Anyone planning on watching this?

Rob Brydon hosts as contestants are driven around Europe in a blacked out bus, trying to guess where they are. I’ve seen clips of the US Version, it might be good!

I couldn’t do the show either, not just because I’d be crap at the clues but because if the windows are blocked out I’d be terribly travel sick 🤮

NCTDN · 31/07/2025 12:30

I honestly expected to see more of the outside than we did. Things like pylons can give really good clues as to the country.

the80sweregreat · 31/07/2025 12:38

Oh yes, love the internet for looking up random things like pylons ! They are a different design in France.

NCTDN · 31/07/2025 13:00

Do you think they travel through the night?
I am that sad I’ve just reached the second part of the that episode again. Someone even called the dog an Alasation! I still would never have worked out the final place was Paris having been in the Alsace.

SwedishEdith · 31/07/2025 13:26

Water towers in France are very distinctive as well. And those green and white striped exist signs, like plastic bins, on motorways.

NeverAlways · 31/07/2025 11:51

I also didn’t get why the answer was Paris when the main clue was from Alsace. Very odd. Maybe it will be clearer as the show progresses.

I think, and could be wrong, that although a lot of people here identified Alsace, the coach didn’t stop there and kept moving so the main clue to take away was France not Alsace, as well as an idea of how far they’d moved on since.

Is it just me or does the whole thing seem a bit off. At one point I was convinced they were all just actors and it was all scripted and staged. The inside of the bus looks like it’s flimsy and set in a studio. Once I saw it - I couldn’t un-see it and now I feel like I’m going mad …

KassandraOfSparta · 31/07/2025 14:12

It's certainly not as engaging as the Traitors or Race Across the World.

That was Mulhouse they stopped in where the German was on the church door and the lady was speaking Alsatian French- German.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/07/2025 14:34

@Piggywaspushed I need to rewatch the second half as I got pulled away, but yes, seems confusing 🫤

Watch the first episode from the start and very early on you will hear Rob Bryson say something along the lines of - ‘ I fell in love’ near the start of a sentence. Answer is here already - Eiffel and Paris is the city of love. He also mentioned breakfast of coffee and croissants and they showed a couple having afternoon tea and the cakes were ParisBrest cakes.
Clue for tonight is a multifunction knife - so this gives us the country.

Longingforspringtime · 31/07/2025 14:58

I think that Alsace gave a perfect opportunity for confusion with the local language and signs in both French and German. I recognised it straight away as my grandmother was from there and spoke the language. I was confused when they ended up in Paris though. We were told how many kilometres the journey was, miles would be better, so I suppose I should have added that in rather than assume that the X was in Alsace.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 31/07/2025 14:59

I watched it and didn't think much of it. There was no need for them to actually travel anywhere because they saw so little.

placemats · 31/07/2025 15:04

This is TV pace only @Longingforspringtime please don't put spoilers in.

slightlydistrac · 31/07/2025 15:49

I ended up watching this by sheer accident last night and I'm not sure what to think yet. Maybe I'll need to watch it again before deciding whether I like it or not.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2025 14:31

That was Mulhouse they stopped in where the German was on the church door and the lady was speaking Alsatian French- German.

Was it definitely Mulhouse? We thought it was Colmar, because at one point we saw one of the famous patterned roofs and there was all the stuff about Alsace-Lorraine etc. And then the secret clue was a Statue of Liberty with Colmar on the bottom (the sculptor was born in Colmar and there's a version there). What was that about? I assumed it was saying 'You were in Colmar before we drove you 5 hours away to Paris'.

The whole thing is very baffling and I agree they are not showing enough of the places.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2025 16:29

He said at the end that they had stopped in Mulhouse. That's the only reason I knew that precisely!

BestIsWest · 31/07/2025 16:43

So what was the point of the extra clue with the Statue of Liberty and Colmar? Just to show they were in France? Why Colmar though?

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2025 16:44

It was one of the Statues of Liberty replicas mentioned. It was the one they were closest to.

AnnPerkins · 31/07/2025 16:44

Then I'm even more baffled.

Presumably they don't tell the people on the coach where X was each time so they can get more and more lost as they go on? Not sure why we can't know their guesses though.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2025 16:47

You good just about see most of them . Most of them went somewhere west of Vienna. Taxi guy went for Italy.

KassandraOfSparta · 31/07/2025 17:05

that's where they're trying to build the tension with tactics - are you going to tell others your theory or keep it to yourself? Will they listen to you anyway...

BestIsWest · 31/07/2025 17:20

I understood what it was but I don’t understand why! I’m missing the point of everything in the Alsace region I think. If it was just to tell them they were in France, why Colbert? I'm sure it’ll all become clear.
Rob B had some natty jackets.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/07/2025 18:14

I’m rewatching the second half now as I missed some last night. It’s definitely very confusing
