Quoted from the regulations above - "There is a high threshold for such a search" - yes, and there is no way would that have met the threshold, so I can't really get engaged with it. They could have made it a bit more convincing.

Jack is a nasty piece of work IMO and enjoys his power as a police officer (which is probably quite realistic).

It was a disturbing episode and has actually happened in real life too, which makes it even worse.
Jack has always been a nasty , twisted character.

Child Q was strip searched (without legal cause) because school thought she had drugs on her (she didn't), in school, without an appropriate adult and whilst on her period (which the police knew) - I can totally buy that Avaani was searched. Adultification and profiling of BAME children is absolutely a thing.

I thought it was a well done episode and wonder where they will go with it. I'm interested in how they write Denise's response.

Race absolutely a factor here. Hadn't thought of Denise's reaction, that'll be interesting.

As an aside she really should have been voted to stay with Ravi and not boring arrogant - and it appears racist - Frankenjack.

I got the impression they were hinting that Suki suspected it was racist and wasn't in line with normal protocol. Avani kept repeating that point over and over.

Where that's the way the story will go I don't know but I certainly thought it was saying racist because the drugs were also at the feet of the white girls.

There was also the dynamic of the white officer conducting the search and the non white officer looking very uncomfortable. At one point I thought that the non white officer was going to whisper something to Avani about how it hadn't been done in line with regulation and that Jack had over reached and stitched up Avani. But that didn't happen.

I think they haven't quite nailed this storyline tbh.

There's gaps all over the place that I'm not convinced they will tie up properly.

Priya really knows how to make things worse. Suki was lovely.

Obviously Amy was released because she's Jack's daughter, and Jean turned up for Lily. No one turned up for Avani and she was gobby, she could have told them where the drugs had come from but just argued the toss. Was race involved? It's hard to pick it apart.

The main point I took from it (as did Avani) was that Priya and Ravi are not interested in parenting their kids and have no idea what they are doing. Nugget ran out of the door and Priya didn't seem to notice.

Jack is actually from a very racist family. When Carol and Alan were getting married there was a storyline around her racist dad and brothers (played by different actors) turning up and attacking Alan. They then did a complete rewrite of the Brannings when Jack and Max were introduced. Jim eventually became best friends with Patrick. I think only Derek was consistent as when he arrived on the square he was openly racist.

I remember Jim being racist when he arrived.

But I suspect the main reason Jack picked on Avani is because of her dad. He absolutely loathes Ravi and will take any chance to have a go at him. And much as I like Ravi, Jack's not really wrong there. Ravi is dealing drugs, Avani stole vapes, so Jack didn't pull the idea out of thin air (though he was completely wrong).

Jack was suspended from the police? What happened with that? Why is he back being a shit police officer?

Oh yes I forgot he was suspended. I can’t remember what for. Something to do with Harry? Nicola engineered it all and said she would destroy his career. Didn’t stop him sleeping with her though🙄 How Denise has gone back to that rancid article is beyond me.

Wasn’t it something to do with a video of Jack punching Harry. I seem to remember that the Mitchell’s used it to blackmail Jack into helping with stolen cars and to put an end to that I think Jack then got Harry arrested for his girlfriend’s murder. Nicola gave him a false alibi and sent the video to the police.

I really felt for her today. Such a powerful episode.

I forgot Jack slept with Nicola!

I know he was suspended but can't remember why he was reinstated. He has been suspended and reinstated that many times I can't keep track.

I'm still surprised the police station's phone came up as a private number 😯 Surely it should show up to make sure people answer the call?

Really think Avani should have asked them to call Suki. Thank goodness Jean let her know.

And yes, I agree with pp who said the other WPC looked uncomfortable with how the blonde WPC was proceeding 😕

The blonde WPC was really nasty.

@Meredusoleil You'd think so re the phone number but going back to when my son was at junior school, 12 years ago, they always called on a withheld number. They blamed the system that the LEA had them use. It was so annoying because you had no choice but to answer withheld numbers in case it was the school.

I thought tonight's episode was really well done, and the Avani actor did a fantastic job at carrying it. It was clearly a direct reference to Child Q and we really should all realise the way that children who aren't white-British are treated by authorities. I've taught in inner-city London and I've witnessed so many examples of insidious prejudice which has a detrimental effect on children's sense of self and wellbeing.
I usually hate EastEnders doing PSAs or being preachy and teachy, but I found this such a powerful episode.

Why do they have so many teens hitting the bottle after a trauma ? It’s such a cliche and been done to death.

I think that Priya did the right thing there reporting it, but hard to know what to do for the best in that situation I suppose and now she’s obviously made it worse. Tricky one

Linda is such a good character, I'm glad she's back on the wagon. She's always good in her scenes with Phil.

Nigel is bound to set the grill on fire again. He really needs to give up his job in the cafe or he'll set that on fire too. Speaking of which, where is Bernie, she's been invisible for weeks.

Jean is trying to protect Stacey, Lily wants her mum back, but Stacey would be no use anyway. Jean will get blamed whatever she does.

Jean herself is a very fragile personality, I can't remember what her diagnosis was but how is she fit to care for four kids? Charli is just a baby so how is Jean coping with the feeds, nappies and broken sleep? Really bad storyline, leaving the children after Martin's death.
