Okay, so I know I am massively late to the party. But I just discovered this show and wow, what a show it is. I am currently bingeing my way through and am totally hooked!!! I am only on series 2 so far but almost at the end and have already downloaded all of series 3 ready!! I don't think I have loved a show like this for such a long time.

I am finding myself getting emotional most episodes. It gets me right in the feels and it has made me think of my parents, my own childhood, my own siblings, my kids and their childhoods and really reflect on my own life. I have never known a show do this to me before. So relatable in so many ways.

I just hope it stays as good and doesn't become a bit crap somewhere along the line. Please tell me it stays this awesome right to the end??

I binged it last year. It’s brilliant.

I think it does dip a bit around the Vietnam series. But it gets better again.

One thing I like about it is that it stops after 6 seasons. Not that I wouldn't enjoy more, but it's nice that it quits while it's ahead. It's not one of those shows that, because it's popular, just keeps going and going (and going and going).

Really? The scrnes i remember most were the Vietnam related ones. I looked up the draft and it had really stuck with me. My dad’s date of birth came up.

This thread just popped up on active and we are also late to the party with this show, just finished Series 2! OMG the emotion 😭

Unfortunately although he does like it and wants to carry on, my DH finds it a bit OTT and likes a break between series so it will be a month or so until we start S3 😂 his choice of series now... Unless I just watch it without him (I'm tempted, I need to carry on!!)

Literallynoonecares · 27/03/2025 20:42

I am still there and bingeing. I have made it today to the end of Season 5. Oh my god this show is just amazing. I think it may well have to be one of the best I have seen. I took a short break at the end of Season 3 and then caved after a couple of days and have binged 4 and 5!!
😂😂 I will take a few days off now before starting season 6 because I know what’s coming and I kinda don’t want it to end 😭😭

I loved it all, my favourite characters are Beth, Deja and Malik. Randall and Kevin are both brats 😀 Also loved Miguel.

autumngirl714 · 27/03/2025 20:56

I watched this is is about 3 years ago and I'm planning to start rewatching it tonight!
I remember being obsessed with the music choices first time around!
I hope it's as good as I remember 🙂

Season 6 is so beautiful and heartbreaking.

I don't want to give any spoilers for anyone else but there's only one storyline in the whole show I'm not keen on, involving Kate & Toby. Everything else I absolutely adore. Like 10/10 cannot fault.

I'm so sad I've finished it, it's really got me through a tough time. Not to mention the fact that I've had a huge crush on Milo Ventimiglia since his Gilmore Girl days! To the point my middle child is named after him Grin

I haven't loved a show this much since Lost!

I know it will be. I get this feeling that it is all building to a wonderful final season and it makes me sad. I just don't want to get to the end. 😢

It is an amazing show that has provoked every single emotion I have out of me. The acting at times has been incredible and I have loved, laughed and cried with The Pearson's and their extended loves. What a show!! ❤

Ooh I can't wait to carry on. I've also loved Milo since Heroes!
Kevin isn't bad to look at. I do find Kate a bit annoying. Honestly the slow cooker bit, then I was like he's OK?? What's going on... Oh my the ups and downs

Literallynoonecares · 27/03/2025 22:09

I am just gutted it has taken me this long to discover the show. Was recommended it by a friend and thought it sounded a little lame. But decided to just watch one episode and see how it went. One episode in and I was hooked! Couldn't wait to find out what happened next to this family and it just kept getting better, and better, and better and better.

If anyone is thinking about watching then just do it!!!! It is the most moving, thought provoking and relatable show I have ever seen. ❤

Kevin looks just like my brother so I can't agree with anyone who finds him attractive unfortunately Grin Randall though on the other hand though!

The acting is incredible and the way they age the characters and find younger/older actors that so closely resemble the characters they're playing... It's all just fantastic.

Agreed about the emotional journey too. I have three kids and I'm also one of three. One girl & two boys in both sets. So a lot of it felt really relatable, as a mother and a child growing up.

The penultimate episode is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. My daughter came home from gymnastics minutes after I'd finished it and was half amused half concerned about how much I was sobbing!

I found it relatable from so many levels which I think is the beauty of the show. I related to the kids, how they felt and things they went through growing up. I related to them as teens and as adults but I also related to the parents in the show as I am now a Mum and a Wife myself. Whether that is Randall and Beth or Jack and Rebecca. There is always something that you can relate to and experiences they have been through in their lives where you know how that feels. Its just awesome and I have shed many tears watching it.

OP - word of advice....take it slowly, don't binge it.. try to watch one episode a week, or two at most.

Once you've finished it, life will never be the same.

You will never have the chance to watch it for the first time again <nods sagely>

Soooo true...

MiniPumpkin · 27/03/2025 22:19

Oh I just loved it !! Not to give any spoilers but I really liked the use of a train in the final episode to tell the story

PandaPeacock · 27/03/2025 22:27

There’s a great Podcast that they do as well. This Was Us. It’s Mandy Moore, Chris Sullivan and the gorgeous Sterling K Brown. It’s a really good listen.

@Cryingatthegym i was sobbing!!! It was so well acted, my eldest son now wants to watch it lol

IamEarthymama · 28/03/2025 01:20

i loved This is Us, we set up
a fan group with friends and family. We all shared reactions every week.
Mostly tears..,😉☺️

i think Sterling K Brown is an amazing actor, we have just watched Paradise. Wow!

and I also love Tracker starring Justin Hartley.
it’s definitely lightweight but he’s so beautiful and sometimes you just want the right things to happen.

Mandy Moore is gorgeous and I love her pictures of her family.

I want something as good as This is Us now!

Tbrh · 28/03/2025 01:33

I really enjoyed it, it possibly got a bit boring towards the end but still a great show. Most episodes made me ugly cry 😭

I honestly wish I'd watched it at the time so I could have done this!

You're the second or third poster to recommend Paradise so I'm going to look that up tonight to fill the void left by This is Us.

If anyone wants another extended family one, I can thoroughly recommend Offspring on Prime. It’s Australian and I’m re-watching it all at the moment. Just as good second time round. Also re-watched the whole of TIU.
Oh and Maid on Netflix (I think) is really good!
