Anyone starting this today? All 6 episodes released today.
It's with Keira Knightley, Ben Wishaw and Sarah Lancashire - spy thriller.

I've started the first episode but had to stop and may go back to it tomorrow.

Just started episode one

airingcupboards · 05/12/2024 20:15

I'm enjoying it - Keira Knightley is fabulous!

CheeriosOrFrosties · 05/12/2024 20:15

I did two episodes earlier. Loved it!

Lillixyng · 05/12/2024 21:33

Jury is still out for me after 2 episodes

mizu · 05/12/2024 21:40

Just stayed episode 2, very watchable so far!

mizu · 05/12/2024 21:40

Started !!

CurrentHun · 06/12/2024 14:06

I really loved it!! Please let them make a series 2-
Keira being torn between jobs but always being badass
tha matriarchs
the MP’s career
Sam and his magnet
the hit girls
Kai
the true life of Mrs Reed?
Hector and Sam
Dani
glimpses inside Westminster, US embassy
Loads to cover!.it was always beautifully shot and super watchable. I didn’t predict a single one of the plot twists.
I loved seeing London in it but also couldn’t work out where Keira’s house is meant to be. (And why the nanny wasn’t live in, surely you would need that?)

Sparklfairy · 06/12/2024 14:14

Finished it - reminded me a bit of a mix of Who Is Erin Carter and Killing Eve. The ending was a bit... I dunno. It didn't go the way I thought/hoped it would. I might give the whole thing a second watch now that I know how it resolves - second time around I won't be a bit ?! when the plot doesn't go how I expected!

Middlemarch123 · 06/12/2024 16:14

Going to start it tonight. Got good reviews, supposed to be tongue in cheek and light hearted. One review said something like “the more you think about it the less you’ll like it” type thing. I love Sarah Lancashire, could watch her reading the weather.

Cottonheadedninhymuggins · 06/12/2024 17:35

I am on episode 5. It’s fantastic so far. Thoroughly enjoying it. Hopefully it’s a good ending.

Sofaroller · 06/12/2024 17:36

Is it full of sex?! Might be one to watch with my mum if not!

Two sex scenes. Husband and wife and 2 men but you don’t see anything.

IcedPurple · 06/12/2024 17:43

It looks reasonably interesting but for me Keira Knightley ruins everything she's in, so I'll give it a miss.

She really winds me up too. I don't think I've liked her in anything before, but I liked her in this.

SisterMaryLuke · 06/12/2024 18:12

I thought it was passable, but a bit shit. Was expecting something higher quality, but found it a bit slapstick in parts. I didn't like Sarah Lancashire in it, whereas I normally love everything she is in. Like someone up thread said, I find Keira Knightly ruins everything she is in (she seems a lovely woman when I've seen her interviewed). I thought Ben Whishaw was very good. I wouldn't recommend it. Very much enjoying The Jackal - much better quality.

Cottonheadedninhymuggins · 06/12/2024 18:37

I thought it was great. Really enjoyed it. Hopefully a second series. Magnets ❤️

CurrentHun · 06/12/2024 18:41

I’m a total Keira Knightley convert after this! She’s genuinely brilliant in it. Whole other side to her doing fight scenes etc.
I already love Sarah Lancashire and Ben Wishaw who were both predictably excellent

PuppyMonkey · 06/12/2024 18:45

Have watched two episodes so far and I’m not finding Kiera very convincing tbh. Will stick with it and hope it improves but when you’ve watched Slow Horses it makes other programmes of a similar theme look slightly naff imo.

CurrentHun · 06/12/2024 19:13

I loved Slow Horses partly for the human side of spying that you don’t often see- like what happens when retired spies get very old and get dementia.

Black Doves is a good one for what happens when spies can’t break their cover any more because they form relationships undercover and also what happens to their work when spies/assassins catch feelings.

I think in both series there are some jokey characters that you never get to know and are one dimensional that they could do more with.
Like Slow horses has some not fleshed out stock characters like obnoxious Roddy on IT- and Black Doves has the hit women who are there mostly for the gags.

In both series having women like Catherine and Diana Taverner and Helen and Mrs Reed is so great to watch. About time to have spy series where women characters can drive the plot and are not just there to be sexy and/or be killed.

FridayNight1975 · 06/12/2024 21:57

Two episodes in and enjoying it so far.

I’m yet to see something Ben W is in that I don’t like.

London looks great and my husband got all excited because he goes to the guitar shop on Ep 1 all the time.

RedRiverShore5 · 06/12/2024 22:24

I've watched 2 episodes, it's ok, it's no Slow Horses or Jackal, I will probably watch the rest though to see how it ends but I could just skip to the end.

Fairyliz · 06/12/2024 22:58

I’ve watched two episodes and I’m disappointed. I thought the characters were unbelievable and it can’t decide whether it’s a spy thriller or a comedy caper.
Yes we know Ben W’s character is gay we don’t really need to see a gratuitous sex scene.
Even Sarah L who is normally brilliant is totally disappointing.
Its a no from me.

StrikeForever · 07/12/2024 00:13

I’ve just finished episode 3 and I’m loving it so far. The cinematography is gorgeous isn’t it and I love Sam.

I agree with all this, except I just couldn’t get into Slow Horses and I really wanted to like it!

MistletoeRegrets · 07/12/2024 01:55

Pile of shite.

Lord knows why I sat up until 1.45 in the morning to watch all six episodes …
