Anyone planning on watching this?

Rob Brydon hosts as contestants are driven around Europe in a blacked out bus, trying to guess where they are. I’ve seen clips of the US Version, it might be good!

I suppose though that's part of the game dynamic. It would be harder to eliminate people if it were obvious they were in Paris and everyone clicked on that region of France. Even if they knew they were in Alsace and had driven 5 hours from there, they could be in several countries.

Knew the cathedral was French, and had spotted 'Lorraine' but none of the other clues. Unsure how Deborah got so confused: didn't she win the clues because she was picking france? Or was she guessing randomly and happened to be more right than others?

I don’t understand how she saw Colmar and still put Austria!
Just searched and the US version does not always end up in capital cities.

TheSpottedZebra · 30/07/2025 22:27

It probably doesn't help, but the USA locations were not all capitals. But they were places that pretty much everyone would have heard of.

RainSoakedNights · 30/07/2025 22:21

I bet it was the second!!

I knew it was France because they showed a sign with French and German, and then mentioned something about a border. Then they showed mbappe and de bruyne so I knew it had to be France 🤣

Scratch that, they showed the map and Belgium is right up with Luxembourg 😭

SwedishEdith · 30/07/2025 22:28

Popfan · 30/07/2025 22:23

I watched this, it was OK. I'd have liked there to be more of the locations being shown to both us and the contestants... it was mostly filmed on a bus and I felt they could have just been in a studio for the whole thing. Surely if they let them out in various villages, by rivers, mountains whatever it would still be hard to guess and they could still have the odd clue. It's billed as a travel game show but we saw very little of the places they travelled through!

Yes, I was hoping we'd see more of the countries.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/07/2025 22:13

I think so. There were clues it was Paris in the Box of tricks. I got pulled away and missed a bit. Not everyone would know Alsace but everyone knows Paris

DS guessed Alsace straight away. We've never been there but he has a weird map obsession!

VivienneDelacroix · 30/07/2025 22:30

I agree with everyone's confusion and criticism. It's just so random. No need to be on the bus at all, could be in a studio. Why are they given clues about where they are in the middle of the programme and then expected to randomly guess where they travel to after that.
We got Alsace, but not Paris. See couldn't even tell which direction they were traveling from Mulhouse. Stupid.

the80sweregreat · 30/07/2025 22:35

At least the ones on ‘ race across the world ‘ they can move around and get on, stuck on that coach would drive me mad tbh! Especially if your not getting on !

BotterMon · 30/07/2025 22:35

Nope not for me. Far too slow and too much plagiarism of other programmes.

Pretty obvious it was Alsace. Guess those chosen to appear on the show aren't terribly well travelled.

bizzey · 30/07/2025 22:38

Sorry for the stupid question...but I am still confused 😕..

Were they meant to put their X on Pris then ?

PuppyMonkey · 30/07/2025 22:40

NCTDN · 30/07/2025 22:12

That was for @PuppyMonkey

… all the clues except for the random ones like Emily in Paris walking past. Confused

flightoftheconkers · 30/07/2025 22:44

Well, that was slightly irritating - the edit, the music, the tasks - and we didn't see much of the countries they travelled through. I guessed Alsace-Lorraine but haven't heard of Colmar and clearly that clue didn't help Debbie at all. Not sure why the other guy didn't want to see the clue in the box. What's the logic of the destination being Paris?

I wonder if the guy who left early couldn't face the sleeping arrangements!

Diddlydays · 30/07/2025 22:49

Ok I don't get it. Why did we spend all our time focusing on Alsace if we had to guess the location they then drove to. What was the point of Alsace ?

I think (might not be right), to give a good place to guess, so that you’re in the right country? And therefore not furthest away

Diddlydays · 30/07/2025 23:15

Alsace borders Germany. Will the destination always be in the same country or just within a radius of it. As if they had travelled the same distance in another direction they could've been in Lichtenstein (which would be bloomin hard to guess)

KassandraOfSparta · 30/07/2025 23:36

If they had driven the 5 hours from Alsace to Paris, they could also be in Milan, loads of western Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Brussels.

But putting your X on Strasbourg wouldn't see you eliminated as that is the centre of your 5 hour drive circle rather than putting it on Austria which is the other side of the circle, iyswim.

I would absolutely hate being in such close proximity to everyone, with nowhere to go to get a bit of distance from them. I'd also hate those narrow beds with the curtains, I'd be claustrophobic. And those vision things make me feel sick, so overall being on this would be my worst nightmare!

This!! SO annoying. And they didn't even tell us where all of the others had guessed?! Argh. It's like they've taken all the worst parts of RATW and the worst parts of the Traitors and ignored what made both of those programmes so watchable.

Plasticwaste · 31/07/2025 04:15

Watched this as a Race Across the World alternative but it's all a bit convoluted. Mainly, as PP mention, because you're shown somewhere halfway through the episode, but then you're whisked away a whole 500km so the ID game becomes fairly irrelevant. They could have been in Italy by then - or do they need to travel within the same country?

Not very clear or satisfying. Rob B also smug and smarmy.

Guy who left after a day wasted everyone's time. Even his job annoyed me - "content creator" - bah!

the80sweregreat · 31/07/2025 05:51

I don’t find Rob Brydon smug at all on this. Not so far anyway.. maybe by episode ten if I last that long ! ..
What was the point of the twins ? Do they wear the glasses things if they stop for some fresh air or when the coach is cleaned and have a food delivery?
They seemed to be parked up in the middle of a square in a town , surely this wasn’t as it seemed as how do you get such a large coach there ? It could have been filmed anywhere, but it just looked odd at times like a film set, but maybe it was just a coach park area in a town ?
Don’t like Nick much. I feel this competitive side might be annoying, but then it is a game show tbf.
I miss coach trip , I did love that show!

Powerpuff2 · 31/07/2025 06:50

Is this suitable for a 10 year old or was it very sweary!

PuppyMonkey · 31/07/2025 07:16

@Powerpuff2 I can’t say I noticed any swearing. Your 10 yo might have more luck understanding it than us lot. Grin

Powerpuff2 · 31/07/2025 07:20

@PuppyMonkey It sounds like😁
She heard it was like race across the world and the traitors, she might be disappointed!!

I watched it with my 5 and 9 year, my 9 year old liked it (she loves traitors and RATW too!)

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2025 07:43

Well, this was a hot mess really. It was very chaotic. Not sure how anyone could have got Paris but certainly they could have guessed at France.

There is a pilot there, for goodness sake and a few of them seem bright enough (certainly Mr Marathon Runner thinks he is terribly clever). They paid no attention to the Irish girl who kept saying stuff about French signs in the market.

There were so may red herrings in the clues (although the programme is heavily edited obviously) that I can see why they didn't specifically know Paris but I have no clue why they were all so set on Austria when neither of the two footballers were Austrian. They seemed to very quickly forget what they were told.

My DH has excellent general knowledge and geography knowledge but hadn't heard of Colmar (I had) but he knew the town they stopped in was Alsace - I have a feeling if they guy had looked at the clue himself and they had discussed it, they'd still be none the wiser. No one seemed to know or twig a German Shepherd is also an Alsatian . Again, the Irish girl asked if there are any parts of France where they might speak in dialects and no one said anything. That aside, though, I would have guessed Strasbourg so I have no idea how they were meant to know they had got to Paris after their stop in Mulhouse.

I guess it's more disorientating than we are understanding and they were in constant panic.

I don't get how anyone thought this programme made good viewing for us at home. Disappointing, BBC!
