Exciting update from MNHQ! Series writer Grace Ofori-Attah will be joining us this week to answer your questions about the Playing Nice series. Post your questions for Grace on this thread.

Playing Nice is available to stream now on ITVX

We’re teaming up with ITV to bring you a live watch-along of Playing Nice, their gripping new drama that’s bound to have everyone talking. We’ll be watching right alongside you, so hop into the thread and share your thoughts, theories, and reactions in real time and be in with the chance of winning a £200 voucher for a store of your choice.

Here’s the setup (brace yourself): Set against the stunning Cornish coastline, Playing Nice follows two couples as they uncover a heart-wrenching secret - their toddlers were accidentally switched at birth. Now, they face an impossible decision: keep the children they’ve loved and raised, or reclaim their biological child.

It’s tense, emotional, and we’re betting it’ll spark some heated debate. What would you do in their shoes? Let’s unravel it together - don’t forget the popcorn.

Trigger warning: Playing Nice doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, including family separation, identity, postpartum depression, emotional trauma, and domestic abuse, which some viewers may find distressing

We watched the first episode. Decided we're not bothering with it. Too many errors. Main one being the home address of Theo being known by the other father. Surely confidentiality would have been paramount in such a case, and any contact would have been arranged by social services over a period of time.
A parent with a backbone would certainly not arranging meetups on the beach, weekend trips to Norfolk, let alone a stranger turning up off the cuff, walking into the home, demanding photos and access and giving extravagant gifts for a child that you have brought up for the past 4 years believing to be your own. You certainly wouldn't then get this stranger to babysit.

I believe that one of the mothers switched the babies in NICU.

I thought the drama would be more accurate as the families come to terms with the situation they find themselves in but it just comes across as crazy and not worth watching.

WallaceinAnderland · 06/01/2025 18:28

I don't see how the babies could have been switched. They would have had medical notes that didn't match the child. There would have been all sorts of monitoring in NICU. Ridiculous plot error.

We’ve just watched episode one and will carry on with it, want to see Miles get put in his box. I’ve got a few ideas of how it may play out so I’m interested to see how it goes. Love James Norton in it.

oddbox · 06/01/2025 20:59

Here we go! 👀

Surely, if Theos birth certificate can be changed by Miles because of DNA tests, then Maddie and Paul can do the same with Davids?

Wallasey123 · 06/01/2025 21:11

Mental state?!?! FUMING he would use PND against her like that

I knew he would when Pete referred to it in episode one.FGS Pete.

Wallasey123 · 06/01/2025 21:17

Also “Pete has anger issues.”

Pete proceeds to manhandle Miles up against the car outside the mediators office 😩

SadAboutSD · 06/01/2025 21:20

Watching 2nd ep on TV now. Finding bearded dad man quite triggering, reminds me of a friend's ex who would 'set her up' re the children in a very similar way. I guess I'm saying he's a good actor!

Jellykat · 06/01/2025 21:24

I'm presuming compensation from the hospital, will arrive too late to fund Maddy and Petes court case?

Jellykat · 06/01/2025 21:29

(ahaa question answered)

Comeonow · 06/01/2025 21:32

Dramas like this are no good for my blood pressure!

Wallasey123 · 06/01/2025 21:41

That flashback was quite upsetting. My first born was in NICU for a week years ago and I still get anxious thinking about it

Jellykat · 06/01/2025 21:45

Why is Pete lying about the name tag? Confused

All I can think is that he feels bad for Stella?
He needs to stop being such a drip!

Wallasey123 · 06/01/2025 21:50

Omg this scene with David watching as he tell Theo he’s his real dad is heartbreaking! WTAF
Miles is sick!

hugsandpugs · 06/01/2025 21:51

Hi.

Just joining in with the chat. I watched last nights episode and was gripped! Been looking forward to the new episodes tonight. Not read the book so unsure how accurate the portrayal is in the series.

Wow, how vindictive miles is! Very sneaky. This was never going to end well - he was very overbearing at the start and again I don’t understand how he would just have their address to go marching around & demanding photos etc!

Makes you feel sorry for the two boys stuck in the middle of it all though - must be so confusing for them!

From what I’ve seen so far it does give a realistic view of the utter turmoil and stress it can cause families if something like this happens.

Very good acting I think!

oddbox · 06/01/2025 21:54

Miles is an awful person! Hard to watch.

Jellykat · 06/01/2025 21:55

Keep it together Maddy!

FancyAnotherCuppa · 06/01/2025 21:56

I don’t know if I can watch anymore. My blood pressure is going through the roof.

Tonight’s episode is def better than last night’s!

SabrinaThwaite · 06/01/2025 21:58

I’m enjoying it so far (happy to suspend disbelief on a lot of points though). I’m also enjoying how the actors, particularly Pete and Maddy, are interacting with the children - they seem very natural.

And I like the Maddy character - she’s had a really tough time and she’s not taking any shit.

FancyAnotherCuppa · 06/01/2025 21:59

What is going on? I struggle to understand how this has turned into an abduction case

FancyAnotherCuppa · 06/01/2025 22:00

Another point. But Miles really is giving the MAMILs a bad name 😂
