Hello all
I couldn't see another thread but it looks like this starts on Thursday 10th April.

What will be the themes this year? Banquettets aplenty? Grumpy contestants coming on to the thread to tell us off for not being kind? Hideous colour combinations?

Who know what joys await us!

I think Bradley should have gone.

Chrysanthemum5 · 18/04/2025 09:25

I didn't really like any of them. And a shipping container in a bit of waste ground would not be a tempting place to work for most people. It would be noisy; hard to maintain a comfortable temperature; and squashed. A pretty hard brief to be honest.

I can’t remember most of the names yet. The one that came first was by far the best, I actually liked it rather than going for the least bad 😹 The right one went definitely, the finish on her upholstery was awful amongst other things. That scouser should go next, let’s see if he’s any better next week

PuppyMonkey · 18/04/2025 11:58

I worried about where the toilets were.

Bruisername · 18/04/2025 11:59

I would be interested to know the true purpose of the containers -are they going to actually be restaurants/shops?

I would imagine there is a communal area with toilets and kitchen if they are going to be offices

Bruisername · 18/04/2025 12:03

Also, it was eco week but I imagine it will all end up in landfill

cordelia16 · 18/04/2025 13:16

I like how chill Holly was. When everyone was running around doing last-minute things, she was just sititng enjoying her tea (I know it was staged, but still).

And I think that's what made her design so successful. It was creative and simple (in the focused kind of way), and she fully carried out her vision. Some of the others try so hard to IMPRESS with their complicated designs that they end up with too much chaos and/or have to leave some things half finished.

JamMakingWannaBe · 18/04/2025 15:40

Maybe I'm wrong but wasn't Rita's "women's magazine" corner curved desk and possibly the Teacher's architect's standing desk also made of MDF...?

Thanks! Looks like they’ve kept some of the decor

facilities appear to be at the neighbouring museum. Not sure I’d want to have to run over on a rainy day!!

I can only assume a lot of the designers have never spent long hours at a workstation or in a working office. Most of the provided chairs are a H&S nightmare and Bradley’s were not the only desks to be way too small and cramped for work.

I liked Holly and Rita’s spaces best but Holly needed better chairs. The curved desk was a good way to increase desk real estate in a small space without feeling too cramped.

I was imagining being in a metal box with four people on conference calls and some idiot decides to play 70s hits a few feet away - they would die. Couple that with a flight of stairs and a dash across a car park to use the loo and I would work in a coffee shop before one of those boxes.

LillyPJ · 18/04/2025 20:10

I was impressed by several of the designs this week. I loved Craig's desks being at an angle and Holly's office looked inviting. I'm glad Emma went - hers was another mess of too many ideas. Briony needs to be less boring!

8dateslater · 18/04/2025 20:37

Cardboard around lights is possibly my health and safety nightmare of the week

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 18/04/2025 21:17

Just caught up. Usually Allen Carr’s ‘comedy’ sketches are just a bit meh. But really didn’t like the sexist portrayal.

I’m not surprised Emma went - she couldn’t pick a single theme and it really showed.

But the swing was also ridiculous.

Davros · 18/04/2025 23:23

Oh god, I’d forgotten about the swing. Dreadful!

Chrysanthemum5 · 19/04/2025 09:16

@JamesWebbSpaceTelescope I usually tune out during Alan's little sketches but this week's annoyed me as well.

I just fast forward Alan’s bits.
It’s just not my taste in “comedy”
Each to her own.

Davros · 19/04/2025 09:40

In all these programmes now they have these linking “funny” sketches featuring the presenter, see Pottery Throwdown. I wish they would just stop it

Bruisername · 19/04/2025 09:40

I’m not really sure why they expose us to the Alan bits. They add nothing and I would rather see the rooms a little bit longer or the 3D drawing

Chrysanthemum5 · 19/04/2025 10:14

I think Alan's little bits are where they'd have adverts in other countries that buy the show. So they can just chop those out and replace with adverts. I may be wrong though!

I note that death in paradise is an hour but the repeats on some other channel are 1hr20min

so you might be right on that! Although who wants to watch interior design masters UK outside the UK!

Chrysanthemum5 · 19/04/2025 10:21

PBS America, other English speaking countries etc often have lots of rubbish UK programmes on them.

OP posts:
Bruisername · 19/04/2025 10:25

I guess - we get a lot of rubbish the other way!!

Tigerlilian · 19/04/2025 10:25

LillyPJ · 11/04/2025 13:53

I wonder what happens to the rooms afterwards? There were so many things that were impractical for a youth hostel room, not to mention unsafe! Wobbly tables, mirror hanging loose on the back of a door, flimsy furniture... Does somebody have to go in and completely re-do the rooms before they can take guests again?

I gave birth in a hospital room from Changing Rooms that Anna Ryder Richardson had styled with a ‘Moroccan’ theme.
The midwives said the wallpaper in the Linda Barker room was a bit distracting.

Pavone · 19/04/2025 10:49

I already think it’ll be a Holly/ Craig/ Rita final. Predictions on the winner?
