The Christmas special of call the midwife is on bbc 1 in 2 parts again. The first part is on at 20:15 on Christmas day and the second part is on at 20:30 on boxing day. I am not a fan of the Christmas special been in 2 parts. I wonder how doctor Turner and his simpering wife will save the world.

Thanks. It's not what it was but I will still watch. Hadn't seen this before (or equally likely, I had and had forgotten).

From Wikipedia:

In May 2025, the BBC announced that a Call the Midwife feature film is in development. The film will be set in 1972, the calendar year following the events of series 15 [the one about to start in Jan 2026], and will feature characters from the existing television series. Details about the plot and cast have not been fully revealed, but it is confirmed that "iconic characters from the existing TV show" will appear.[6][51]

Alongside the film, a prequel spin-off series has also been announced. The prequel will explore the lives of midwives in Poplar, east London, during the Second World War, specifically the Blitz. According to showrunner Heidi Thomas, the series will feature "some familiar (if much younger) faces," offering a deeper look into the past of characters already known to viewers.

Really, really milking this, aren't they!

FionnulaTheCooler · 18/12/2025 16:46

According to my Christmas TV Guide, Trixie's annoying brother features heavily in the new episodes 🙄.

TheNightingalesStarling · 18/12/2025 16:46

Isn't the Christmas special in Hong Kong?

My money is them coming back to the UK with Mays younger sibling

DarkEyedSailor · 18/12/2025 16:48

I'm waiting for them to get into the 80s so Dr "Grimace is my only facial expression" Turner and his wetwipe wife can discover and cure AIDS.

KittyHigham · 18/12/2025 16:48

They are heading to save Hong Kong @NimbleHiker 🙄

Oh no, how can you say that!

I am a simpering fan and love them, no matter what they do.

I really wish they wouldn't do these overseas specials. Poplar itself is central to my enjoyment.
But it looks like only Fred and Vi and the saintly Turners are going to Hong Kong, so hopefully there will enough other stuff to keep me happy.

Some of them are going but i think that a few of the midwives are staying in London.

They'll be shocked, then heartened, then humbled by the experience. Nuns will say something humorous/profound/delete as applicable and then someone will have a personal problem that they keep hidden until they collapse/break down/lose their religion/run away/delete as applicable and some simpering nurses will look after them with pursed lips and a soaring musical score.

I used to love it, but it's dreadful now.

They just annoy me. My favourite character is nurse Crane.

I am looking forward to the prequel but i am not looking forward to the film. I didn't enjoy the downton abbey films even though i liked the series.

An hour to go....
I wish it was on now.
I'm tired and want to go to bed 😁

Since when did Violet have a son in HK?

Toddlerteaplease · 25/12/2025 20:24

And Sr j should know better than to mention the Q word. No nurse ever says it.

Her son was mentioned once in series 4. I have forgotten what he did at the time as he hasn't had another mention until tonight.

I am finding this boring. I need to go back and watch the first ones again. There seems to be a lot less emphasis on what it was centred around. Birth!

Toddlerteaplease · 25/12/2025 20:52

Yes and too many story lines

Toddlerteaplease · 25/12/2025 21:10

It’s December and snowing and none of the kids have coats on?!

EchoedSilence · 25/12/2025 21:16

Dr Turner will sort the Triad out.

I have lost track of all the storylines.

Back in the day I wore one of those Brownie dresses....very thin material. Hope they had good vests on.
(who does a carnival at Christmas 🤔)

Needmorelego · 25/12/2025 21:24

Well that was ok but I think they should have just done the Hong Kong story and not jumped back and forth between the two settings.
They didn't seem to match.
Hong Kong = serious storyline
Poplar = typical jolly East End Christmas.
