It's all happening in the street!

Todd continues to be abused and manipulated by nasty Theo.

Carla is being kept hostage by evil Undead Becky the Bay City Roller! Lisa (Swain) is pining for Carla who she thinks has gone away on holiday, (but Lisa still did the deed with Undead Becky!) Hmm

Nasty Ma Driscoll has been turfed out of The Rovers Return by her son Ben, after her horrible Christmas day stunt of revealing to everyone that Eva has had an abortion.

Will Driscoll is jealous of Daniel 'dating' his attractive older woman (well, she's around 28, but is still older compared to him as he is still at school! And to make things worse she is his sports coach!)

Costello has been beaten up and is still in hospital.

Tall Kit and Sarah Platt are still an item.

Shona is not far off having hers and David Platt's baby.

DeeDee's left the show after conveniently being offered a high flying lawyer job in Singapore!

Carl, the Chuckle Brother has been getting down and dirty with James Bailey (again!) whilst Abi is totally oblivious. She is also oblivious to the fact that Carl is trying to find a way to move away from her (abroad) even though Abi has left Kevin for him (and took her son too!) Some may say it serves her right! 😬

Evelyn has come back again - hopefully for good this time!

I have probably missed some stuff! But we can catch up later! :)

@AmusedMaker the decision about Debbie really is absolutely baffling isn't it. She is one of the best characters/actors, with connections to quite a few others in the Street.

Ches was great as a child but nowadays he's just 'there'. Gemma really can definitely get in the bin.

Kirk used to get storylines 20 years ago, often with Maria, Fiz, Ty, but nowadays he just says a line in t'Rovers. If he left we wouldn't notice! So different to Tyrone who was a good character from the start and still is.

Yes I understand all soaps need ‘background’ characters that never feature very much and are just there to make up the numbers, ( so to speak ) and of course not every character can be center stage every few months - but I do wonder why they make the decisions they do? Debbie for example, she’ll be gone soon I imagine. She’s extremely popular.
maybe Kirk & Mary are too with millions of people. 😀
it’s not their fault of course, I’m sure they’d love a good juicy storyline.
I don’t think I’d notice if Fizz left.
I’ll definitely miss fit Kit if he ever leaves. Not just because he’s good looking, I really like the character.

Hmmm, if Mary and Kirk are popular with some people, I don't know who, because I think everyone I have spoken to would be happy to see them go! Obviously the programme makers/producers are happy for them to stay.

I would much rather they had gone, and Billy and Craigy - the cop - had stayed.

Also liking Kit more every time I see him. He is definitely a bit of eye candy too which helps. 😄

Yes, Debbie is a headscratcher all right. A very popular character, and a brilliant one, yet they gave her dementia! I don't know how the story is going to pan out with her now.

Maybe they will use her character to show how people can live with dementia for many years?

Agree with all of this. I would like Kirk & Mary to get given decent storylines - either one of them would be good for some sort of romantic storyline or scammer storyline.

I think that’s exactly why they’ve picked her character - so it really pulls at the heart strings because of how invested everyone is with the character and to show it can happen to the most unexpected people - even the ones that are very sharp and together like Debbie.
If you think of the celebrities in real life that have very sadly really had/have it, they’ve been very unexpected people like Barbara Windsor, Julie Goodyear, Pauline Quirke etc - they’ve all been larger than life people like Debbie’s character.

Shellingbynight · 07/01/2026 18:50

I know they have said that Debbie was chosen because she's so popular. But that is doubly bizarre. "Here's a really popular character, played by a good actress prepared to stick around for as long as we want her. So let's kill her off and watch her deteriorate in a horrible way". It's very short term thinking, like so many plots now. In a year's time (or whenever) Debs will be gone and that will be that.

Victoriaqueen · 07/01/2026 18:50

The producers possibly shove Kirk and Mary on screen occasionally to inject (what they believe) a bit of humour and lightheartedness amongst all the death and crime but it fails miserably imo as both K and M behave like idiots and Mary's "accidental" double entendres are pitiful.
The actors have to read the lines in their scripts which they may disagree with so it's the writers and whoever approves those scripts who deserve our scorn.

eggandonion · 07/01/2026 19:33

I hope Debbie is given a few years. My neighbour has been 'going downhill' certainly since 2022 when we were out and about post covid. She's increasingly confused...but still talking in a conversational way even though she's not following the conversation.
Her husband is very protective. He won't allow anyone to stay with her so he can have a break.

I hope Debbie and Ronnie are well portrayed.

Ches was only ever good with Schmeichel.

They need to replace Gemma with a Great Dane.

JewelleryCat · 07/01/2026 20:33

So who was that man?

Middlemarch123 · 07/01/2026 20:50

Brilliant acting by Jack P, he’s amazing.

Baby’s gonna be called Harper isn’t she?

RudolphTheReindeer · 07/01/2026 20:57

Why all the focus on the surgeon? Is he going to be a new permanent character or linked to someone already on the street?

the80sweregreat · 07/01/2026 20:59

Who was the one who was being horrible about Billy ?
Was that the surgeon or someone else ? I was only half watching at that point.
David is very blunt isn’t he! Makes me laugh. No filter

BrennieGirl · 07/01/2026 21:06

What was that said at the very end?

Yes, he was just some random who called in the cafe for a coffee and later turned out to be Shona's surgeon. Although if he was running late, why did he seek out a back street cafe on the way? And if he was in a rush to leave for his own birthday party, why did he waste time returning to the back street cafe?

nildesparandum · 07/01/2026 21:09

AmusedMaker · 07/01/2026 11:14

I still can’t understand why they got rid of Billy but keep characters like Kirk, Mary & Gemma? ( I personally can’t stand Shona for some reason so wouldn’t care if she left )
They sometimes give reasons like ‘ We couldn’t develop the character any further’ when getting rid of people. But Kirk & Mary have been irrelevant bores for years?

You are not aloneAmusedMaker about Shona. I cannot stand her either.

Yes couldn’t he buy a coffee at the hospital
