ripped them off and came after her, so she pretended she was dead, in collusion with Costello.

You know the rest, all the absolutely bollox when she undeaded herself. The end.

sorryIdidntmeanto · 12/01/2026 22:01

Oh that is helpful!

What about Tia something who was buried in Becky's coffin?

Was she murdered?

Oooh, someone's been concentrating! I wish I had.

In what world does someone go to their hearing/trial and get a sentence passed in about 12 hours?

eggandonion · 12/01/2026 22:58

Law stuff whether crime or property isn't well handled. I just ignore it all.
What will happen when Audrey or Lily come home and find a Shona lookalike there? Where is David the dog? He was there last week.

JellyBeanSpring25 · 13/01/2026 00:29

The visiting room and cells at Wethersfield prison are the same place for both men and women! Is it a mixed jail? And how do they get visiting orders so quick? Are Lou, Mick, Rob, Harvey, Damon and Clayton all still in there too?

HollywoodTease · 13/01/2026 03:31

Becky was reporting back to someone who wasn't Costello though I thought? Did she not keep leaving voicemail about all she wanted was her famileeeee?

stolenpromises · 13/01/2026 06:08

how did all of this involve Mason. What an absolute shambles of a story.

Freysimo · 13/01/2026 08:18

I was wondering how it involved Mason as well. Were his brothers members of the gang ( surely they weren't THE big crime gang) and are they both in prison now?

Shellingbynight · 13/01/2026 08:38

I stopped watching for several months, I know Mason's brothers were somehow involved with/knew about Becky's death so possibly knew she wasn't dead and it was Tia. I cba to wiki it and I am not convinced it would make sense if I did!

Andepeda · 13/01/2026 08:48

The whole thing's as clear as mud. Some people are waiting years for their cases to be heard, do dodgy, dead police officers jump the queue?

thenightsky · 13/01/2026 09:43

I thought Mason died because Dylan was carrying a knife. Where is Dylan by the way?

Shellingbynight · 13/01/2026 09:48

Yes, wasn't he trying to leave the area because his brothers knew he'd found out something about what they'd done, and one of them stabbed him with Dylan's knife. Dylan hasn't been seen for ages has he?

Yes and didn’t the brothers have some bits of evidence in the house that they “killed” Becky that Mason had found for Betsy? And that’s why Masons brother killed him with Dylan’s knife. Because they were worried they would go to jail for killing a police officer? None of it makes sense, because at the time I’m sure it was set out that Mason’s brothers definitely killed Becky. Or am I misremembering? The whole storyline is far too chaotic to follow.

Shellingbynight · 13/01/2026 09:57

That's the way I remember it but as you say it was confusing and I wasn't really paying full attention because I didn't care about Becky, Swain or the twatty brothers!

Well I just googled it for some clarity, and it’s still as clear as mud.
Becky was fake killed pursuing robbers in the line of duty. But the homeless girl was the one that was killed when Mason’s brothers committed a crime (it’s unclear if they knew the person they killed wasn’t Becky or if they believed it was really Becky). And I remember a scene where Costello implied/said the homeless girl was deliberately killed so Becky could escape. None of it makes sense, unless perhaps the brothers were paid to run over the homeless girl who had somehow been forced to be in the area. But why would the police go to such effort for Becky?? My brain hurts now!

That is actually quite helpful, thanks @Shellingbynight Smile You certainly make more sense than the show itself when it comes to this odd storyline!

However, with all the other bits people have added on and brought back up (that I had forgotten about) - including Mason's family member(s) in jail knowing something about Becky - my brain hurts again. So many bits and bobs were added to this storyline, until it barely made sense at all. I think we are all struggling to work it out 100%, even with googling it, because it flat out doesn't make sense. The writers screwed up and made a mess of the storyline and they couldn't fix it, so they've just cut it dead.

And the 'Becky getting her hearing and sentence within a week of being arrested' bit of the storyline is ludicrous. As I said, I am not law expert, but I am pretty much 100% sure that this wouldn't happen. If there is no trial (if they admit guilt,) it is always handled quicker than if there is a trial. But not a bloody week from the arrest!

I think Dylan went back to live with his mum. Possibly in that London.

Essentially Costello and Becky nicked the money from Masons brothers gang # BentCoppers
When Tia was run over by the brothers they faked Undead Beckys death to get the gang off their back and seemingly to stop the gang going after Lisa/ BetseyLamb not sure they knew Costello was involved
When Masons brothers were locked up for stabbing him, Undead Becky could then undead herself and come back
She made up the gang still being after her to get back with Lisa /Betsey
Undead Becky threatened Lisa about the mortgage money-saying no one would believe she didn't know it was dirty money
