We have had Super Saturday, A good dozen songs are confirmed.

We have controversy in the song from Malta and the Maltese word for singing. Essentially the whole of Finland’s song is arguably even more controversial. Ireland are singing about the Russian dog sent to space in the 50s. Our band has possibly been leaked as a country girl group. Mans might be back for Sweden.

Anyone getting excited yet? Any opinions on the songs so far?

They are brilliant singers. I love all the clips of them singing with the other contestants too. Hopefully gathering some good will across Europe.

Good will does not stop a shit song, from being shit. Even if sung amazingly.

the80sweregreat · 28/04/2025 10:31

Our song is terrible. Not sure who picked it, but they clearly didn’t want it to win.
The singers seem nice enough though.

RosaMoline · 28/04/2025 11:32

UK entry has grown on me. In my opinion, it’s definitely not the worst.
I’ll be rooting for:
Sweden
Malta
Czechia
🇸🇪 🇲🇹🇨🇿

DisabledDemon · 28/04/2025 13:47

The girls in our entry all have good voices but the song is dreadful. Indeed, what the hell just happened?

RedToothBrush · 28/04/2025 14:39

The frustrating think about the song is its going lots of good bits.

Then some idiot decided to chop it all up and put it in the wrong order so it sounds totally awful. If they'd stuck to a more traditional arrangement instead of trying to hard to be quirky, it might actually have worked.

EurovisionFanGirl · 29/04/2025 18:21

If you like podcasts, I am enjoying Aussievision. They are going through all the entries and giving opinions. They really don’t like the UK entry sadly.

Heard our one again today , it really is awful.
😞

munchbunch12 · 04/05/2025 09:06

On Channel 5 tonight from 7.30 to 9pm there's a programme called "The Best of Eurovision in the 70s". My TV guide says it will feature performances from ABBA, Dana, Mary Hopkin, Cliff Richard and the Shadows and the New Seekers.

It comes across as the work of a committee whose members couldn't agree on the direction the song should take, so they agreed to disagree, and Voila!

OublietteBravo · 06/05/2025 18:55

Only a week to go! The first rehearsals have started. There are some glimpses of costumes/staging on Instagram.

DirectionToPerfection · 08/05/2025 23:20

I'm mostly enjoying this year after a bit of a slow start. There are about six songs I'd be quite happy to see win.

RosaMoline · 09/05/2025 12:00

UK are getting a lot of positive feedback, and we’ve moved up a bit in the betting odds.
Might be not beyond the realms of possibility of a top ten finish?
Here are my favourites this year (no particular order)

Czechia 🇨🇿
Malta 🇲🇹
Poland 🇵🇱
Albania 🇦🇱
Greece 🇬🇷
Israel 🇮🇱

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2025 13:19

I have to say that having seen the UK version live on the one show last week, it is MUCH better live and the girls are excellent performers. Technically it's very good. Where that will win us points from the judges I don't know.

I actually think it captures the vibe of recalling a big night out pretty well!

I agree. If it just started with the slow bit, then went into the fast part and stayed with that - maybe one final slow bit at the end - it might be alright, but as it is, its just an annoying disjointed mish mash. I think it's going to come across as an embarrassing mess on the night.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 10/05/2025 10:05

Just looked up the Swedish entry after reading this thread - that's what you call a Eurovision song! I smiled all the way through it, love it! That's what's needed, something immediately catchy and fun, not something complicated that might possibly start to grow on you after about 3 months. Sweden to win!

EurovisionFanGirl · 10/05/2025 17:08

I feel like I have been overexposed to Sweden now - all the artists are doing the Bara Bada Basto dance with Kai in Instagram reels. But I do like it and think it will probably win.

Half an hour until the turquoise carpet Live stream. I am going to get the flags out today for Eurovision week.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 11/05/2025 14:58

Well the Turquoise Carpet event is truly dreadful.

They didn't even show Portugal

The drag queen interview is just awful. They've got cue cards for each country. The comments on the feed are that whoever prepared those cards must be dreadful and that the interviews are all awful

To illustrate the point they've just done UK and said something about there being nothing on their cue card and said "I don't even know what to ask you".

OMFuckingG it is BAD.

EurovisionFanGirl · 11/05/2025 15:15

I saw the first 30 mins or so. I was worried about the protests. I thought they kept cutting away from the action. Was going to catch up on interviews later but sounds like I haven’t missed much.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 11/05/2025 17:25

It wasn't an interview for any of them.

They were stupid questions that made no sense and an extraordinarily rude interviewer (it was a comment that came up repeatedly in the live youtube sidebar chat). The commentary duo were appalling. It was so amateur, poorly thought out and executed throughout. It was embarassing. I mean missing out one of the competitors?!

I've been watching the 30 sec rehearsal clips today.
https://eurovisionworld.com/esc/eurovision-2025-watch-the-rehearsal-videos
There's links to them all here as they aren't easy to search for on Youtube this year (Rylan did an official summary show of the rehearsal last year but I can't find an equivalent this year - just unofficial stuff).

The UKs clip, is so much better than the offical video. I am coming around to the conclusion that the levels an visuals on the video are particularly poor. It sounds very different to the live performance. Thats the same as the One Show performance. It was technically exceptional, the arrangement original (if challenging), it seems to have referential nods to many previous songs and a whole lot screechy.

I have no idea how it will be received as a result. In theory the jury are supposed to judge on musicality, technical ability and originality. They have a tendancy to favour more traditional operatic/ballads style songs because of this. Looking at the rehearsal, if the juries judge on the criteria they are supposed to / usually do, then the UK SHOULD pick up votes. I am much more worried about the public vote at this point - and the official video/recorded version won't have helped this.

Semi 1 Show Thread incoming.

Keep the spoilers to this thread for now.

Eurovision 2025: Watch the rehearsal videos

All 37 participants have had their second rehearsal in Basel. Watch snippets from the rehearsals here

https://eurovisionworld.com/esc/eurovision-2025-watch-the-rehearsal-videos

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2025 17:44

The betting on who will win the jury vote makes for interesting reading.
Austria 36%
France 17%
Switzerland 10%
Sweden 6%
Netherlands 5%
Czechia 3%
Belgium 2%
Italy 2%
Israel 2%
UK 1%
Ukraine 1%
Albania 1%

Crucially we are in the top 12. It could go either way for us, but its encouraging.

(We won't talk about the betting for the televote!)

munchbunch12 · 11/05/2025 17:49

thanks for the thread for Tue

OublietteBravo · 11/05/2025 18:08

Thanks for the threats @RedToothBrush. I am so looking forward to Eurovision week!

I can’t see anyone other than Sweden topping the televote. I’m not sure how the jury vote will go - for Sweden or anyone else. It could be one of those years where someone unexpected wins the jury vote. Like 2018 (Austria) or 2019 (North Macedonia).
