Welcome to the EastEnders spoilers thread, where we post and talk about any EE spoilers we've read about, including those in early release episodes on iPlayer.

Link below to watch episodes on BBC iPlayer - these are usually dropped at 6am on broadcast days - and you can read brief synopses of upcoming episodes:

I just googled the original Peggy, she looks a bit like Daisy May Cooper. They've obviously disregarded her because the styling in today's episode is trying to be like Barbara Windsor.

I also dislike Grant because of how he treated Tiffany, her death really upset me at the time.

the80sweregreat · 13/02/2025 17:19

Peggy ( Barbara Windsor) came into the show a while after Grant and Phil. They were already established and causing havoc.
Then they introduced Archie and more Mitchell's over time. They pretty much took over from the original families of the Fowler's and the Beales at one stage !
There was some fan speculation on Facebook that Lily isn't Ryan's daughter and might be Archie's ! I don't think this is the case, but Stacey having links to a Mitchell that way would be interesting. Although I really don't think they would have left it this long for a story like that one and we have seen Ryan again once or twice etc

the80sweregreat · 13/02/2025 17:21

Grant was awful to Tiffany
She was a sad character and Sharon had an abortion because of him too.

Shellingbynight · 13/02/2025 18:36

Everyone thinks of Babs when they think of Peggy so they had to go with that version.

You have a very good memory 80s, I honestly can barely remember Grant, it is so long ago!

burblish · 13/02/2025 18:50

Steve McFadden must be one of the most underrated actors in television - he was superb in this episode. Kudos also to the actors playing young Phil and young Grant for getting their distinctive speech patterns so spot-on. I could have closed my eyes and just listened to their opening lines and I'd instantly know which characters they were portraying.

the80sweregreat · 13/02/2025 18:53

Steve McFadden was just brilliant today
He is consistently good as Phil and brings so many different dimensions to the character who isn't always nice , but can make you feel sorry for him too!
I hope he gets a BAFTA or something one day

Itisjustmyopinion · 13/02/2025 19:34

I thought the young Grant was actually using Ross Kemp’s voice it was so similar

Jamie Winstone’s portrayal of Barbara/Peggy was much better in the Barbara drama years ago. Still good though

Steve McF should win so many more awards than he does, especially after today’s performance.

When you compare him to others (Teddy jumps straight to the top of the list) there is no comparison.

Stuckinarut100 · 13/02/2025 19:57

Watching it now, Jaime Winstone very OTT but good otherwise!

Shellingbynight · 13/02/2025 21:11

I loved this episode, it was like watching a Play for Today. Young Phil was perfect, young Grant had exactly the right delivery but he’s too pretty!

I thought Jay's scenes were actually okay when I saw them in context. Phil did a pretty good job of covering up and I liked their talk about Lola.

I agree Steve McF is superb. He really shows up the likes of Teddy!

I am not completely convinced by Jaime as Peggy, she always seems quite self conscious. Samantha Spiro did the best job as Babs.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I thought tonight's episode was absolutely awful. I really wanted to like it but it was a big fat no from me. The only good part was Grant, his squinty eyed scowl and his "Hello Bruv".

I am sure the entire is celebrating at the return of the finest thespian in the land.

There is dancing in the street around here.

Agreed. What brilliant actors they both are

the80sweregreat · 13/02/2025 16:42

One negative though , Jamie's wig as a young Peggy was a bit over the top ..
Phil's nasty dad was his I imagined him , but they showed him before being horrible

80s come on we know about Eastenders and wigs. Just look at the current mob

Sharon
Denise
Yolande
Elaine

EconomyClassRockstar · 14/02/2025 00:20

I did REALLY love the use of the OG opening credits.

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2025 10:04

Yeah, the wig situation isn't great is it ! lol
Looking forwards to next week and I bet there may be a few surprises maybe?
I did read somewhere that Cindy isn't part of the celebrations, but not sure why ? Michelle Collins said it was ' complicated' so bit intriguing there but I hope she isn't killed off and it is Reiss who meets a sticky end which looks likely.

Shellingbynight · 14/02/2025 10:23

I doubt they would kill Cindy off, they tried that before and had to bring her back from the dead!

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2025 10:50

Not sure why Cindy isn't around for the 'celebrations ' ( as she put it in the article!)

milesmachine · 14/02/2025 10:54

I've had a look at the photos for next week and the death definitely seems to happen around the fire at the Queen Vic. Some people are photographed around the street and in the aftermath (Jack, Denise, Ravi, George, Elaine, Phil, Linda etc) so that rules them out. Here's my rating on who might go:

Cindy 3/10: Reckon they've already done her dying and then being hit over the head. Her big story is likely to be the reveal

Reiss 5/10: I think it'd be a let down if he was the big death as it promises to be a more established character. He might die but if he does, I think he'll take someone with him

Sonia 6/10: I don't think they'd kill her off while pregnant but I'm also not sure they'd repeat the Abbie storyline of her dying and leaving the baby. I reckon she'll go off into the sunset with new baby

Bianca: 8/10: She could sacrifice herself for Sonia and her death would be classed as a big character death without losing any day to day stars

Martin 8/10: All the news seems to suggest he will go but James Bye is super popular. If he did due then Stacey would be given a reason to take leave from the square (for her maternity leave) but she'd have to take all the kids with her for it to be believable

Stacey 9/10: The only way Stacey would be away from her kids is death or jail. And I can't see her maternity leave meaning all her brood will also be off screen for that amount of time

Amy 9/10: I didn't see her in the photos and it would explain why Jack was so concerned looking up at the roof. She could be caught in the crossfire of Reiss/Sonia

What does anyone else think?

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2025 11:25

I am thinking that Reiss dies because they probably won't want to bother with a trial story etc. Although Grays one wasn't filmed , so only a guess there.
I have read that people think it's Martin who meets a grizzly end, but I hope not. Unless the actor wants out for some reason.

Agree with this 👌 💯

LuxuryWoman2020 · 14/02/2025 13:15

I think Reiss will die and possibly Ruby (Ruby as a nod to the 40 years)

Steve McFadden was absolutely amazing in that episode, just incredible

thisoldcity · 14/02/2025 14:01

Joining in with the love for Steve McFadden here as well - it's very difficult to make depression look like anything at all, but he does it really well. I think the portrayal of his mum was meant to be a bit OTT because this is all in his imagination, like Peggy said at one point - something about 'this is what you think I'd say', it's not a real flashback as such.

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2025 14:16

Phil is his own worst enemy.
Some still care about him despite pretty vile to her and all his wives and girlfriends ( as Peg told him !)
It's a long list of women his upset and humiliated over time. People still care though
( well, Sharon does!)
Probably because she knows him better than anyone really

Ruby:

Lousisa Lytton is only back for a short period of time .
If she dies then Roman is her only heir .
(Martin could have a claim as legally I think they are still married .

Then we'll find out that she is in fact a millionaire and with a hefty life insurance , it'll be in Trust for Roman.
Maybe Martin and Roman will stay in the Square . Or Martin might feel his son will be a target for kidnap , so move away .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/02/2025 15:46

If we did a Poll of "What we you up to when the first episode of Eastenders aired" can you all remember ?

I had left school and working ( not a gap year , I just didn't get into college but I did the next year )

Anyone who sayds "I wasn't born then" can just leave right now listen to us oldies rambling . Grin
