Okay, so I know I am massively late to the party. But I just discovered this show and wow, what a show it is. I am currently bingeing my way through and am totally hooked!!! I am only on series 2 so far but almost at the end and have already downloaded all of series 3 ready!! I don't think I have loved a show like this for such a long time.

I am finding myself getting emotional most episodes. It gets me right in the feels and it has made me think of my parents, my own childhood, my own siblings, my kids and their childhoods and really reflect on my own life. I have never known a show do this to me before. So relatable in so many ways.

I just hope it stays as good and doesn't become a bit crap somewhere along the line. Please tell me it stays this awesome right to the end??

yes the mother details were out of ordinary, season 5 i think, and they now have a farm
i have just seen kate's second wedding and spent so much time complaining that randall's children werent there! why not!
at least it was better than Kate's first wedding when they kept talking about Jack
i do enjoy it but when it gets too tear jerking it is too much for me

Eastie77Returns · 11/05/2025 10:24

Yes so bizarre Randall’s girls were not seen or mentioned in the second wedding!

I liked Kate’s first wedding but did think the way she went on about Jack in the run up to it a bit tiresome. And then carrying his baseball bat down the aisle..too much. The hero worship would have been a red flag to me if I was Toby. He was never going to live up to Saint Jack.

So I'm currently rewatching it for the second time and I'm on season 6.

I've enjoyed it just as much, maybe even more! But it's funny how my opinion of characters have changed.

I love Miguel this tome. He's so lovely and dedicated to Rebecca and such a lovely guy and I just love that. I was so team jack the first time I couldn't see past that, but he's really stole my heart this time!

Randall's annoyed me more than the first round, which I didn't think was possible!

I also noticed how awful Maddison's character development was. I mean I know that they all mature etc, but as soon as she became pregnant her character the just completely changed. To me she was unrecognisable from earlier season!

Just love all the music!

It's such a great series ☺️

Randall was extremely annoying. I hated the way he emotionally blackmailed people around him, particularly Beth. He was always crying or having a panic attack when things didn’t go his way. I actually felt sorry for Kevin and Kate because Rebecca didn’t even try to hide the fact that Randall was her favourite.

autumngirl714 · 29/05/2025 22:46

@Eastie77Returns I totally agree. I hate the fight he had with Kevin at the end of season 5 about how hard it was for him growing up.
I totally understand it was hard for him, but I hate how he made everyone feel bad for him and his treatment. I think it was just overkill and came across as boring and frustrating when they kept repeating the theme over and over!

Livingbeyondyourmemes · 30/05/2025 00:36

It's a while since I saw it, but IIRC, Kevin completely screwed up his fledgling career as a film star to rush to Randall's side (in leaving the set, he pissed off the industry and was told directors wouldn't work with him again - he ended up having to go back to the Manny). Was that ever acknowledged by Randall or the rest of the family? The entire series was a Randall pity party, with the other two kids trailing in the wake of the parental guilt trip.

MrsPeterHarris · 30/05/2025 00:43

You are right @Livingbeyondyourmemes & no, it was never mentioned again.

Randall’s pity party was so frustrating & TBH it did make me question inter-racial adoption as his adoption didn’t seem to be good for anyone involved. Then again, is it better to leave a kid like Randall in the system?? Tough call.

Eastie77Returns · 30/05/2025 04:38

No it was never acknowledged. Instead throughout the show Randall constantly berated Kevin for being selfish and shallow. Randall would never have made that sacrifice if the shoe was on the other foot IMO. He was laser focused on himself, forcing Beth and the girls to move so he could pursue his career in politics and treating Beth’s dancing career with contempt.

I did find the episode in Season 5 where Kevin apologised and told Randall you are my bother and I love you quite touching. But again, it was all about Randall and how hard it was for him growing up. It was also hard for Kevin who was overlooked by his parents because he was good looking and popular so they thought he didn’t need as much attention.

@MrsPeterHarris it is a tough one. Randall would likely have ended up bouncing around the care system if Jack and Rebecca hadn’t taken him in. He loved them but felt like an outsider and there was the episode where he said he constantly dreamt about living with a black family when he was growing up

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/05/2025 05:11

it was very interesting about the inter racial adoption , and good that they covered the difficulties with Randall dreaming of his possible black parents

I rewatched a few episodes a while back and noticed Jack and Rebecca were quite possessive of him and seemed threatened by any positive black influences in his life. Jack was very jealous of the black teacher Randall idolised at his new school and Rebecca initially refused to take guidance from black mums at the swimming pool about how to treat his skin and hair. She then decided she did want him to have black friends and wanted the mums to invite him round for play dates. They both tried to adopt a colour blind approach which was either admirable or stupid depending on your POV!

I've just finished it! Ahhh what a gorgeous series. It's just so well made, the camera, the music choices, the synergy of both between all the series. Very beautiful and touching.

My dislike for Randal calmed down in season 6 as his character toon abit of a back seat, but again irritated me in the final ep. I know what they were trying to do with the Deja pregnancy thing.... but it was just so unnecessary. Telling him she's organs when his mum was on her death bed, telling him it's a boy at her funeral. I don't get that? I wish they'd spent more of that time on Kate and Kevin!

I was also a little disappointed in how little screen time Miguel got at the end... I just fell inlove with him second time round! But I guess the big build up was for jack, and rightly so.

I just love it and don't know what to watch now! I will leave it a couple years and go for round three I think 🙈

autumngirl714 · 09/06/2025 23:23

** she's pregnant not she's organs 🙈🙃

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/06/2025 06:16

I liked Randall always but not Jack

MonkeyTennis34 · 11/06/2025 15:06

I too LOVED This Is Us. I used to cry buckets most episodes.
The only character that used to do my nut in was Kate’s partner, father of her children. I found his character so very annoying but I can’t remember why.
Randall was annoying too.
Loved Jack’s long lost brother, Kate and Kevin the most. And, of course, Audio.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/06/2025 17:46

oh yes, also liked Jack's long lost brother - Nick

MonkeyTennis34 · 11/06/2025 19:17

@MrsLargeEmbodied
Yes, him!

Eastie77Returns · 11/06/2025 19:44

Nick was great. Loved his transformation from grumpy uncle who wanted nothing to do with the family to becoming very close to Kevin. One of my favourite episodes was when he turned up to see Kevin's newborns and bought them a present... his favourite John Grisham from the airport bookshop.
