Suspect the husband had no say I. It. He did t seem to have much to say at all.

deeahgwitch · 23/01/2025 00:08

I wondered where they lived when the house was being done up.
There was a small shed or outside loo that could have been knocked down in the back yard.

The house near them looked perfect for their needs I thought.

crumblingschools · 23/01/2025 00:09

I agree the house near them looked ideal

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 23/01/2025 11:34

When they went back a year later I half expected to see another baby 😀
I agree they should have moved to that lovely house 1 minute away.

LillianGish · 23/01/2025 13:25

She really loved the house - the fact is they'd bought it with the intention of making those changes, but needed Kirsty to hold their hands as they were too scared to do them on their own (I identify with this and have never bought anything that needs work as a result). The first house Phil showed them would have been perfect, the other two were never going to be goers as they weren't in Whitley Bay - location, location, location (you really would think Phil would know that!). The final valuation is immaterial as I doubt they'll ever move - the Kwick Fit and busy road would put a lot of people off, but they've lived with it for more than ten years and it's obviously not an issue (presumably outweighed by having the beach at the end of the road).

Be good to revisit them in 5/10yrs

I don’t usually like a revisit but the house was just wrong

Just finished watching. Can’t believe they stayed. Great kitchen though.

Femalefootyfan · 23/01/2025 18:58

My DH called it from the start; he said they wouldn’t list because the wife wanted to stay.
It was an attractive house on the outside and the proximity to the sea was great, just right by traffic lights on a busy road with the kwik fit place right next door and an awful yard.

I also loved the first house they were shown and I really think they should’ve moved there, they were never going to move out of Whitley Bay and actually the point about teens and being the constant taxi driver was an excellent one.

I think they were going to add an en suite to the master bedroom in the loft when they eventually get around to finishing it.

MulberryPeony · 23/01/2025 20:40

I would have turned the existing kitchen into downstairs shower room (would have worked well for kids coming in off the beach) and large utility. Turned one of the downstairs rooms into a large kitchen and installed a dumb waiter for laundry. No walls down, low costs. They were never going to move.

crumblingschools · 24/01/2025 07:01

@Thmssngvwlsrnd I expected another baby too!

Turmerictolly · 24/01/2025 20:21

Was there another lounge as well as the new kitchen diner? They just showed a store room and a snug.

I think they'd just break even if they sold. I can't see a big family wanting this size of house as it doesn't have a proper garden.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/01/2025 22:36

They didn’t mention kids’ schools. No way would they move away from those, so the only possible contender was the house 1 min around the corner, which was smaller than their existing house. Not Phil’s strongest week, I think - why show them two modern houses when she hated modern, and why take them half an hour away when they had kids in school and she was running a business out of the house? I can’t imagine you make a lot of money out of bloody cloth nappies so moving 30 minutes away isn’t going to help your business model.

Mooosewoman · 26/01/2025 08:44

I’m new to watching this series. Do they get any help financially for renovations?

They seem to spend an awful lot on loving the property they are in. Who has that sort of cash? And wouldn’t they be better spending it on moving?

I’m not onboard with how this show works.

Femalefootyfan · 26/01/2025 09:53

I would imagine they remortgage or get a bank loan or something, probably remortgage with the vast amounts some spend on renovations.

Also, I think when you’re living in a house day to day, you can see what needs doing but don’t know where to start or it’s just overwhelming with layout changes etc. Someone else coming in with more vision is a huge help and clears the wood from the trees so to speak.

Kirstie lists how much moving would cost them in stamp duty etc but I agree, some of the families on this should probably move, I reckon it often comes down to who is the most stubborn and gets their way.

I think more people stay than go for various , usually practical reasons like schools, family help etc.

That said, I would have thought that once she's out of the baby stage she'd lose interest in nappies and find a different way to earn a living! In which case she might not need the storage anymore.

Mooosewoman · 26/01/2025 14:55

I think they made a mistake not moving. No matter how much money they threw at that house, the yard was never going to be decent, or the location.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/01/2025 19:51

Yes seems costly to do the work. Then move

which doesnt make financial sense

Wow! Fab dress. Not sure the groom's suit was a good colour next to it though 🤔

Doingmybest12 · 28/01/2025 06:46

It was a frustrating episode. There was so much space in the house it was easy to see how it could ve configured better or used more easily without kirsty visiting. I hoped they'd do something interesting with the yard to make it a cute play space but they didn't. They both seemed ineffectual ,especially the father . Having a tiny kitchen for all those people when there was loads of space already was ridiculous. They seemed happy with the Quick Fit. Odd episode.
