Haha. Yeah I’ve just read that full post now.

Very funny, but also a bit disturbing.

I think whoever has written this is has had one too many snifters.

Pot, kettle

No you're right, there was a TV show, something like "Making Your Mind Up". I remember Daz Sampson winning it with Teenage Life and then Scooch with Flying The Flag. I'd have been 11 or 12, maybe. Used to love that!

It was one of those shows that chose Embers a few years ago. Sam wasn't chosen by public vote. We just need to get people who are more tuned in to Eurovision to do the selecting!

RedToothBrush · 18/05/2025 01:04

GreenApplesRedApplesYellowApples · 18/05/2025 01:02

I was thinking that. I wonder why they allowed that.

Yes very much so. That's why they did it apparently. But given Estonia beat Sweden in their semi too, I don't think running order has mattered as much as you might think.

@RedToothBrush hosts the Eurovision thread every year, save one and her absence was felt.

But that diatribe is exactly why in my opinion Israel should have won. They got saved by Austria.

Oh yeah, I don't think it should return from a success perspective as our choices were all unilaterally shit. 12 year old me listened to Flying The Flag on repeat for months though so I can't hate it too much 🤣

I reckon we send Sam Ryder back for another crack at it 😍

GreenApplesRedApplesYellowApples · 18/05/2025 01:07

Well she wasn't absent, but she didn't run it. So respect to her, for making it such fun every year, particularly for those of us who don't have family members who enjoy Eurovision and are maybe on their own.

Thank you @RedToothBrush

EmmaRose25 · 18/05/2025 01:09

Apologies if it's been discussed already but was anybody affected by the flashing lights? I found them excessive this year, daughter had to leave the room.

The girls we sent this year were good. The song was awful.

DH pointed out in a televote you rarely vote for your second fav song. You only vote for your fav.

This year I don't think there was a real stand out tune that everyone loved. They were meh compared to other years. So I think the number of votes cast this year is likely to be down.

There wasn't much voting going on at Redtoothbrush Towers - in previous years there has.

Absolutely. I live on my own and it's so nice to have the company of fellow fans.

Definitely excessive however it does enable me to tell my neurologist that lights aren't a seizure trigger because I was fine. Big headache now though, I wonder if that's why?!

Yes. I had to close my eyes for Austria and also for one in the semis.... can't remember the country but the song was "don't mention my name" or something. Not pleasant.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/05/2025 01:13

@IsraelWillPrevial as a woman with Jewish antecedents who is more sympathetic to Israel than to Hamas, your post is inappropriate and spectacularly unhelpful on this thread.

You need to apologise to @RedToothBrush.

If you have nothing better to do than advance search people your views are not welcome.

I am shocked by your comments and you have shown yourself up. For that reason I hope your post is not deleted.

Latvia?! Good grief. Really strange televoting this year!

How are Israel even allowed to perform? Never mind be voted for. How the fuck did we give them twelve points? What is going on?

One of the main sponsors of Eurovision is Moroccanoil which, despite its name, is an Israeli owned company. That's why.

If Israel had won it would probably be the end of Eurovision as we know it. I imagine if they tried to host many countries simply wouldn't go. Fans wouldn't go. And who would be prepared to step in and do it on their behalf like we did with Ukraine.

If it seemed political this year how much worse would it be if Israel had won. Maybe the EBU should be rethinking their voting system again.

I’ve never voted
Ive heard you can vote 20 times
Can you vote 20 times for your one favourite or do you have to vote differently each time

That is a shock too. I thought Austria had won that. I certainly hadn't expected Austria to have been beaten by Greece.

EmmaRose25 · 18/05/2025 01:17

I think one vote per person is sufficient.

I think giving less weight to the viewers votes would
prevent all the political voting perhaps.
Appreciate that’s not going to be a popular opinion,

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 18/05/2025 01:18

Just to finalise, people upset about the atrocities carried out by Israel don’t actually hate Jews. The lazy anti-semetism argument is wearing really thin.

BreezyBertha · 18/05/2025 01:19

LoneRangecooker · 18/05/2025 00:54

Sorry to all the Eurovision lovers. I’m just reacting to blatant Jew hatred that exploded in response to Israel achieving something truly wonderful.

Anyway I’m out.

A year and a half ago, they tried to kill her.
Tonight, Yuval Raphael took second place in Eurovision.

Mazel Tov, Yuval. "If you will it, it is no dream" 🇮🇱💙🤍

Here, here. She has a beautiful voice and it is a beautiful song. Such a brave young woman. She won basically, the public spoke again for the 2nd year running. The jury votes never reflect it being a best song contest anymore hence Austria getting such high votes.

I only came on here to laugh at the fury of the anti~Israel echo chamber. Tying themselves up in knots with the delusion that the wider public in RL thinks the same as them and so it must be rigged.

You are wrong!

Was the public vote for Albania rigged too?

Considering there are a tiny number of Jewish people in Europe and Israel comparative to the combined population of other 36 countries who took part, even if they did all vote 20 times each, I dare say quite a few non Jewish people voted for Israel as well.

Proud to be British. Just shows the anti-Israel hate on this board is not reflective of the general population.
