The whole contest needs to be stripped back to basics again. It's all too hyper and over the top now.

Watch Eurovision from the 1980's for example. So much simpler and just a stage and a microphone and orchestra. None of this staging. All about the music and countries having to sing in their own language.

I feel like it'd turn into a dirge fest. We need the saunas etc to keep it interesting.

Yes bring back the orchestra

@RedToothBrush you've done a brilliant job keeping the threads on track and focused on what Eurovision should be about - music, a bit of a laugh, eye rolling at political voting and, of course, singing opera on a pretend boat.

💯

LoneRangecooker · 18/05/2025 00:54

Sorry to all the Eurovision lovers. I’m just reacting to blatant Jew hatred that exploded in response to Israel achieving something truly wonderful.

Anyway I’m out.

A year and a half ago, they tried to kill her.
Tonight, Yuval Raphael took second place in Eurovision.

Mazel Tov, Yuval. "If you will it, it is no dream" 🇮🇱💙🤍

Completely agree

I'll be interested to see the results of the second semi final.

People like you will never help the view on the issues between Isreal and Palestine. All religions have medieval views, every single one of them. Religion is the root of many conflicts, there is no right side and only people suffer for it. This sort of vitriol is exactly why politics should be kept out of the ESC.

ArtTheClown · 18/05/2025 00:55

You're a fan of both Art and Eurovision. Could I tentatively suggest we be friends?

It's certainly quite specific common ground 😁 i think we'll have to be!

Still waiting on that. This is the grand final. It looks like it was a low voting yeah by the public tbh. The songs didn't inspire the public in the same as previous years.

Yes. Precisely. It makes a huge difference but in general the UK just doesn’t care/bother enough. Like sure we care right now, but how many people actually watch or pay attention to the selection of the act? Or learn anything about them more than a week before the event? Or even think about Eurovision outside of the actual night?

I’m sure I remember years ago we’d have a few acts brought out that the public would vote to put forward for Eurovision? It used to be much more of a thing. Or maybe I’m just imagining it ?

No, I’m a lot more eloquent.

Also, everything I say is factually correct. So…

Crikey,I wasn’t expecting that from what I thought was a lighthearted thread ..am in bed now. I have absolutely no opinion with the politics, just enjoyed the show.

RedToothBrush · 18/05/2025 00:58

Austria didn't get 12 PTS from any country in the public vote.

No you're right. And before that they chose an artist and the public voted for the song.

Haha. Yeah I’ve just read that full post now.

Very funny, but also a bit disturbing.

I think whoever has written this is has had one too many snifters.

Outrageistheopiateofthemasses · 18/05/2025 01:00

@IsraelWillPrevial wow. Did you really type all that venomous bile out and then call someone else savage? Hardly the words of a civilised person or the actions of a civilised or decent nation. Anyway I have reported your hateful and horrid rant.

Just wow!

OublietteBravo · 18/05/2025 01:01

Do you think the vote being open from the beginning removes the advantage of a late position in the running order? e.g. Estonia were No.3, Israel No. 4 and Ukraine No. 7

EmmaRose25 · 18/05/2025 01:01

I have reported that dreadful post too.

No you're right, there was a TV show, something like "Making Your Mind Up". I remember Daz Sampson winning it with Teenage Life and then Scooch with Flying The Flag. I'd have been 11 or 12, maybe. Used to love that!

I was thinking that. I wonder why they allowed that.

RedToothBrush · 18/05/2025 01:02

Can we just report and not comment on those trying to ruin this, for politics please?

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence it started last year when the host country (Sweden) drew the No 1 spot in the running order!
