New series starting next week - really looking forward to it. The teams are travelling in Asia, but I can't find information about the couples yet. Wednesday nights sorted!

Loving it so far and like pp’s loved the brothers laughing in the hotel room.

Re: mother and son, I suspect that as time goes on, he’s going have a new level of respect for his mum who seems to have far more resilience than he does.

hopeishere · 24/04/2025 18:45

Why did the mother and son get off to a bad start? I missed it as DH was being a twit!

Loved the brothers laughing at the key! Like the sisters too.

placemats · 24/04/2025 19:04

They got the wrong bus @hopeishere

I have been paying attention on the first watch last night and made notes but will still re watch as the scenery ❤️. May have mentioned that before x

What was the time difference at the first checkpoint ? Did anyone notice ?

Not everyone had got there by the end of the programme. I expect they'll give the times at the beginning of next week's episode.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/04/2025 19:38

i think the first two got there in 4 days and the next two got there on the 5th day

I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm mindful that the mum may very well be a Mumsnetter and there have been a few negative comments about her already- please be gentle!

I'm sorry but I don't agree with this at all. I want to have an authentic discussion, not something dressed up in #bekind fluff. I also don't think any individual on the thread is or should be Head Girl.

Obviously, no out and out abuse or undue harsh criticism. But these threads about RATW have been going for years with not many or no deletions iirc.

I agree. If someone puts themselves forward for a competition on TV they will have to accept viewers will have favourites and find some others annoying. Obviously, out and out abuse would be wrong.

I found the brothers annoying at first, especially the wealthy one but they redeemed themselves to me giggling in that awful room. Maybe I will warm to the mother and son later on but at the moment I find him arrogant and entitled and she has enabled it. Quite possibly there'll be a back story or an incident in the next few weeks that will change my mind.

claudiaswinklemen · 24/04/2025 19:52

Authentic does not mean unkind though. This is such a warm, respectful programme it would be good if the thread reflected that.

Eh? I said be gentle, not "don't post anything negative whatsoever". You basically agreed with me when you said no abuse or undue harsh criticism.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/04/2025 19:57

my ds watched this last year and looked completed surprised that anyone would have favourites
it is not really the point of the show - otherwise you might end up disappointed

About three hours between first and second, I think. The first signature definitely said "5 something" and the second "8 something".

I've noticed they often edit it to look like they're head to head, but there's actually quite a sizeable gap.

The Welsh couple did so well considering they are so young and seem to have hardly been out of Wales. Contrasting with Posh boy who had been 'travelling' and seemed super confident

And yet turned out a bit useless until his mum stepped in.

If he learns anything on this trip it'll be that his mum is far more capable than he thinks she is.

Liquorandvinegar · 24/04/2025 21:10

Have caught up now - thoroughly enjoyed this first episode. Loving the brothers - they seem to want to get to know each other again and the giggling was so infectious!
That lavatory though 😯

Such scenery - I really appreciate the programme showing me places I never knew existed but which are so stunning!
Those cave monuments! The world really is full of wonders.

the last time there was a couple who had a wheely bag instead of a ruck sack, they left early, due to family health i think

Are you thinking of the lovely mum in the mum/son team that were in series 2 which was through South America.

They left before the end due to the mum's health.

She had a wheely case (and was lovely).

Dh and I have a standing joke that worse Chinese food we’ve ever eaten is in China! We aren’t the only ones of our friends to think so 🤣

Same, the worst Chinese food I’ve eaten was in china

Surely most people who watch TV programmes like some people who are on them more than others?
Not sure what you mean about it not being the point of the show; what's wrong with hoping someone wins, and so what if anyone is disappointed by the eventual winner.

the80sweregreat · 25/04/2025 06:55

Caught up yesterday.
I already like Yin and Gaz , they seem my kind of people and the mum with Thomas is my age and she’ll be a completely different person by the end of this I bet and Thomas will realize his always underestimated her! My own son is a bit like him sometimes, doesn’t realize you can be resilient and worldly wise at 60 ! 😆
Dh went to China with work ( Shanghai) and really hated it there. I admit it’s never appealed to me , but I probably wouldn’t eat much and might lose some weight! surprised they could film in China as the last season they didn’t or couldn’t or something?
great programme though.

the80sweregreat · 25/04/2025 06:58

Loved the two sisters as well. So polite and well spoken. Although I feel they will fall out at some stage! ( mind you, they probably all will )
(Also agree that Patsy Palmer is beautiful!
Not watched her at all on big brother though )
The rich brother is so arrogant , but they might do well.

Quite. It's a competition. People get eliminated on the way and someone wins, that is the entire point of the programme.

Stellaris22 · 25/04/2025 07:34

Oh, the Mum would totally be on MN, she’s a housewife who’s never worked, she’ll have nothing better to do 😂

Cant believe she was aiming for the ‘oh, life is hard actually’ when describing her life.

Other than the Mum and son I’m loving the others and the route looks great.

the80sweregreat · 25/04/2025 07:47

Bit harsh about the mum. Surely it’s a choice if you don’t want to work and be happy about their choices? I can see both sides , but the hate women get for choosing a different lifestyle baffles me.
Lots of mumsnetters do work and post too.
Mighy be lots of reasons she doesn’t work

Stellaris22 · 25/04/2025 07:49

It’s more that she was talking about how hard her life is about managing the house and cleaning. The rest of us do that on top of working!

Treeleaf11 · 25/04/2025 07:49

How do you know she has never worked?? I don't think she has said that. Even if she hasn't so what

She said at the very beginning that she never worked but had her work cut out with the children etc.
