New series starting next week - really looking forward to it. The teams are travelling in Asia, but I can't find information about the couples yet. Wednesday nights sorted!

Yes the young couple did a home stay as we saw them putting nose bags on the horses and we got fins back story about his tumour etc. they went through the cities and the others did desert I think so they were faster

I totally get the girls story. The eldest just had to find a way forward and went off to be a student. Youngest one felt lost and lonely. It wasn’t the eldests job to care for her as still so young but clearly it left a big gap. Losing your home at that age is trauma.

Yes. It happened to me and I was 17 at the time but had younger siblings. I remember the sense of shame very keenly. Thankfully, a house was found for us but we could’ve ended up in emergency housing. Even though they shared the same trauma, their experiences of it are very different. And the same older sister did what she had to do.

RaraRachael · 29/05/2025 13:22

I also enjoyed this episode far more than previous ones. It was nice to see the difference between the cities and the more rural areas. I loved seeing the brothers with the camel herders and Sion and Finn with the horses.
I still can't warm to Caroline although Tom is growing on me. She said that she wasn't going to make decisions but it's a team effort.
Something didn't add up with the sisters' home story. Aren't they meant to be 26 and 33, yet I'm sure they said that when it happened they were 14 and 18. I wondered why the older one went to Italy, unless they had family or friends there.

My choice would be -
1 Brothers
2 Teenagers
3 Sisters
$ Tom and mum

HelenHywater · 29/05/2025 14:39

I don't like how the back story for each of the competitors has become more important than the amazing places they're seeing, the people they're meeting and their experiences. I feel like we spend so much time discussing their individual trauma that we aren't getting enough travel stories and seeing enough of the people they are meeting. And also it could do with injecting a bit of humour occasionally I think. It's just all crying and trauma. I feel a bit fed up of it tbh. I think the balance is all wrong now.

murasaki · 29/05/2025 14:51

I got the impression Finn has really got the travel bug, whereas Sioned wants to stay in a tiny village and have babies immediately. I don't give the relationship long but then that's normal at their age.

Waggytail · 29/05/2025 15:17

As much as India looks gorgeous with those wide shots, I notice that in a lot of the street footage and even some of the nature shots, there's rubbish everywhere. Poor crocodiles sitting on a little island clogged with plastic. Bit depressing

murasaki · 29/05/2025 15:34

I did note that there was no mention of the massacre at Amritsar, which was the first thing I thought of when on of the teams went there. It was all 'how beautiful' which it is, but still.

That’s how India is, rubbish everywhere.

Must admit , thus series hasn’t sold Nepal or India to me - much too overcrowded, precarious roads etc although the Mountain View’s were spectacular.

However, I still sometimes google those waterfalls in South American just to have a look at them. Never knew they existed until then.

Iguazu? Best place I've ever visited

Romeiswheretheheartis · 29/05/2025 18:30

@RaraRachael I thought that too about their ages. They did say they lost the house when they were 14 and 18, but previously their age gap was bigger than that.

That’s them. I never remember their name, and usually have to do a ‘waterfall in South America’ google search!

MistyMountainTop · 29/05/2025 19:08

What's fascinating that I don't think they told you on the programme is that they're worth seeing from both the Argentinian and the Brazilian sides to get the full effect

I thought the older sister said she was over 18.

I thought they said in the beginning there was 10 years between them.

murasaki · 29/05/2025 19:48

I thought it was six. 26 and 32 now.

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/05/2025 19:50

I just checked it's 26 and 33. 7 years.

you can actually see the bullet holes in the wall when you visit.

SweetChilliGirl · 29/05/2025 20:46

The older sister said she was 'over eighteen', not eighteen. That was why she had to leave and couldn't go into the emergency housing with her parents. She would have been twenty-one.

HairyToity · 29/05/2025 20:49

I agree much much less back story and more focus on the travel. The first two series were the best.

TheyNotLikeUs · 29/05/2025 20:59

But when I think of previous series, I remember the back stories more than the travel e.g. the medic who liked cats and her fertility journey, and the teenage boy who lost his mother young.

I don’t remember either of those!

murasaki · 29/05/2025 21:26

Wasn't the lovely medic in the Canada series? They could get away with more back story then as there was frequently only one route to places so it was less fun overall.

Gundogday · 29/05/2025 21:37

Yes, Canada was less exciting travel wise. They seem to catch a lot of trains and ferries, and often had two on more pairs of contestants on the same boat/train/bus at the same time. However, we were just coming out of Covid then, so it was a much tamer show.

RaraRachael · 29/05/2025 22:08

In Canada they also got lifts from their hosts and the norm seemed to be standing at a petrol station with a card saying where you wanted to go.
