As I posted further up, I saw several posts on Facebook about voting for Israel and there was one that I saw that told people to vote more than once. It was definitely manipulated. The song wasn’t even that good.

It was bad. Last year's was better and that was also not great.

GreenApplesRedApplesYellowApples · 18/05/2025 00:13

What could the UK do better for next year?

Maybe Sophie Ellis Bextor needs to do it?

OublietteBravo · 18/05/2025 00:32

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2025 00:30

Voting should be restricted to participating countries only

It is (well, there is rest of the world too, but only for televote and only equivalent to one country)

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 18/05/2025 00:31

I think this is the problem - lovely but didn't stand out, the staging was so simple so there was no gimmick to make it memorable.

It was very similar staging to Viola, which came second. I think it just wasn't a standout song like Viola, but definitely deserved more votes.

WinterKitchen · 18/05/2025 00:28

They got at least one vote. Mine. They must round them up or something. I voted by phone and got an acknowledgement.

Yea of course they’re rounded up. A country getting 173 points doesnt mean 173 people voted. ALL the votes in each voting country are totalled up and the top ranked country gets 12points, 2nd gets 10, 3rd 8 etc etc. that is done in each of the 37 countries.

so the most points a country COULD potentially score from each of the jury or public votes rounds. Is 432 points. Which equates to getting 12 points from all of the other countries.

footpath · 18/05/2025 00:34

@RedToothBrush thanks for your wit

Oh give it a rest. The whole world is increasingly seeing Israel’s true colours so no matter how much you post, you’re not going to change anyone’s opinion apart from confirm what we all already know.

No YOU give it a rest.

What the public are tired and really fed up of is loud, obnoxious, ill-informed, ignorant, hateful people taking over our streets every weekend and terrorising both the Jewish community and normal, decent people.

It hasn’t freed Palestine yet, has it? Because a movement propelled by hatred will alway fail.

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2025 00:34

The voting is too complicated

BurntBroccoli · 18/05/2025 00:35

GreenApplesRedApplesYellowApples · 18/05/2025 00:28

Well they shouldn't play with fire then.

Agree. I think it should be restricted to one vote per person to stop all this 20 votes thing.

Re join Europe

We would still be unpopular 😆

The UK is still in Europe.

footpath · 18/05/2025 00:36

I think it was obvious what that poster meant....

That was too stressful. I’d put a load of money on Sweden going top five, so I nearly had a heart attack when they flopped in the public vote. Then Israel nearly winning the thing Shock

I was backing Sweden and Estonia, but I’m delighted that Austria won now. Also delighted that Estonia did so well (if they’d lost the contest to Israel by one point I would have been furious!) but disappointed that Sweden didn’t do as well as expected (fourth is still good of course).

Not disappointed at the UK for getting nil points - terrible song. Happy that the Iceland boys got 33 in the public vote after getting zero from the jury (I loved their song). And surprised at Malta only getting 8(?) points - it did feel like Austria had massively stolen her thunder, but I was still expecting more than that.

Overall I’m rather disappointed that Sweden, Estonia or Finland didn’t win, but also massively relieved that Israel didn’t win and happy for Austria.

I thought Denmark was also hard done by in the audience vote😞

Gundogday · 18/05/2025 00:36

I kinda miss when they go through all the scores, although we’d still be here this time tomorrow if that happened. Maybe thevfinal should have fewer acts in it, and they knock more out of semifinal.

footpath · 18/05/2025 00:37

On the plus side maybe we will see less shouty ladies in leather thong leotards with big hair?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 18/05/2025 00:38

BurntBroccoli · 18/05/2025 00:32

Maybe Sophie Ellis Bextor needs to do it?

YES! In a giant kitchen disco ball suspended from the sky

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2025 00:38

See you all for Glastonbury. Hopefully that thread won’t get invaded by the high blood pressure mob.

BurntBroccoli · 18/05/2025 00:35

Agree. I think it should be restricted to one vote per person to stop all this 20 votes thing.

Or one vote per act, if that's possible to track/implement. It's not just Israel - Poland and Lithuania could send a drunk man snoring on stage and still get top three in our televote. One vote per act dilutes the diaspora impact

Voting should be restricted to participating countries only

There are 57 EBU countries (including much of North Africa - Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt are all members).

There were 37 acts this year. Thus only 37 national juries and 37 televote scores (kind of - I think there is some weirdness with San Marino not actually having a “real” televote) plus a test of the world televote.

True. I do think that in a year with so many gimmicks like dragons, a rocket dildo, an entire sauna and explosive sand diarrhoea, they lost some memorability by keeping it simple.

Gundogday · 18/05/2025 00:39

LivelyFinch · 18/05/2025 00:26

I think we are all being played.

Participants get together and decide who can afford to host the next contest.

We vote and think we can make a difference. We can't, it's one big fix.

I think you could be right!

How soon before we get the ‘Sound of music’ references. Chuckled when Graham said ‘See you in Vienna, or another Austrian city which I don’t know the name of’.

ArtTheClown · 18/05/2025 00:39

I was shocked at Switzerland doing so badly with the public vote.

Austria just felt like a rehash of last year really.

I wanted San Marino to win 😆

Swan6284 · 18/05/2025 00:39

TheGrimSmile · 18/05/2025 00:20

It's just a minority with an agenda voting over and over again - they can vote up to 20 times. Most normal people only vote once. If Palestine had been in the competition, they would have won for sure - however shite their song was. Most people are definitely not on the side of Israel in all of this. People don't generally side with bullies.

That neatly encapsulates the echo chamber that surrounds this issue.

If Palestine were an entrant I can assure you Israel would absolutely trounce them in a vote.

Just because one particular group is loud and offensive doesn’t mean they have majority support. Many people feel it is easier to keep their thoughts and opinions to themselves if all they get in response if they don’t is abuse.

All you see in the media are offensive pro-Palestine thugs. In real life virtually everyone I speak to is pro-Israel. The media is empowering a small group but please don’t be fooled that they are anything other than that.

Yes I agree. It's difficult to keep track of the scoreboard and the camera keeps going away from it.

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2025 00:41

I thought the Swiss song was awful!
