It's all happening in the street!

Todd continues to be abused and manipulated by nasty Theo.

Carla is being kept hostage by evil Undead Becky the Bay City Roller! Lisa (Swain) is pining for Carla who she thinks has gone away on holiday, (but Lisa still did the deed with Undead Becky!)

Nasty Ma Driscoll has been turfed out of The Rovers Return by her son Ben, after her horrible Christmas day stunt of revealing to everyone that Eva has had an abortion.

Will Driscoll is jealous of Daniel 'dating' his attractive older woman (well, she's around 28, but is still older compared to him as he is still at school! And to make things worse she is his sports coach!)

Costello has been beaten up and is still in hospital.

Tall Kit and Sarah Platt are still an item.

Shona is not far off having hers and David Platt's baby.

DeeDee's left the show after conveniently being offered a high flying lawyer job in Singapore!

Carl, the Chuckle Brother has been getting down and dirty with James Bailey (again!) whilst Abi is totally oblivious. She is also oblivious to the fact that Carl is trying to find a way to move away from her (abroad) even though Abi has left Kevin for him (and took her son too!) Some may say it serves her right! 😬

Evelyn has come back again - hopefully for good this time!

@buzz91 that's an interesting thought. But she told Kev that she had NO bruises, so it seems like she is concealing something. Either way it would take Ronnie seeing the marks to reveal the truth.

I wish they had given Billy a better exit, when Theo closed his seat belt again trapping him in the bus Billy could have grabbed him so that he burned with him, it would have served Theo right for being so evil and given Billy a chance to save Todd from him. I guess they want to get more mileage from the abuse storyline though.

I would rather it was not dragging on but I assume they did not want to close too many long running stories on one night.

While Billy was a character I didn't like much he could have had an exit and not died. Theo lives on and Todd is in for gawd knows how much more misery. Every time his face appears on screen I almost feel his pain. When Leo's smug mug appears I feel hatred 🙁

I totally agree. Every soap seems to have a resident buffoon and Kirk never seems to have a storyline (happy to be corrected) so is wheeled out now and then as is Mary.

Gemma and the quads oh what a stupid storyline which they could have done far better.

Perhaps Daniel Brocklebank was paid more than Andy Whyment and Patti Clare are. Getting rid of the Gemma character would need a big storyline unless they relieve us of Chesney and the children too. Is there no fingers crossed emoji?

Kirk and Mary are just background characters, they have not had a storyline of their own for many years and they are almost certainly on low end salaries.

Oh, I occasionally have contact with someone who has that kind of train of thought. He seems nice enough until he starts with the weird stuff in which he is totally convinced and the rest of us sheeples are stupid for not believing. Although when he met another one, with a slightly different but related belief - what a "nutter"! You couldn't make it up

I’ve actually read credible sounding articles online ) where they have said that chemtrails is happening, it’s costing counties millions and it’s blocking out the sun. Then I heard last week that it was the sunniest year on record ( in the uk)
Its hard to know if any of it is right or not.

I agree. She has 5 children including Joseph but seems to have so much time on her hands . . . And money to spend on any night out that’s going on, despite her and Chesney working minimum wage jobs. I’d be happy to see that family written out.

I would be very happy to see Ches and Gemma written out, they get far too much screentime. And the quads was such a stupid idea.

But Billy dying could give a lot of 'opportunities' for the writers in the sense that he was a character who affected practically everyone on the Street, so there will be a big sense of shock. Whereas if Chesney went, no one would care, I doubt even Fiz would notice, although obviously a lot of us would have a party 🎉

I have it in my emojis in my phone but also in my tablet which I use for posting on Mumsnet. Don't know what device you use or what editing system you have 🫤

I mostly post on my laptop and there the emoji selection is hit and miss so I often go to emojipedia and copy and paste (like the party one above).

Yes to all of this. If I recall correctly, the quads came along just before the covid pandemic, and then they had 4 new babies they could do naff-all with, as hardly anyone was allowed on set!!! They do have lovely Welsh names, but the idea was a turkey, as it's so hard to keep up with having 4 babies/toddlers/infants on set... (Even when there isn't a pandemic!)

So yes, Gemma and the elusive quads can get in the bin . I don't mind Chesney and Jorzef staying, as I like Chesney and he has a history/a link to someone else in the street who has been in it for 25 years - Fiz - and he's been in it 22 years himself. But Gemma and her gurning face and revolting habits can go!

And yes, Mary is boring and tedious and needs to go too IMO. She used to make me smile, now she just makes me roll my eyes.

And as I (and you and several others have said,) Kirk is a pointless character and wouldn't be missed IMO. The daft buffoon act is tired now and it's not endearing or funny.

I would have said Bernie to go too about a year ago, but she's grown on me. I still think her and Dev are an odd pairing though.

Also Summer. I felt she was a shit character but she has been really good recently. Just a nice, sensible, kind young woman. There should be more young like this in Corrie, they don't all need to be dickheads/thugs/bullies/criminals etc. In all honesty, more young folk are like Summer. Just ordinary nice young people...

I'm even warming to Betsy a bit (yikes!) Although I wouldn't cry if she and Lisa left. I can't see Lisa and Carla coming back from Lisa getting jiggy with Undead Becky though. So I don't see how the Carla-Lisa story can go forward...

Yes I understand all soaps need ‘background’ characters that never feature very much and are just there to make up the numbers, ( so to speak ) and of course not every character can be center stage every few months - but I do wonder why they make the decisions they do? Debbie for example, she’ll be gone soon I imagine. She’s extremely popular.

I’ll definitely miss fit Kit if he ever leaves. Not just because he’s good looking, I really like the character.

I like the approach in Eastenders where they have long term background characters who never have a story or much to do like Winston, Tracey, Shrimpy etc. and then fewer main characters. But I do wonder how much those actors get paid and how they make a living?! Do they have other jobs?

I doubt they have other jobs, (most of them) as even the lowest paid salaried regulars in Corrie would be on £40K to £50K or so. And I imagine they live up North (or closeby) so their housing shouldn't be too much - compared to people down south. I think they do public appearances now and again though. I remember my cousin going to see Jason Grimshaw (Adam Thomas) at the opening of a cocktail bar or something - some years back now - and I think he got about £2000 for doing it.

I think (after hearing from someone who was in the business once) that the lesser spotted characters and newbies and the young ones (under 21) get so much per show. (Between £400 and £800.) So if they're not in it a lot (say only 33 shows in one year,) they may only get £20K to £22K for the year. So they may need to get extra work.

Once someone is in it fairly regularly though, they will be on a 'yearly salary.' (And will receive that whether they're in 33 episodes a year or 133.) It will very likely be quite a bit more than £20K though, probably 2-3 times more... Some months they may be in many more episodes for that same salary, and be working more hours, but the salary is more, and is guaranteed.

And the longer they are in it/the older they get, the more it will increase. EG, David (Jack P Shepherd) is on £250K a year. Tracy too (Kate Ford.) She is on about £250K a year as well.
