How are Israel even allowed to perform? Never mind be voted for. How the fuck did we give them twelve points? What is going on?

The only reason I knew it was Eurovision this weekend was because of all the “vote Israel” posts I saw on Facebook. Genuinely flabbergasted by it all. How on earth Israel could have hosted whilst they’re carrying out a genocide is beyond me.

That shows what people really think. The free Palestine mob are vocal but by no means anywhere near a majority.

Israel won the UK public vote and the overall viewer vote. Based on the numbers they will have been top or very close to the top of virtually every country’s vote.

It's just a minority with an agenda voting over and over again - they can vote up to 20 times. Most normal people only vote once. If Palestine had been in the competition, they would have won for sure - however shite their song was. Most people are definitely not on the side of Israel in all of this. People don't generally side with bullies.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 18/05/2025 00:16

Apparently Jade Ewan did that too and didn't she come fifth or something?

Yes. Precisely. It makes a huge difference but in general the UK just doesn’t care/bother enough. Like sure we care right now, but how many people actually watch or pay attention to the selection of the act? Or learn anything about them more than a week before the event? Or even think about Eurovision outside of the actual night?

MrsArcher23 · 18/05/2025 00:20

If there are 20 votes available to buy for anyone bothered to engage in the televote process, it’s easy to see how it’s so open to manipulation by motivated and well resourced forces.
The EBU will be breathing a sigh of relief that next year’s Eurovision won’t be hosted in Tel Aviv.

Oh but don't you know, it's just people who like the song, nothing political to see here 👀

Shocked that the UK didn’t get any public votes! A wake up call for us in the UK ..we are not a popular country!

But also Switzerland! That was a sweet song. Are they unpopular in Europe or without 'alliances'? I don't really know.

If Mumsnet is an echo chamber and people against the genocide are a minority and most people support Israel, why is Israel the only country who had the audience muted during their song and vote announcements? 🤔

What could the UK do better for next year?

Enter a novelty bat shit crazy song

Charmeleon33 · 18/05/2025 00:22

Enter someone Israeli?

All the mad Zionists voting 20 x each.

There aren’t enough of them to justify those high audience scores. The bots always get that wrong and overplay the scores. Like who honestly believes that Xsrael came second - no matter how many bots contradict the Mumsnetters sanity on this thread. ESC was toast if Austria didn’t win with that rubbish song.

RedToothBrush · 18/05/2025 00:23

I couldn't give a fuck about Israel or Gaza on Eurovision night.

Go away.

That was too stressful. I’d put a load of money on Sweden going top five, so I nearly had a heart attack when they flopped in the public vote. Then Israel nearly winning the thing Shock

I was backing Sweden and Estonia, but I’m delighted that Austria won now. Also delighted that Estonia did so well (if they’d lost the contest to Israel by one point I would have been furious!) but disappointed that Sweden didn’t do as well as expected (fourth is still good of course).

Not disappointed at the UK for getting nil points - terrible song. Happy that the Iceland boys got 33 in the public vote after getting zero from the jury (I loved their song). And surprised at Malta only getting 8(?) points - it did feel like Austria had massively stolen her thunder, but I was still expecting more than that.

Overall I’m rather disappointed that Sweden, Estonia or Finland didn’t win, but also massively relieved that Israel didn’t win and happy for Austria.

As a neutral country, that’s exactly right: no alliances.

TheTallgiraffe · 18/05/2025 00:24

Our lack of points isn’t all about our general popularity as a country. It’s also because we just don’t bloody bother
Quite and seven countries got fewer points than the UK. So are they even less popular than the UK?

OublietteBravo · 18/05/2025 00:24

Great results for Greece, Albania and Latvia. Italy also did better than expected. 10th for Switzerland is very respectable for a host country. Pleased to see that we weren’t the bottom of the Big 5 - I thought we might be this year.

Israeli airstrikes struck a refugee camp in September 2023, before the music festival.

You're deluded if you think the people of Palestine would be living in peace if it weren't for October 7th.

They are hosting though. Less likely to get votes for that reason.

This. It would have killed the contest dead if Israel had won.

They wouldn't be able to run it. Without the fans it's nothing.

Security would have been impossible. Fans wouldn't go. You'd have an empty arena and no atmosphere.

I didn't consider going this year because the whole thing last year was like getting stuck in the middle of someone else fight. It ruined it.

This isn't what the song contest is about. I am not interested.

Go away. Both parties as as bad as each other in their own way. Neither can take the moral high ground.

Send something in Welsh?

LivelyFinch · 18/05/2025 00:26

I think we are all being played.

Participants get together and decide who can afford to host the next contest.

We vote and think we can make a difference. We can't, it's one big fix.

2021x · 18/05/2025 00:26

I think the only songs on my playlist from this year are Germany’s and Latvias.

What struck me is even th winner was so low scoring.

Nemo got 591 points last year. Kaaraja got 539 points and he came second the year before.

Also I hope Nemo is OK that performance was something different.

Oh give it a rest. The whole world is increasingly seeing Israel’s true colours so no matter how much you post, you’re not going to change anyone’s opinion apart from confirm what we all already know.
