Anyone starting this today? All 6 episodes released today.
It's with Keira Knightley, Ben Wishaw and Sarah Lancashire - spy thriller.

I've started the first episode but had to stop and may go back to it tomorrow.

OP posts:

On ep2 - very James Bond-ish

Shame they fucked up the sound. (Inside the cars.)

Oooh, thank you, I am clearly not spy material myself, not noticing that she noticed the smoke … or recognising the nanny on Reed’s sofa!

I thought that the step sister story was a cover and that she had spent 10 years in prison, hence the not taking the scholarship and the missing 10 years ‘travelling’.

Wow that didn't occur to me at all. I thought she and the step-sister had conspired together, or KK had done the murder and shifted blame to her step-sister. Though the second option wouldn't make sense, with KK only choosing to come home as the step-sister was released from prison.

I think you're right, there is no step-sister.

OnLockdown · 09/12/2024 20:38

I didn't like this, although I still ended up watching it all. It was full of caricatures and there was a ridiculous number of murders but it wasn't quite tongue in cheek enough in the way that a Guy Richie series is for example.

Bixterret · 09/12/2024 20:48

A bit of Peaky blinders at times.

Whole thing is mad, but gotta watch it to the end.

Thought it was great and a great performance from KK but BW can’t hold a gun properly to save his life. He’s miscast in this.

I didn't know who he was before this but I loved him! Best person in it imo!
He was a great geeky cool!

Nettleskeins · 09/12/2024 21:02

I enjoyed it better when I decided it was satire. Otherwise it was glorified violence, and woke story lines. I thought the plot twists brilliant though, the Irish assassin hilarious and Sarah Lancashire's character very subtly drawn. At one point I thought perhaps she was Mrs Clarke. Keira Knightly as mother was so so irritating. And the snow! What nonsense put there for American audiences.
Loved the witty repartee when it wasn't being sentimental.

He’s Q in the latest Bond films.

I saw him in Waiting for Godot last month - he made me cry. Stunning performance.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 09/12/2024 21:15

Every time BW opened his mouth, all I could “see” was Paddington. Which made things a bit weird …

SundayDread · 09/12/2024 21:29

My main complaint was they didn’t have a good dupe for number 10. Looked wrong.

BurntBroccoli · 09/12/2024 21:37

@ThatIsNotMyNameSoWhyAreYouCallingMeThat
Ah I might watch James Bond now - haven't seen any of the new ones 😊

the80sweregreat · 10/12/2024 05:25

It's an enjoyable romp, even if it's a bit confusing at times and far fetched and all the rest of it. Love the two girl assassins!
Reminded me of killing Eve a bit as well

CurrentHun · 10/12/2024 07:19

Wow OK.. the woman on the sofa on Xmas day is the Nanny so she works for Mrs Reed? See this is why I would be a crap spy IRL. Not observant enough

CurrentHun · 10/12/2024 07:20

KK would make a great Bond now you say it

MistletoeRegrets · 10/12/2024 07:25

Indeed …

To be fair, I think we only saw her face for more than one second on one scene leaving the house and putting a beanie on.

PixelatedLunchbox · 10/12/2024 08:33

I'm enjoying it but get annoyed when things don't make sense -- she guns someone down on a street in London and there are no people around wondering what's going on, not even a twitching curtain? A guy blows someone's brains out in a restaurant, walks casually to his car, sits there, makes a phone call and no one comes out of the restaurant in all that time, etc.

Yes the killer girls are brilliant characters Grin

the80sweregreat · 10/12/2024 09:39

I like the Irish assassin lady.
She has a fantastic accent

I may have commented on that too.

And how easy it is to park wherever you want in the busiest parts of London when you’re on a closed film set!

It looks reasonably interesting but for me Keira Knightley ruins everything she's in, so I'll give it a miss.

I find this, too, and having seen a trailer find her just as ruinous in this, but I'll be giving it a go over Xmas.
