My DH works in the evenings and I'm trying to get out of the habit of scrolling through my phone to pass the time!

Can anyone recommend any funny series I can get stuck into?

Some stuff I've watched in the past and loved:

English Teacher (binged this last week and it's great)
Motherland (was very late to the party but also watched this recently! Would love to watch some more UK stuff)
What We Do In The Shadows
Stath Lets Flats
People Just Do Nothing
Schitts Creek
The Office US
Parks & Rec
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Curb Your Enthusiasm

I haven't watched much tv over the past couple of years so think I might have missed some good series. Any recs welcome!

I will tell you one show I don't recommend... Motherland. I think it shows everything that is wrong with motherhood in the 21st century and we've lost the traditional values of motherhood. Women are the glue of the family and it does not show that! Instead it diminishes us mothers and makes us look like we don't have control over our god given duty. We're represented as irrelevant in this society where without us, it wouldn't stand!

Nice one 😂

I love the oldies.

There are plenty of excellent mainstream ones such as The Good Life, Yes Minister / Prime Minster, Porridge /Going Straight, Hi-De-Hi, Dinner ladies etc.
There are also several that don't seem to get the coverage they deserve such as Surgical Spirit, Jam And Jerusalem, Watching, Oh Dr Beeching, You Rang Mylord etc.

My absolute favourites have been mentioned already but

Back to life (not gonna lie - a bit bleak)
Big Boys (is on Netflix now I thing)
We are ladyparts

I have been watching the Fraiser reboot on paramount plus (free trial) and have been surprised. Nowhere near actual Fraiser but amusing and I've laughed out loud a few times . Grown up Freddie has grown up well....

I'll add:

Nobody wants this

And Slow Horses (not comedy but so many funny moments and very watchable)

@TroysMammy OMG Hunderby! My brother got me the dvd for my birthday when I first came out and I have never been so amusingly repulsed in my life. I haven't been able to watch it againGrin.

Julia Davis is one hilariously sick puppy.

Also is it Getting On when they are nurses in a geriatric ward. With Jo Brand, Joanne scanlan and vicky Pepperdine. That's quite good in a pretty bleak way too.

Early Doors on iplayer

Love it. It’s just heartwarming in every way.
And the two coppers absolutely nail it.
Might go and watch it again!

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 11/01/2025 08:31

Agree with PP, Nobody Wants This on Netflix.
Really enjoyed it.

ChocoChocoLatte · 11/01/2025 09:24

Ted Lasso

Derry Girls

Shittes Creek (give it time, it's worth it)

Marvellous Miss Maisel

Grace & Frankie

AlteredStater · 11/01/2025 09:25

Coupling

Absolutely hilarious! Used to air on BBC2.

TinyMouseTheatre · 11/01/2025 09:32

Colin from Accounts and Everyone Else Burns have been our two recent favourites Wink

cushionfiend · 11/01/2025 09:43

We Are Lady Parts on Channel 4. It's about a Muslim girl punk band. It's brilliant. Has a lot of heart but also v funny.

Working moms.
Offspring

soupsong · 11/01/2025 18:25

Two Doors Down
Here we Go
Breeders
Motherland
This Country
G&S
Nighty Night

Another great dark comedy was "Getting On" with Jo Brand but I don't think it's ever been repeated on iplayer.

Not comedy series but sketch shows.
Not the nine o'clock news
Naked video
A kick up the eighties.

BeFlakyStork · 11/01/2025 20:39

Huge yes to both of these! Arrested Development is mediocre the first time you watch it, but there are so many brilliant hidden jokes the whole way through that you notice and appreciate so much more the second time, it's so clever!

The Inbetweeners is my guilty pleasure, and What We Do In The Shadows is hilariously weird. Dead Pixels is a similar sort of vibe to Fresh Meat.

GooseMoose2 · 11/01/2025 20:41

Rita, it is on Netflix about a teacher in Denmark. It’s brilliant, great characters.

Turnups · 11/01/2025 20:42

Colin from Accounts!

GingerTeaLove · 11/01/2025 20:45

Ghosts on BBC iplayer and The Good Place on Netflix - both 👌

Ihatemondays1962 · 11/01/2025 21:48

This Country is great as a few others have mentioned.

Nighty Night is also good.

financialcareerstuff · 11/01/2025 22:43
