@Shellingbynight fireworks are for Diwali.

Yes. They were. Interesting the festival wasn't even mentioned on EE, considering the Panesars are a Sikh family, which is one of the religions that celebrate Diwali!

I also wondered why no-one in the Panesar family mentioned Diwali, massive oversight!!

Also I hope Rocky and Kathy end up together. Jean treats him like he’s something she’s stepped on. I think she’s quite grasping and selfish. Her whole anger about the Maya/money issue was that she thought he should have been giving the extra to the Slater family pot instead. They are not his family! Assuming he pays his way any extra money he gets from working his arse off doing overtime is his ffs. No gratitude for the free holiday. I’m sure she’ll also blame him when her pension windfall turns out to be a scam.

Shellingbynight · 01/11/2024 08:28

Our fireworks were unlikely to be Diwali - but yes very likely in London. The episode was completely focussed on Halloween, but it would have been a natural thing for Suki to mention to Nish.

Then again there was a lot of odd plotting with the police believing Nish's story. I'm still struggling with how it supposedly worked out logistically.

At least Sharon came out of the plot cupboard.

the80sweregreat · 01/11/2024 08:33

Agree about Jean
She is a total hypocrite and once spent all of Harvey's money on a wedding that didn't happen once !
( I know she has MH issues , but she is unreasonable about the Maya situation)

Rocky and Kathy did end up together. Married even I think. Do you mean Harvey and Kathy?

I found that bit particularly odd: Sharon sat in the caff all dolled up alone. Then she says Albie was feeling better so he's gone for a Halloween sleepover?!? As if ffs. He's just been so unwell that Sharon couldn't leave the house, but can now go stay overnight with someone else 🙄🤦‍♀️😐

Shellingbynight · 01/11/2024 08:49

I didn't think Jean was unreasonable about Maya. Harvey lied to her. Repeatedly. If he wanted to give Maya money he should have been honest about it. Harvey tries to come across as a nice guy but is weak and lacks integrity. Same with the Kathy incident - he talks the talk being honest with Jean, but backtracks. (Can you tell I am not a Harvey fan? 😆)

the80sweregreat · 01/11/2024 08:56

Harvey was scared of Jeans reaction to Maya. He didn't handle it well , but we all make mistakes! Was a silly story anyway although Harvey was right to feel guilty about it I suppose, but Jean does treat him like dirt

the80sweregreat · 01/11/2024 08:57

Sharon didn't say where this sleepover was did she ? Staying with a friend who doesn't live on the square is a rare thing !

Anyonecanfallinlove · 01/11/2024 09:15

I was surprised Albie went for a sleepover on halloween considering the kidnap story was last halloween/fireworks. Also is he 4 or 5? It just seems really young to be having sleepovers, I don't know any who had sleepovers at that age unless it was with family. They had to make some excuse although it would have been easier to say Albie was with Phil, sometimes they make it more complicated than it needs to be.
I'm guessing the minute mart fire is soon and it may have something to do with Nish confessing to killing Keanu

Shellingbynight · 01/11/2024 09:18

Harvey doesn't like taking responsibility for his own actions though - he has always buried his head in the sand and hoped it will all go away. He's well characterised but he never learns! Jean can't trust him, she should dump him (then he could go and lie to Kathy instead 😆)

Meredusoleil · 01/11/2024 09:25

Agree about Harvey not being honest about Maya, but also Jean is really not treating him well now. He tried to make amends with the holiday. They should just split up! I think he is better suited to Kathy anyway.

Again, where is Phil?!?

the80sweregreat · 01/11/2024 09:38

Yes, saying that Albie was with Phil is a much better plot device especially now he knows he is his real dad and Phil lives alone so has room for his many children to sleepover.
I was wondering where Kim's two were last night and how Nugget and Avida are allowed up the bar in a pub underage
Elaine has some lax rules. You can lose your licence for less , but doesn't bother them it seems.
We haven't seen Mica or Pearl for ages
Does Pearl still go to the private school ? Kim might be hit by the intended VAT rises !! lol

Kim’s two I assume were being babysat by Denzil or Chelsea. I agree though, the younger children you never see unless it’s parents calling them for school or other things. Kim and Howie go out to a midweek Halloween party and get drunk rather than being shown taking the kids trick or treating.

As far as I recall it you can allow children up to age of 16 I think in a pub if an adult is with them and they’re not drinking alcohol. Their mum was with them.

NeighbourHitMyCar · 01/11/2024 09:56

I was really disappointed by the end and Nish just handing himself in. For a big billed villain I'd expected more of a blow out exit

It felt a bit like when kheerat left and just sort of disappeared and was such a huge charachter

Although I really hope this is the end of 'the 6' storyline and Suki just bloody tells Eve everything and why she can't marry her so this doesn't become another convoluted plot!

And yes, Sharon's wig was super distracting and awful !

Anyonecanfallinlove · 01/11/2024 09:59

I couldn't understand the opening scene of the random trick or treaters. There's absolutely enough kids already cast, why didn't they show them? It was just all bizarre to me

Shellingbynight · 01/11/2024 10:03

Suki really needs to tell Eve about the Six. Everyonelse on the Square knows! I don't see the wedding as that big an issue though, as surely Suki just needs to postpone till Nish dies, which can't be far away (can it??)

I had forgotten about the Minute Mart fire. Could be Bernie, if she buys the story about Nish killing Ken?

the80sweregreat · 01/11/2024 10:04

We had to meet up in a pub before a wedding once and my eldest was around 14 or 15
He went to stand at the bar with my husband to help with the drinks tray and was told to move away from the bar rather quickly by the manager ! He wasn't in the way , she just said he wasn't 18 and couldn't stand there.
This was back in 06 or something like that , but it sticks in my mind as we didn't think he was doing anything wrong and wasn't having any alcohol. She was giving us daggers and we were only in there for a short time for one drink and meet the others!

I think laws tightened up in later years but as far as I recall from being a teenager (and getting served all the time underage!) when I was out with parents there was some rule about if you were 16 or under you could be in the pub, just not drinking alcohol. This was in the mid to late 80s.

Anyway, I digress. What on earth is happening with the six as per end of last night’s episode? And would Nish in real life allow himself to take the rap. I kept on thinking, he’ll shop one of the Six. It all just seemed a bit convenient with him going off with the police.

Eastie77Returns · 01/11/2024 11:16

Agree Albie is too young to be at a sleepover especially as he’s apparently just recovered from a mystery illness that kept Sharon in the house with him for days! Meanwhile Phil sits alone in his big house with only Raymond for occasional company.

The kiddies in the cupboard is ridiculous. Stacey is always in the pub or roaming the square at all hours. Makes me laugh that Kat was screaming that’s she a great muvver while necking wine with Alfie in the pub in the evening. Who is looking after the twins? The ones terrorised by their violent brother who is only next door. She has cut off her family so where has she found a babysitter for them. With ‘the social’ on her case you’d think she’d be more cautious.

the80sweregreat · 01/11/2024 11:26

They always leave their babies / children with anyone or it's not mentioned at all. At least Sharon said that Albie was somewhere, which is an improvement I suppose ( even if it didn't make any sense)

I was thinking seeing Kat going mental last night (and over the past week) it’s been the first times recently she’s been allowed to act, even if it does consist of yelling and being off her head at Jean/Alfie/Stacey. Surely Kat should realise if she parented Tommy better he wouldn’t be such a little toe rag.

Parenting is so lax in the square so it wouldn’t surprise me that Lily was looking after Stacey’s children despite not being the right age to do this.

the80sweregreat · 01/11/2024 11:44

I guess that Stacey thinks ' Lily has Charli now , so she can have the others too' !
Martin is never seen with his daughter , too busy saving his ex and the market to look after Hope.
