My DH works in the evenings and I'm trying to get out of the habit of scrolling through my phone to pass the time!

Can anyone recommend any funny series I can get stuck into?

Some stuff I've watched in the past and loved:

English Teacher (binged this last week and it's great)
Motherland (was very late to the party but also watched this recently! Would love to watch some more UK stuff)
What We Do In The Shadows
Stath Lets Flats
People Just Do Nothing
Schitts Creek
The Office US
Parks & Rec
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Curb Your Enthusiasm

I haven't watched much tv over the past couple of years so think I might have missed some good series. Any recs welcome!

Derry Girls and Fleabag are hilarious.

Luther on BBC1 is sprt of comedy detective series, light hearted and really good.

Recently enjoyed A Man on the Inside on Netflix, comedy drama with Ted Danson.

Er, Ludwig, not Luther. Very different vibe!

My favourite UK comedy series include Spaced, Friday Night Dinner and Phoenix Nights. Outnumbered is good if you like Motherland. Cunk on Britain is genius, as is The Day Today.

There are several similar series I've never seen that I probably should, like IT Crowd, Mighty Boosh, Black Books. I've heard they're great.

Schitt's Creek is brilliant; I also got massively hooked by Modern Family, which I'm not ashamed to admit I find totally hilarious. I'm working on my Moria and Gloria impressions 😂

We're currently rewatching Frasier and it has ( mostly) stood the test of time.

Watched Gavin and Stacey well after it fist came out- well worth watching
Also Spaced. Watched it a couple of years ago, v good. Not dated imo.
The League of Gentlemen , black Comedy!

Aussie comedy Kath and Kim is great also.

This Country. Love it. Watch it again and again.

Also love 'Avoidance' with Romesh Ranganathon. Well worth watching. But his humour is my humour, might not appeal to all

NigelHarmansNewWife · 10/01/2025 20:41

Phoenix Nights is one of those comedies you notice something more in every time you watch it.

Dinner Ladies is brilliant

Gavin and Stacey

Black Books

Spaced

We enjoyed Avoidance , it’s not laugh out loud but is entertaining .
Moone Boy has some good episodes if you can access it . I’m not a Gavin and Stacey fan , I find it a bit cringeworthy .

MaxandMoritz · 10/01/2025 20:54

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about Kath and Kim. It's hilarious.
