I love this series, one of my all time favourites and a new series starts on Thursday. Lovely feel good tv, and a real sign of Autumn when a new one lands.

Anyone else?

Oh thank you. Unfortunately, he may well be a prisoner of the Japanese.

Oh surely not, that would be very dark indeed. Poor Tristan!

Clawdy · 04/10/2025 08:09

Yes, in the first film James wasn't Scottish, and Helen was incredibly posh!

Clawdy · 04/10/2025 08:09

Think Simon Ward played James.

In both films, and in the original series, Helen was far too posh, but Simon Ward was particularly miscast.

I hope not, but when Maggie said "Burma" it made me think.

I’m glad I’ve found this thread 🙂 I really enjoy watching this on a Thursday and how it’s so cosy, love the animals and all the characters gel with each other. I’ve not seen the original so I can’t comment on that

MyOtherProfile · 04/10/2025 10:43

I think Arthur will come back and Tristan will finally find someone else.

Letmeoutodhere · 04/10/2025 11:14

What happened to Arthur anyway?

Last known whereabouts, Burma.

My attention wandered a bit during tonight's episode but I did laugh a couple of times. Mostly I reflected on how much better my life would be if I had a Mrs Hall to cook, clean, tidy and do laundry for me.

Clawdy · 09/10/2025 22:09

Watching tonight, was just thinking “That girl looks just like Emma Thompson” and then found out it’s her daughter!

I knew it. Was the tilt of the head and the eyes that alerted me

My DH has just said that we need a Mrs Hall 😂

olderandnonthewiser · 09/10/2025 22:16

Oh she did look like Emma Thompson!
I enjoyed tonight’s episode but this series is lacking something the previous ones had. Can’t really put my finger on it, but James is just a bit of a comic character with little substance, Helen is always sitting down or hiding her (real life) pregnancy behind something , and Siegfried is becoming a bit of a caricature of himself.

I think it's stalled a bit - there's not enough character development or focus on the animals. That being said, I still love it and am hoping that Seigfried and Mrs H do get together - and if she doesn't want him then I'll happily have him!

onceuponatimeinneverland · 09/10/2025 22:47

So what do we think Tristan did to get the MC ?

I quite liked tonight's episode, Tricky, a poodle, horses, posh people, misunderstandings.

I did keep shouting that they should get another vehicle .

And who was on call if James was supposed to be at the pictures and Seigfried and Tristan at the party?

I can't see Siegfried and Mrs H getting it on, frankly. It's not that sort of relationship. I could be wrong.

eggandonion · 09/10/2025 23:26

Will there be puppies next week?

FleurDeFleur · 10/10/2025 07:28

I laughed quite a bit, all the Tricki scenes were brilliant, Mrs Pumphrey wanting James to talk to Tricki about the birds and the bees! Patricia Hodge is just wonderful in that role.
Plus, Siegfried and the air cello!

FleurDeFleur · 10/10/2025 07:31

I was frustrated they said "Boh - voir" though, up here the name (family and estates) are "Bee - ver".
Plus, Emma Thompson jnr doing a languid society beauty I thought was going to be boring, but there is a back story.

So funny. Mrs Pumphrey and Mr Bolton so snobbish about their dogs! Very funny scene.

JoeTheDrummer · 13/10/2025 11:33

I agree that Siegfried is becoming a caricature. I know he’s supposed to be irascible and eccentric, but in this series he’s mainly been just plain awful. The formula seems to be that he’s an arse for 95% of the episode, then we have a final brief scene of him being nice!

Do you mean Belvoir pronounced as "Bee ver"?

The surname in this was Beauvoir so it was surely pronounced correctly?

No, I mean that the house and family that I know of are called Beauvoir, and pronounce it "Bee-vor" (or perhaps "Bee-ver" as you say).
Just a point of curiosity.

My misunderstanding.

I was thinking of Belvoir Castle.

Although of course Belvoir isn't also their surname so if I had paid more attention I would have realised that you didn't mean them!
